I Always Rub Myself with Butter When My Skin is Dry

Shimmer Cream is an all natural body cream with added gold sparkles. The Amber Sun scent is an absolutely beautiful, yet not overpowering, scent. The sparkles are pretty and also don't overdo it. This product is very moisturizing, however, it's main ingredient is oil, so it feels very greasy as well. The consistency is very similar to that of butter that's been sitting on the kitchen counter for a few days in the summer.

extremely useful review
After eying the Shimmer Cream for quite a while, I finally decided to order it. I have and love several other Sensuous Beauty products and figured I’d like this one a lot. Since the other products I have all have the orange labels on them, I decided on ordering the Amber Sun cream to kind of fit my collection.

Shimmer Cream comes in a 1.25 ounce glass jar. The jar is pretty heavy and feels like it could really do some damage if it’s dropped on a foot or on a hard floor. I’ve dropped it on my carpeted floor a couple of times without any problem, but I doubt it would come out in one piece if I dropped it on a hard floor. The lid is smooth black plastic. Unlike two other cream jars I’ve gotten from Sensuous Beauty, the lid on this jar actually comes off very easily. The jar is not very big, measuring 1 3/4 inches tall and 2 inches diameter. It’s about the size of a large lip balm jar or a small hand cream jar. The jar has two labels on it, one on the lid and one around it. Both have an orange and gold design to them with a cream colored banner displaying Sensuous Beauty and the company’s logo. The backside of the jar’s label lists ingredients and some basic information about the product. This is a natural product that is tested on people, not animals.

Ingredients:
Organic sunflower oil, distilled water, beeswax, shea butter, premium amber, vitamin E, grapefruit seed extract, gold cosmetic sparkles, and carrot oil.

Most of the ingredients are common in beauty products like lotions and lip balms. While I haven’t seen sunflower oil as an ingredient in a beauty product before, I have seen it in foods like Sun Chips. I don’t see any concerns with any of the ingredients. I didn’t notice any irritation from using this cream at all.

Upon opening the jar, I found that this “cream” isn’t really a cream at all. It very closely resembles stick butter that has been sitting out on the counter for a few days in the summer. I can stick my finger in the jar all the way to the bottom easily, and when I pull it back out, everything resettles in the jar. I have to stir this up every time I use it, because a layer of oil settles on top of the cream, similar to the oil separating in peanut butter. While this is extremely oily and wet looking, it isn’t super runny, again, similar to warm/room-temperature butter. In the jar, the gold sparkles look more like little black flecks.

Since this is mostly made out of oils, it’s pretty greasy feeling. It takes a very long time to absorb into skin. However, this allows it to better moisturize and protect skin. When applied to skin, it looks very shiny. The gold flecks do look pretty on skin, though how much you get on your skin depends a lot on how well you stir the jar. If I don’t stir it at all before applying, I only get a few gold flecks. If I stir it up pretty well before scooping some out, I get a lot more sparkle.

The scent of this cream is amazing. I have a hard time keeping myself from smelling it constantly. The amber scent is beautiful and isn’t overpowering. I can’t really smell it on my skin from more than 2 feet away. I can’t really describe the scent very well, but it does smell like handmade amber incense I bought before. It’s kind of like a woody, warm slightly spicy scent. I put a small amount on my finger to do a taste-test, and this stuff tastes like soap. It also gave my breath a slight amber scent. It doesn’t have as much flavor if it is applied to skin and rubbed around.

Experience
Due to the oily nature, this product can also be used as a jack-off lube. It lasts a very long time and does not dry out. However, as with oil based lubes, this cannot be used with latex condoms, since it will break them down. I use the cream just to moisturize and add a bit of sparkle here and there. My hands get pretty rough and dry from work, as I have to use a lot of heavy duty detergents. After just a couple of applications, my hands smoothed out quite a bit. I feel the jar can last quite a while, even though it’s pretty small. The oily feel allows just a little cream to really go a long way. Just a small dab on two finger tips is enough for me to lotion up both hands pretty well. Shimmer cream would also work great as a massage product, since it lasts so long. This may not be very practical, though, considering how much comes in the jar. Massage creams or oils would be a lot cheaper to use.

Cleaning this off can be a little difficult. I found that antibacterial hand soap and a washcloth got it off pretty well. Dawn dish soap also is pretty good. Some soaps, like my oatmeal bar soap, don’t get all of the oil off of skin. I noticed no staining to my sheets. As with any oily fabric stain, I recommend pouring some Dawn dish soap on the spot before washing. This always gets the greasy stain out of fabrics.

I definitely recommend Shimmer Cream to those looking for a nicely scented, yet not overpowering, moisturizing cream. This product, while greasy feeling, is long lasting and soothing to skin. While this is not my favorite Sensuous Beauty product, it’s definitely worth a try.

I would have loved to take pictures of the sparkles, but since they are such tiny gold flecks, they don't show up at all in pictures. They aren't very noticeable for others unless they are standing pretty close to you, as are most cosmetic sparkles.
Follow-up commentary
I still love the scent and shimmer of this cream, but I don't use it very often. My skin has been breaking out with acne a lot lately, and I figured I should probably avoid using oily products as much as I can, so that my pores aren't super clogged.

I am looking forward to wearing this the next time I get all dressed up.

The cream still has the same consistency, even though the temperature in my apartment ranges from mid 70's to the 50's, depending on whether or not I've been at home. My door is not working properly and a lot of cold air gets in quickly.

Eek! For $22.99 I would expect a non-greasy product. Thanks for the review!

Eh, I stopped reading at "greasy". I can't stand that feeling on my skin! Thanks for putting that in the beginning of the review. Nothing could make me buy this except for a formula change.
