Brown Sugar

I don't think that I would try this scrub again based on the strong lingering smell and the oils not absorbing into my skin which left a residue. Their white sugar scrub I didn't have this issue with so I think I will stick to that one!

Use

I found that this sugar scrub was coarser than the other sugar scrub that Cake makes but I fell in love with it for that reason. You don't need to use very much to end up with freshly buffed, soft and silky skin. I used this all over my body externally, both in the bath and in the shower with a loofah and it left my skin so soft. The oils in it didn't seem to sink into my skin as much as I had hoped, instead the oils kind of stayed on the surface but didn't cause any irritation whatsoever and didn't dry my skin out. A little goes a long way with this scrub so you will have it for a long time! When I really want to buff my dry skin away, I reach for this. When I want something a little more gentle and less coarse, I reach for the white sugar scrub that Cake makes. Cake has become one of my favorite bath and beauty lines and this scrub is a must have for anyone with Keratosis Pilaris or stubborn dry skin.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The sugar makes this scrub thick but what I noticed over time is that the oil will rise and sit on the surface. A good stir with your finger will even this back out and make the mixture consistant again. The sugar is very coarse but because of that it works amazingly to exfoliate and to buff away dry skin!

Taste / Aroma

The smell reminded me of an Orange Creamsicle icecream and was actually a litle too strong for my tastes. I could still smell it on my skin after I had dried off which meant I didn't bother to continue with my daily routine of perfume after my shower. Definitely not an unpleasant smell but you'll have to love it as it will stay with you all day and I don't recommend adding a different scent on top of it. This product is not edible.

Performance

Overall it performed well with the loofah at buffing dead, dry skin away but I didn't find that the oils in this scrub left my skin feeling moisturized or any softer. In fact, I feel like the oils just sat on the surface of my skin and never fully absorbed. I do have sensitive, dry skin which usually will drink up anything that is supposed to provide moisture but unfortunately this did not perform that way at all for me.

Packaging

I love the large size tub that this comes in, if you fall in love with this product you will get a lot of use out of it for a very long time! The amount in the jar is very generous since only a little bit of product is needed once you spread it around by buffing with a loofah to increase the exfoliation. The packaging is nice enough that it could sit on a shelf and not have to be hidden when you have company over.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Recyclable
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

Ingredients listed are as follows:
Turbinado (Sugar)
Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil
Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil
Olea europaea (Olive) fruit oil
Theo broma cacao (Cocoa) butter
Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol (and) Sorbic Acid
Fragrance (Parfum), BHT

My skin can be temperamental with scented products but I had no issue with this scrub. I just wish that the oils had absorbed and moisturized my skin instead of sitting on the surface and feeling heavy and greasy.

Personal comments

Overall, I did love how coarse the sugar was and how well it worked to buff away dead skin when I used it with the loofah. I feel like the white sugar scrub is a lot more gentle, which is nice but doesn't work as well to get my skin feeling smooth. I just wish that the oils would have absorbed into my skin instead of feeling like I had to use soap to wash them away to get rid of the heavy and greasy feeling.
