Good For You, And Your Hands, And Your Feet, And ...

This duo from Cake would make an excellent gift to anybody who likes to exfoliate and moisturize themselves. The buffer will get used up before the hand cream will, but since both parts can be purchased separately that's not the end of the world. The oil from the buffer doesn't sink into the skin right away, but excess can easily be wiped off, and if you follow up with the hand cream you'll still be left feeling wonderfully moisturized and exfoliated.

Use

The duo in this packaging is like the ultimate one-two punch for dry flaky skin. The exfoliating buffer will help rid you of any flaky skin you have with the large sugar granules, while the oil helps moisturize your skin. Not to be outshone though, the hand cream will followup and leave you feeling wonderfully moisturized without feeling greasy.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The buffer: Has a sort of two part consistency. There's the sugar granules that sink down to the bottom of the bottle, and the oil that stays on the top. You have to mix these together before you can use the buffer, but once you do you have a rough, oil covered sugar substance that will stay put if you put it on a flat or cupped surface.

The hand cream: Is surprisingly surprising. It comes out of the container very easily and feels very thin, but stays in place like something really thick might. It spreads around easily and nicely and has a very smooth, creamy consistency.

Taste / Aroma

Both pieces in this duo are the vanilla milk and baked raspberry scent, and both items definitely have the same underlying scent. The hand cream's scent is more subtle and hard to notice, but the buffer's scent is definitely strong enough to be noticed for a few hours afterwards. I wouldn't suggest trying to eat the hand cream or the buffer at all, but if you get some of the buffer in your mouth it won't be the end of the world. The large granules are actually sugar and do taste sweet. This experience was gathered from accidentally getting some under my nails and chewing on them later on.

It's hard to describe the scent of this one, for me at least. The first thing I think of when I smell it is a candle shop that has a lot of homemade candles that are trying to smell like baked goods, with a hint of sweetness underneath, and that's about as specific as I've been able to get. The scent does seem to be consistent throughout the line though, so if you have anything else in this scent you should have a pretty good idea what these will both smell like as well.

Performance

Step 1: Mix together the buffer with the included spoon. If that spoon breaks, go ahead and use any other plastic spoon. Scoop a small amount into your hands and massage gently into the area you wish to exfoliate and moisturize. Rinse off and pat dry. There will be some extra oil sitting on top of your skin that should take a few minutes to soak in completely. If you don't like the extra bit of oil sitting on top of your skin right now, you can wipe it off and it won't have any bad effects if you follow up with lotion.

Step 2: You can either enjoy your newly exfoliated hands, or you can follow up with the hand cream to help lock in a little bit of extra moisture.

I had my mother try this set out, and she loved it. Her hands usually get very dry and can crack in the wintertime, and this not only removed all of the cracking she had but also kept her hands looking nice for a few days afterwards. My husband tried just the buffer, and while he didn't care one way or the other, I saw that his hands looked and felt softer than they did beforehand. My own hands and forearms felt luxuriously soft for the rest of the day and didn't appear dry at all the next day. To get both of my hands and my forearms, I was able to use just under a full spoonful from the included spoon and about a pea sized dollop of the lotion. I was also able to use this on my legs with fantastic results and without feeling like I was going to use everything up super quickly.

For just hands, you should get quite a few uses out of it. If you also want to do your feet, elbows, knees, legs, etc, it will definitely move a lot faster and you'll end up running out of the buffer before you run out of the hand cream.

Packaging

Both parts come in an adorable box that would be great for gift giving. The front has an image of both parts and the scent. Both the back of the box and the backs of the bottles list the ingredients. The hand cream will be much easier to travel with than the buffer, but both can easily be left out and can be traveled with with no real difficulty.

The hand creme is 3.4 fluid ounces and can easily be left out with no one questioning you, or tossed into a purse to travel with. The front has the brand name and the fact that it's a milk made velveteen hand cream and a cute little blurb. The blurb is even printed in French!

The bottle lists the ingredients as water, glycerin, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth 20, dimethicone, stearic acid, althaea officinalis (marshmallow) extract, milk lipid, mangifera indica (mango) seed butter, butryospermum parkii (shea butter), phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, parfum (fragrance), carbomer, sodium hydroxide, tetrasodium edta. For the most part, unless you have really sensitive skin, you should be fine using this.

The buffer's bottle is 4.9 fluid ounces and comes wrapped in plastic with a little plastic spoon attached to it. It's got a screw cap and a foil seal to help keep everything fresh and sealed up. The front says that it's Cake and Milk Made soothing hand and cuticle buffer, and the back has a little blurb and instructions in both English and French.

The ingredients are also listed on the back as sugar, grape seed (vitis vinifera) oil, coconut (cocos nucifera) oil, avocado (persea gratissima) oil, sweet almond (prunus amygdalus dulcis) oil, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin e), milk amino acids, phenoxyethanol (and) caprylyl glycol (and) sorbic acid, parfum (fragrance), red 17, and violet 2.

Experience

The only thing I don't love about this kit is the scent, but that's not even that big a deal. Ok I lied, I don't like the cheap spoon either. It broke when I grabbed it out of the box funny, so I've been using another plastic spoon that I have at home. I love how it makes my hands feel, and so does every woman I've had try it. My husband, of course, didn't have anything to say one way or the other, although I did notice that his "elephant hands" looked a lot better after he used the scrub. He refused to use the lotion.

I've found that unlike most other lotions that I have to reapply after getting my hands wet or washing anything, I can even go to town washing the spoon off and not feel like I have to reapply the hand cream. It's definitely my new favorite as far as grabbing lotion that I can put on quickly that I know won't leave me feeling greasy or like I want to reapply it again in a short while.

I do definitely recommend this kit to anybody looking to pamper themselves or a loved one.
