Love o' the Lazy

This is a great toy cleaner. It doesn't work as well with some toys with a velvety finish, but otherwise it cleans very well. The scent is fresh and light, definitely not overpowering. It wasn't irritating to sensitive skin, and was an ideal solution for non-waterproof toys.

extremely useful review
I was wary when my Doc Johnson Anti-bacterial Toy Cleaner|Anti bacterial toy cleaner 4 oz came in. I've been let down before by toy cleaners|Sex Toy Cleaners and Wipes; the wipes I tried before were a quick-fix at best. They left my toys still smelling, well, used, and I'm incredibly picky when it comes to the cleanliness of my toys. I refuse to put them away even slightly dirty, ever. I also had irritation issues if I just used the wipes to clean my toys. If I didn't do a real washing with soap and water after cleaning them with the wipes, I would get itching and sometimes even burning. To make a long story short, they failed miserably for me, so I wasn't sure a spray would be any better.

The first thing I did after getting my cleaner out of the packaging was to spray a little on my hand and take a sniff. It's only very lightly scented, not overpowering, which is a huge plus for an asthmatic like me! The instructions say you can spray and air dry your toys, so to test for irritation, I sprayed a little on my wrist and let it dry there. I figured if I could stand that much cleaner on my skin, the tiny amount from air drying a toy shouldn't bug me. No irritation reared its ugly head, to my surprise. Score one for the Toy Cleaner! I then sprayed clean my favorite vibrator, let it dry, then grabbed some lube and got to work. Again, no irritation!

Finally, the final test: after-play cleanup, because when I get going, I get messy! I had to spray on, wipe off, and then spray on and let dry to get it all clean, but the results were amazing. My lovely vibrator was just about as clean as if I'd taken it to the sink, and it had a nice fresh scent to it from the cleaner. Perfect!

The only problem I found with this cleaning spray is with toys with a velvety finish. For some reason, they just don't come as clean as the other toys, and I end up finishing them off (pardon the pun) with soap and water. It’s ideal for toys that aren’t waterproof so you can avoid the whole issue of getting water inside. All of my toys are smooth, so I can't say how well this does on bumpy or textured toys. Also, that bottle will last a lot longer than you'd think. Playing every day for a week has left it looking barely used. This really is a wonderful toy cleaner, especially for the price. I'll definitely be buying more of this when I run out!
Follow-up commentary
After a year of having this in my toy drawer, it is still a winner. I don't always use it; when I can, I just take my toys to the nearest sink. However, in situations where I need ninja-level discretion, it continues to shine. When my toys have to quickly clean up and disappear, I can spray and dry and go.

Because I'm no longer using it every time I clean up, I'm still on my original bottle. I'm using it an average of once a week, and still have a quarter of the bottle left. For such an inexpensive bottle, it lasts forever.

I have found that there are some materials this doesn't work as well with that weren't mentioned in the review simply because I hadn't tried them yet. It works well on smooth or mildly textured rubber toys, which was a surprise after finding that it didn't work well on rubber-coated plastic. Glass was an absolute dream.

With silicone toys the results were mixed, but the general trend was that the firmer the silicone, the better the cleaner worked. With any material, the more texture there was, the more work it took to clean, but this holds true with any method of cleaning. Since I'm not a huge fan of heavy textures, this hasn't been much of a problem for me, but it may be for others.

One thing that has kept me coming back to this toy cleaner is that I've never had any irritation from it, even when, as the instructions suggest, I forgo rinsing. As the owner of a very picky pussy, this makes or breaks a toy cleaner. I'm happy to say that this continues to make it in my book.
