Use

Oil of Love is great for adding some flavour to oral sex and it helps my hands to slide across my partner's skin more easily when I use them at the same time. If you don't enjoy the natural flavour of your partner, Oil of Love will cover it up, and even if you do it can be a nice change of pace. It can also be used on the nipples or any erogenous zones where you want to be licked.

It could be used for massages or hand jobs but there are other, more slippery products that would work better for those things. It wouldn't be very effective as a lube because of the texture. The ingredients include glycerin and sucrose so if you are prone to yeast infections you will probably want to avoid using this product near your vagina.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Although it is called an oil, this is a water-based product and doesn't have a greasy, oily feel to it. It is fairly thick and pours out of the bottle slowly. If you pour it onto the skin it will drip down, but if you spread it out a little it will stay in place. It feels syrupy when first applied and I was worried it would get stickier over time but it actually got a bit thinner and slipperier- probably because the glycerin in the product attracts moisture from the air. It allows hands to slide across skin a little more easily, but doesn't seem to reduce the amount of friction felt.

Taste / Aroma

The Original flavour is described as "Chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon." Right out of the bottle, the chocolate scent is the strongest and the taste is a combination of all three flavours. I also taste hints of coconut and alcohol. As it's rubbed into the skin the cinnamon scent and flavour become stronger until they starts to overpower the sweetness. I can see this being a love it or hate it flavour, but my partner and I both enjoyed it. I'm not a big fan of the fruity flavours that so many products have, so this is a nice change. I work at a coffeehouse and it reminds me of the Brown Sugar Cinnamon or Chai Spice syrups we use; sweet with an exotic kick.

Performance

The thicker texture helps it to stick around longer during oral sex than more runny flavoured lubes I've used did. I found that a nickel sized amount was enough for a blowjob. When rubbed on the skin it stays slippery for at least 15 minutes. It feels heavy so if you're using it on larger areas of the body you will want to wash it off afterward. When it's just put on small areas and licked off it leaves behind a very light residue and scent that doesn't bother me, but some people might still feel the need to wash up. It comes off easily with water.

Packaging

The packaging I received is different from the picture on the product page and what was described in other reviews. The cork stopper has been replaced with a black, plastic, screw-on cap which stops it from leaking and makes it much more suitable for travel. I was really happy to discover that since I had worried that the cork might leak in my bag on the way to my partner's house. Keeping it stored in the tin gives an extra level of protection so that even if the cap did leak for some reason it won't get all over the place.

The clear glass bottle has an attractive black and gold label with a floral design and is printed with the words Oil of Love, Kama Sutra and the flavour you chose. The tin is covered with a patterned green label and has a corrugated card lining which helps to protect the bottle. Ingredients and product information are on the back of the tin, so the bottle itself is very simple. The packaging is classy looking and would make a good gift. It's a lot more discreet than this, for example, but leaving an interesting looking tin or a bottle of bright green liquid on your dresser might draw attention, and the fact that it's called Kama Sutra Oil of Love makes it obvious that this product has a sexual use.
    • Does not leak
    • Travel friendly
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

The package claims it will "gently warm the skin" and I was glad to find that the effect really is gentle. I'm very sensitive and I've avoided all warming and cooling products after a terrible experience with a lube. The Oil of Love didn't irritate me at all. Blowing on the skin can increase the warming, but it still doesn't get very hot. People who prefer a strong warming sensation should look elsewhere.

Follow-up commentary
When I first reviewed Oil of Love, I had only used it as a body topping or oral sex aid. The thick, syrupy texture didn't feel like it would work well for a massage, and wasn't appealing to have spread all over my back.

Since then, I have actually tried using it for massage when I ran out of my regular massage oil. The Oil of Love performed much better than I expected. I thought it would become thicker or more sticky, but it actually became thinner and more slippery when spread in a thin layer across a large area of skin. It didn't dry up quickly, and it absorbed into the skin pretty well without leaving much residue behind.

This still wouldn't be my first choice for a massage oil. It's more expensive than many massage oils, and unless you're interested in licking your partners back (I'm not) the flavour is wasted. It also doesn't leave my skin feeling as nice as massage oil would. But if you're looking for one product that can be used as both a massage oil and body topping, Oil of Love is a great choice.
