Afterglow review

The warm oil felt great on my skin. It's not too hot, just warm enough to make your skin tingle with excitement. I found the candle to be really relaxing when poured on my back. The oil makes the skin very moist and slippery…

I was overjoyed to get the Afterglow candle by Jimmyjane because I am a fan of aromatherapy candles and believe that they can light the mood, so to speak. I think the invention of having a candle that melts into massage oil is genius! When I received my candle, I was a little upset at first because it was a slight mess. However, this is typical and the candle includes a message in its box saying to expect this due to the shipping and the temperatures. It definitely doesn't ruin the products ability to function like it should. So I cleaned the candle up with a towel and let it sit and cool to room temperature.

Honestly, I'm not too fond of the scent, Pink Lotus. It's not terrible, but I guess it's not my cup of tea, however, it is bearable. Pink Lotus is a flowery type of scent, being that it is a flower. If you enjoy flowery scents, then you would love it. The smell is also very carrying, meaning you can smell it without it even being burnt. Once it is burned and melting the smell gets stronger, although not too overpowering. The candle is unlike those normal candles. At room temperature, it is solid yet soft. If you rub your finger on it, your finger will pick up an oily, greasy feel to it. Obviously, it shouldn't matter really what it feels like at room temperature but I just want to give everyone an idea of what this candle is like. What matters is that it can burn like a candle, and melt as an oil.

My partner and I lit the Afterglow candle during our foreplay session, towards the main event we blew it out and took turns pouring a little of the oil on each other. The warm oil felt great on my skin. It's not too hot, just warm enough to make your skin tingle with excitement. I found the candle to be really relaxing when poured on my back. The oil makes the skin very moist and slippery so that the fingers of the person who is doing the massage can glide over the skin easily without any friction; thus creating a very delightful experience for both partners.

I also would like to mention that the Afterglow candle conveniently comes with a box of matches. This is a great purchase if you are looking for a Massage oil candle. The candle comes in 3 different scents, fig leaf, bourbon, and pink lotus. Out of five stars, I give this four.

The only other massage candle I tried left a strange almost waxy residue after the oil was rubbed into my skin. What's your experience with this oil?

I was wondering, do you think the candle's massage oil would be safe if it got into hotter areas? I mean, could you safely use this as a foreplay massage oil AND a sexual lubricant if you worked up to that? Without having to go wash your hands and such.

No, I would not recommend this as a sexual lubricant.

  • Jimmy Jane Afterglow candles- Best Scent?
    • what's the best Jimmy Jane afterglow scent? or the better ones?
    • Well, first off, there are lots of threads on the scent of these candles already. But ignoring that, I think it's really up to your preference in smell.

In my experience, all the scents are fairly high quality, so it just depends on what you like. I personally favor the Dark Vanilla and Bourbon scents. My good friend prefers the Water Cucumber, while it is totally not for me. Some people love the Truffle Gardenia, but it's comparatively very floral. I would really like to try the Vetiver Honey in the ember series.

My recommendation would be to go with what is most similar to your usual favorite scent. Sweet edibles? Masculine spices? Flowers? Citrus? Or you could always try the sampler. More expensive but awesome :-)

Thank you for replying! I have read quite a few posts on the scents, but I'm still indecisive.

The special edition scents look tempting, but I would also like to make sure I purchase something both my partner and I would like. Also I kind of wanted to get a general sense of what is most widely liked. Which I feel I could have gotten with a poll, but unfortunately I am not sure how to do that. I did see a post explaining that to post a poll it the option is next to the post discussion option, but I have seen no such poll option.

  • Can you describe the scents of the Afterglow massage candles from Jimmyjane?
    • If your own words and from your own personal experience can you please describe what the different scents are like? I'm having trouble deciding on which ones to get. Thanks! =]
    • I did a review on the Afterglow Sampler set, but this is what I have with the scents.

Cucumber Water smells like a crisp, clear, watered down version of a cucumber melon scent, and is quite possibly my favorite. Pink Lotus has a decidedly floral scent to it; not overpowering but definitely there. It's hard to pinpoint anything more specific than "floral" for me on that one. Truffle + Gardenia (the special edition one, also available as a regular Ember candle) is also hard for me to pinpoint. It smells like an earthy floral to me, a more involved scent. Bourbon smells sweet to me, almost like molasses or something else I'd bake with. Dark Vanilla still smells like a generic "vanilla cookie" scent to me. And Grapefruit. To me, there's a hint of citrus and a whole lot more of something I can't put my finger on. When I first smelled it I thought back to the Habanero + Grapefruit mini Ember I have, only this is a little less spicy to the nose. JJ claims notes of grapefruit, bell peppers, and mandarin for this one.
    • Thanks! I think the ones I want to try most are Dark Vanilla, Cucumber Water, and the Truffle Gardenia... and the Bourbon. Jeez I want to smell them all. Choosing which to buy online is difficult but I'm sure whichever one I choose I'll love it anyway. =]

  • Afterglow Packaging
    • I was just curious - Jimmyjane has changed the style of the Afterglow candle to the "pour spout" that's rocked by the Ember. Is EF still selling the old style with the brush as indicated by the picture?

FYI I'm in favor of the pour divot format!
    • This is something I'd like to know, too. *Bump*
    • The new version features a spout for easy pouring and that is what currently available on EF.
