Delicious, Luxe Candle from Jimmy Jane

C'mon Baby Light My Fire...This luxurious massage candle sets the mood, fills the air with a delicious, expensive-smelling scent, and provides a warm and silky liquid to make your massages glide. Another winner from Jimmy Jane.
Published: November 30, 2010
Pros:
Yummy, long-lasting scent, silky and absorbs into skin a bit more than pure oil.
Cons:
Scent may be too strong for those who prefer softer smells.

Use

This luxurious soy wax candle is a smaller version of the Jimmy Jane Ember candle that I also had the pleasure of reviewing. It's about half the size of the Ember candle and does not come with a lid.

The liquefied soy wax will get rather warm, but will not get hot enough to burn your skin. You can drip it all over your partner and then use it to deliver a nicely-scented massage.

I would never put anything highly-scented in my nether regions, but it works well on the rest of the body, including breasts, without irritating the skin. Those with sensitive or allergic skin might want to stay away from any scented product, however.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The thin, silky wax has a great texture for giving massage. It's closer to an oil than a body lotion, and absorbs into the skin a little more than an oil, but lasts much longer than a body cream.

The soy wax is easy to pour because there's a subtle spout on one side of the square container--don't forget to extinguish the flame before pouring! You should wait until the entire surface is liquefied so that the candle wears easily.

Taste / Aroma

I was a little skeptical when I saw the "grapefruit" scent, as this smell can often go wrong and just smell like chemicals. However, it smells really lovely and the scent has more in common with a high-end perfume than a bath & body works spritz. The citrusy scent is enhanced by notes of warm vanilla and bergamot and is pleasantly complex.

It does have a rather strong scent, which I appreciate, but others might not. When it's been burning for 15-20 minutes, the smell envelops the room, setting the mood, and it lingers on your body like a fine perfume after you've received a massage with it.
    • Smells good

Performance

I like the warmth when it first drops on your skin, and I love how it smells, both when it's still in the candle and afterward. It offers a pretty great massage product as well, and I appreciate that it absorbs into the skin a little more quickly than oil because it makes it feel less messy. It still provides plenty of glide for a nice massage. I don't feel it needs to be washed off with soap and water, so that's a major plus. It will also leave you nicely scented, which I appreciate.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural
    • Long lasting

Packaging

It comes in attractive packaging, but nothing you would want to keep, unlike the more expensive Ember candle. I think that it would make a lovely gift--especially if paired with coupons redeemable for massages!
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

I really enjoyed the warm, silky lotion being poured on my body, and I love the scent so much I would wear it as perfume.

  • Jimmy Jane Afterglow candles- Best Scent?
    • what's the best Jimmy Jane afterglow scent? or the better ones?
    • Well, first off, there are lots of threads on the scent of these candles already. But ignoring that, I think it's really up to your preference in smell.

In my experience, all the scents are fairly high quality, so it just depends on what you like. I personally favor the Dark Vanilla and Bourbon scents. My good friend prefers the Water Cucumber, while it is totally not for me. Some people love the Truffle Gardenia, but it's comparatively very floral. I would really like to try the Vetiver Honey in the ember series.

My recommendation would be to go with what is most similar to your usual favorite scent. Sweet edibles? Masculine spices? Flowers? Citrus? Or you could always try the sampler. More expensive but awesome :-)

Thank you for replying! I have read quite a few posts on the scents, but I'm still indecisive.

The special edition scents look tempting, but I would also like to make sure I purchase something both my partner and I would like. Also I kind of wanted to get a general sense of what is most widely liked. Which I feel I could have gotten with a poll, but unfortunately I am not sure how to do that. I did see a post explaining that to post a poll it the option is next to the post discussion option, but I have seen no such poll option.

  • Can you describe the scents of the Afterglow massage candles from Jimmyjane?
    • If your own words and from your own personal experience can you please describe what the different scents are like? I'm having trouble deciding on which ones to get. Thanks! =]
    • I did a review on the Afterglow Sampler set, but this is what I have with the scents.

Cucumber Water smells like a crisp, clear, watered down version of a cucumber melon scent, and is quite possibly my favorite. Pink Lotus has a decidedly floral scent to it; not overpowering but definitely there. It's hard to pinpoint anything more specific than "floral" for me on that one. Truffle + Gardenia (the special edition one, also available as a regular Ember candle) is also hard for me to pinpoint. It smells like an earthy floral to me, a more involved scent. Bourbon smells sweet to me, almost like molasses or something else I'd bake with. Dark Vanilla still smells like a generic "vanilla cookie" scent to me. And Grapefruit. To me, there's a hint of citrus and a whole lot more of something I can't put my finger on. When I first smelled it I thought back to the Habanero + Grapefruit mini Ember I have, only this is a little less spicy to the nose. JJ claims notes of grapefruit, bell peppers, and mandarin for this one.
    • Thanks! I think the ones I want to try most are Dark Vanilla, Cucumber Water, and the Truffle Gardenia... and the Bourbon. Jeez I want to smell them all. Choosing which to buy online is difficult but I'm sure whichever one I choose I'll love it anyway. =]

  • Afterglow Packaging
    • I was just curious - Jimmyjane has changed the style of the Afterglow candle to the "pour spout" that's rocked by the Ember. Is EF still selling the old style with the brush as indicated by the picture?

FYI I'm in favor of the pour divot format!
    • This is something I'd like to know, too. *Bump*
    • The new version features a spout for easy pouring and that is what currently available on EF.
