Gives you confidence that it has kills bacteria and leaves a pleasant scent.
I'm a girl that just isn't satisfied with the old soap and water method. I am just accustomed to the extra feeling of cleanliness a toy cleaner gives me. The anti-bacterial properties make me even more confident.Published: February 22, 2011
Pros:
mild scent, anti-bacterial
Cons:
do we need something besides soap and water really?
I ordered the 4oz. size spray bottle. I was nervous to use it because it says "clean fresh fragrance". I am typically very sensitive to any fragrance, both physically and I dislike most fragrances. The fragrance is very mild and pleasant. I had no bad reactions or sensitivity to it.
The directions on the bottle say to spray it on and then wipe it off. The description here on EF say to rinse it after. I would personally let it sit for a bit after spraying. I just don't feel the anti-bacterial properties would work if immediately wiped off. I would also recommend rinsing it off after just in case you have any chemical sensitivity to the spray. I always prefer to also rinse well before using cleaner to wash off any bodily fluids.
Keep in mind that even with an anti-bacterial cleaner, any porous material can not be thoroughly sanitized. So unless it's silicone or a hard material like glass, condoms or toy covers should always be used when sharing. Which is good practice in general.
The bottle seems like it would last a long time. It did not seem to leave any residue or taste on the toys. Yes, we licked a vibrator to test that out.
This cleaner worked well and left me feeling confident in the cleanliness and freshness of my toys. I was pleasantly surprised that I did not have any sensitivity to it. I am highly sensitive to anything with a fragrance. The fragrance was gentle and mild, not at all overpowering.
I want to point out that it does not contain Nonoxynol 9. This is a plus. Nonoxynol 9 has been shown to increase the risk of HIV.
Always clean your toys before and after each use. Clean new toys before using. Play safe when sharing toys.

Follow-up commentary
25 days after original review
I have actually switched to using this cleaner exclusively. I had some left in a bottle of a different brand, but haven't gone back to it.
My method is still: rinse, spray, wait, wipe off, and rinse again. That is just what works for me.
I have always cleaned my toys after use. I will admit that as long as they have been properly stored I was never good about cleaning before use. My confidence in this product has turned me around on that. I clean toys both before and after, now.
I plan on sticking with this one.

What does before & after do.. before you use it?
-
Is it both a lubricant and a sanitizer? how does that work?
-
It is not a lubricant but merely cleans the toys. When the toy is sitting around, it gathers fungal spores, dust, and bacteria.
-
Before you use it it sits there and looks pretty :P
In theory you're supposed to use it before you use your toys and then after you use your toys to ensure optimal cleanness. At least according to the bottle.

Before & After Toy Cleaner...
-
This one got lots of great reviews, but I've got a couple of questions for all you reviewers who use this. The description says you have to "spray, wipe, then rinse" but most of the reviews say no rinsing required. Can you guys confirm there's no residue if you don't rinse? One review mentioned it didn't clean the crevices of textured toys well. Anyone else have that experience? Would you say it replaces the soap & water routine completely?
-
Nah, it doesn't replace soap and water, in my opinion. It may be because I've used soap and water for so long, but I just don't see the benefit to spraying something and then wiping it off. I find the cleaner hard to wipe off on toys w/ texture, and maybe I'm nuts, but then I don't feel like a toy is really clean. It would do in a pinch, but I don't mind soap and water so that's what I go for 90% of the time.
-
I like the the idea of toy cleaner but I always wondered what exactly you wipe down with? What's a good cloth for that?

Nonoxynol 9 does not increase the risk of HIV.It was developed only as a spermicide. The study puts in question if it has an effect on killing the virus due to the fact that those who used it could have put themselves at a higher risk for contracting it, not that the chemical promotes it.
I will find a liink for a study and info when i am feeling better. thanks
Thanks for the review.
the reason many people advocate against nonoxynol 9 is because it has been known to cause irritated tissue and put people more at risk for HIV and other stds.
link
That is true, but the studies showed that it is an extremely heavy dose to create the irritation. This is per the CDC
The results show in the other countries are also shown to be skewed. I would sumise that it does not increase the risk of HIV.The risk of HIV is soley on the people involved and lifestyle. I would never trust any chemical with my life or my loved ones in this instance. The chemical works in lab settings, but real life is different.
