Until joining the Eden community a short time ago I had never even heard of the Hitachi. I mentioned all the amazing reviews to a good friend of mine who watches a crazy amount of porn. She was shocked that I had never seen or heard of the Hitachi before because according to her they are "In tons of porn movies."
When I received this toy in the mail I got it out of the shipping box and got a good laugh at the silly photos on the box the Hitachi comes packaged in. It's packaged exclusively as a massager instead of a sex toy. There is no mention on the box or in the instructional booklet about using this toy for sexual pleasure.
I got this bad boy out of the box... it's big! The Hitachi's overall length is 12 1/2 inches long with a 9 1/2 inch handle. The soft marshmallow head is 2 inches long and 6 3/4 inches in circumference. So it's got a pretty large area that vibrates. It plugs into the wall with a 6 foot cord. No batteries so that is awesome, but the cord sometimes isn't long enough.
The Hitachi has two setting, low and high. The low setting is higher than most vibes on high and the high is ultra high. I love a good strong clitoral vibration, so This is right up my alley, but if you are not into intense vibrations this might not be the toy for you.
Not only is this a great toy for clitoral stimulation, but it's great as a back massager too. Between the Head and the handle there is a thinner blue section that has some give to it, adding some flexibility. The flexible head makes it easy to get this toy into the curves of the body and therefore giving a wonderful massage.
The handle is made of a smooth hard plastic where as a the head is a softer, slightly squishy, textured plastic. The Hitachi is not at all water friendly so be be sure to take extra care is cleaning this toy. The best option might be toy cleaning wipes if you have some. If you don't use a soap or toy cleaner and CAREFULLY rinse with warm water or wipe down with alcohol.
I think I am going to get the Pleasure Dome to put over the head of the massager. That way when I use the Hitachi for clitoral stimulation there is a protective cover over the actual toy. It will make cleanup so much easier and less nerve wracking. I might even try a couple of the other attachments.

I still love my Hitachi, but I have to say that once I got the Inspire, I have not used the Hitachi as much. The Inspire is just so much smaller and is a little more customizable. But that being said... the Hitachi will always have a place in my toy box.

I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

Dr- the noise doesn't bother me at all. It's so powerful and wonderful the noise don't matter. Cord can get into the way.. but again it's worth it with this toy.
