I love, love, love the Hitachi. It was the first toy to make me have a clitoral orgasm and remains my favorite after owning one for about 6 months now. The vibrations are incredibly tense and great for those with "clits o'steel" but can be dulled with fabric or another toy for those who are a bit more sensitive.

Use

Well, initially this was marketed to get rid of all of that tension in muscles through direct stimulation rather than many happy orgasms, both of which is handles beautifully. Of course, with that shape and incredible power how could someone resist a bit of off label use?

This is not for those with a very sensitive clit. Unless you move it far, far away. Like under the mattress far away. Seriously, if you're extra sensitive you probably do not want this directly against you, I would recommend getting a blanket, pillow, a Liberator product, or finding a toy that transfers vibrations well if you need to have this one.

For those, like myself, who possess a clit o'steel or greater, this one might finally do it for you.

Material / Texture

Hitachi's body is non-porous, phalate-free, hard plastic. It does nothing, although if you get lube on the smooth plastic the wand will become more slippery.

The head of the wand is rather bumpy but I don't find them intensely so. Of course, like most toys, what's great for me may be awful for someone else. While I don't find it to be that much, someone else with a extremely sensitive clit may find it to be akin to rubbing sandpaper on themselves. I highly doubt, though, for most people it will be too much texture. The texture is probably adding a bit of extra stimulation but when using this on high, against your skin, I don't know how much anyone would actually be noticing the texture. With that being said, making this totally smooth would not work for me at all. The head is rubberized and has some squishiness to it.

Design / Shape / Size

Prior to purchasing my own Hitachi I had seen it in action in movies but I had never actually saw one in real life. I was surprised at the massive size. Granted, you aren't actually [italics|using] most of the size but it is still rather imposing, I would imagine even more so to a sex toy newcomer. Holding it for a bit is definitely not my favorite part of using it.

The head is also quite large and has nearly a 2 1/2" diameter. I, personally, enjoy the large head and all of the surface area it is able to cover.

You can somewhat discreetly travel with this; it is, after all, a massager. Given its large size it will take up more room in your bags than most other toys. The same goes with storing this wand but, again, its marketed purpose is for muscle relaxation.

Functions / Performance / Controls

When using the Hitachi it feels as though the vibrations are EVERYWHERE. You can easily feel them equally throughout the tennis ball-sized head. Hitachi has opted to give us two options, too high and even higher. I'm a fan of "even higher" if you want to be honest. There is a switch that flips between the two and when left in the middle the wand is in the off position.

As far as noise goes, nothing short of a jackhammer outside of your window is going to drown this out. Even then the wand might put up a bit of a fight. Your entire house will probably know when you're using it. I often turn the fan and television on when I am using it and even under a blanket it's still obnoxiously loud.

I doubt that I need to say it but just to be sure, this plugs in, don't take into the hot tub, bathtub, shower, etc.

Care and Maintenance

I keep my Hitachi in my trunk with my other toys. The Hitachi Magic Wand should never be left plugged in or used for more than 20-25 minutes at a time. To keep the cord from getting tangled, you can wrap it around the body of the wand.

It should never be submerged but instead just clean the head (or anything else that needs cleaned) with a damp cloth, toy wipes, or any other non-submersing cleaner.

Packaging

The wand comes in a box that markets the body massage aspects. There are pictures of people massaging various body parts and nothing indicating an alternative use for the toy. This being said, anyone with a bit of a dirty imagination or who has indulged in enough porn probably will make assumptions upon seeing the box.

Experience

I find it far easier to reach orgasm when I masturbate while lying on my stomach. I think, if you recall my review of the Wahl, that this was part of the issue with it. The Hitachi Magic Wand allows you to lie on top of the wand and grind away if you are also the type who finds it easier to orgasm this way.
Follow-up commentary
I've had the magic wand for 8 months now and every single one of those 8 months have been amazing. It's definitely my most used item and often the only thing I am using. It has held up well to my frequent sessions. And someday, when it breaks, I will definitely replace it with the same exact thing. Heck, I might order a second soon so I don't have to wait for it to arrive when the day comes.

    • I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

      Ooh, thanks! Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.

      I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

      Probably not for less than fifty dollars. A friend of mine is saving for the Sybian or The Rock Box. I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though.       U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00
