I ain't sayin' she a gold digger..

A Scent of Scandal candles are a widely loved brand of 100% soy based candles which come in many scents. Their candles burn cleanly, but are also vegan and cruelty free. The scent isn't overwhelming or too powerful. I would definitely buy more candles from this company, and recommend them to anyone looking for a good, environmentally conscious candle.

Use

This is an eight ounce candle, it comes in a metal tin which is recyclable. All of the A Scent of Scandal candles are hand-poured, and made with 100% soy wax with all cotton wicks. The candles are not meant to be used as a massage candles, but I don't see why it couldn't be. They are not going to melt into a massage oil. I haven't tried melting this and putting in on my skin, but it would probably leave a waxy residue. Its best use would be to be used as an aroma candle and mood enhancer, something to make a room, dorm, or apartment smell nice. If you can't burn these (i.e. you're in a dorm or an apartment where you're not allowed to light candles), you could use a wax heater, coffee warmer, or really anything that would warm up the tin. I could see cutting the candle into large chunks and putting it in a wax warmer if you have one and couldn't burn the candles as well. I think these would work really great as gifts, they all come with really cute names and there's TONs of scents!


(My bedroom is about 15'x10' and I can smell this about 5-6 feet away but it doesn't make my WHOLE room smell like the candle)

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Since candles don't really have texture, consistency, etc. This shall be my care and safety section.

•Remember to trim the wick of your candle to about 1/4", if your candle is smoking, blow it out, wait for it to cool and trim the wick.
•Burn your candle on a fire resistant surface.(I put my candles on a ceramic tile I made at a pottery store.)
•Leave 1/4" of wax at the bottom of your candle jar, tin, votive, etc.
•Don't leave candles unattended
•Don't leave wick trimmings in the wax of your candle.

Taste / Aroma

The smell really reminded me of carrot cake not burning, right out of the package. When it is burning it has a sweet baking smell, not exactly reminiscent of carrot cake. This didn't start to smell right after burning and took about 20 or so minutes of burning to get the aroma in the air. The scent isn't a particularly overwhelming or really potent/strong, but it's not light enough that it's not noticeable. This isn't something that will make your whole house smell, but more limited to one room. I imagine in an apartment or dorm room this could possibly smell more.

Performance

The Scent of Scandal website lists the burn time as 30 to 35 hours, Eden lists it as 35 hours. The bottom of the tin says to stop burning before al the wax completely runs out so I would say 30-35 is a more accurate guesstimate of burn time.

The one thing that I didn't like about the candle, so far is that the first time I tried to light the candle it was really hard to get the wick to start burning. I'm not sure if that's because of how it's made or that was just me. Not a huge concern, it was just annoying at the time.

Packaging

The candle comes in an 8 ounce metal tin. It's very simple and effective; I love that this comes in a tin rather than a glass votive. The bottom of the tin has some safety and care tips for your candle, it also includes the website that the candle is vegan, cruelty-free, and recyclable. This doesn't look like it comes from a 'sex shop' it just looks like a candle and no one's going to guess where you got it.

Follow-up commentary
It's been about a month since I first got this candle, and I'd like to report a few things. Firstly, the wax could be used for a massage oil...but it WILL leave you feeling waxy. It does make your skin feel soft, but...waxy. If you don't mind showering off after receiving a massage (or washing hands after giving a massage). If you don't like the idea of having to shower you'd be better off buying a massage oil. Secondly, I've been noticing that the candle smells more the more you burn it. I've burned it three times. It sits on my nightstand so after the third time it's gotten to the point where I can smell it in bed. The first time I burned it I definitely didn't smell it after it was done burning much, if at all. Thirdly, I would definitely recommend longer burn times to make sure the wax won't create a funnel. I would say 6 hours or more.

Awesome review! I wouldn't have thought of putting this on a wax warmer or electric oil burner type of thing...

Just a thought-- the next time you review something like this, maybe try the Standard Format? You could put your own headings into Standard, using bold text, if you wanted. Again, just a thought!

      This candle is soooo yummy! It smells just like freshly baked cookies. The tin helps the scent stay in, I think...I can just leave it open and it makes the room smell great, even if it isn't lit. The soy wax burns without getting smoky, which is another plus. I recommend this one to my friends!
