Glitters but not Gold

I don't think that this lotion lives up to it's claim. It's a perfectly nice lotion and does an acceptable job, but isn't worth the price tag. My contours were not softened.

The Hi Light luminous body lotion claims to smooth your skin, soften the look of contours, and leave your skin with 'sophisticated sheen'. The lotion is paraben-free and comes in an 8.5 ounce bottle that you can open with one hand, similar to a shampoo.

The packaging for the Cake products is adorable. There is something very girly and almost retro about it. I am a sucker for anything with even the slightest hint of retro appearance. It's also pink, white and silver which screams lady product. I love things that look pretty!

I found that immediately out of the bottle this smelled just like fruity pebbles, which was a turn off. However, after a few minutes it began to smell like cake and was more tolerable. This is the second product with which I'm having this issue. The smell seems to change, so it could just be me. Within 15 minutes I didn't notice a smell at all anymore. If you would like this for a scented lotion then you would definitely not be getting much bang for your buck.

The lotion isn't too thick or too thin. I found it to be a nice moisturizer. It does the job, but won't be softening your elbows or knees. A benefit of the texture is that a little bit goes a very long way. I used about a dime size amount for my arm and that was plenty. It also rubs in very easily and doesn't sit on your skin, which I love. I hate when a lotion feels greasy or heavy! The shimmer is a nice, light pink shimmer that would look good on your legs, arms, cleavage and neck, particularly if you were out at night. It's not glittery like a fourteen year old's body glitter but you do notice the individual sparkles. I also found that the sparkle stayed with me throughout my days, but easily came off in the shower. There were no stray bits or anything stuck to my skin like you sometimes get with this type of product.

I think that I will use this for going out or as a nice moisturizer, plus my son is in love with the shimmer part and likes to smell things, so I'm sure we will be sharing this. Any shimmer will deflect imperfections, but as far as softening your contours, that's unlikely to happen with this lotion!

Follow-up commentary
I don't use this every day or even every week, but it has grown on me. I like it for its subtle shimmer when I'm out, and friends love to borrow it when they smell it on me!

Sounds disappointing for the price. Thanks for all the wonderful information! That was super helpful. I've been curious about these new items, but they're high and I don't really desire my body to smell of cake. Lol. Not to mention it contains yucky stuff like phenoxyethanol. Thank you for the review!

It was, if it had been $10-15 I'd say it's worth it and you get your money but for $27.99 I will pass on rebuying. Haha I usually don't want to smell like cake either!

Thanks for the review! I totally agree with you about this lotion. I also thought it was over priced and over hyped. I'm curious about the other non-shimmering lotions in this Cake line now.
