Use

As a kid, I loved taking baths! Sticking my Little Mermaid foam cutouts on the tile, over flowing the tub with bubbles, and making Alfalfa tower-hawks with my hair were great activities. But as I grew up and got my own place, I never really enjoyed taking baths in my adult life. I guess its because I never really had the time to draw a nice bath, and didn't have enough money left over from the college party fund to spend on things like luxurious bath oils and salts. But, as I've been thrown even deeper into adulthood, I've found that I've needed to make more me time for pampering because I deserve it after all the hard work...don't we all?!

So, start the indulgence with these fragrant dead sea bath salts by Shunga Erotic. This generously large tin of bath salts, the gorgeous sea shell, and the floating candle it comes with are all you need to bring the sea to your bath.

These salts can be used by anyone. One of the ingredients is glycerin, which is known to increase the chance of UTIs in some women, but it is low on the list. The ingredients are as follows:

Sodium chloride, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, Fragrance, Glycerin, Carthamus tinctorius, Prunus dulcis.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture of the sea salts isn't really felt because they dissolve very quickly in the water. They are smaller granules than most salts I have had before, which may be why they don't take long to disperse into the water. If you use your hand to put the salts in the water, be prepared for an oil left on the skin as well as a blue powder. Both easily wash off. The tin comes with a real shell as a scooper, so use this instead. It is easy to scoop out of the bag using the shell.

Taste / Aroma

You will be hit with a very strong fragrant soapy smell when you first open this tin. It is very strong because of the concentration of the salts. It gave me a little headache at first. Once put in the water, the smell is not as strong and is much more appealing. I got the aphrodisia scented one. It smells like a flowery soap. It left the bath room smelling great and even lingered to the rest of my apartment.

NOTE: Do not ingest this under any circumstances.
    • Smells good
    • Strong smell

Performance

I used the shell to scoop two shell fulls of the salts into my hot bath. I was a bit shocked at first. It looked like I had dumped blue foaming dye into my tub! I was thinking...that better not dye my skin. It did look very vibrant and was fun also. I have an average sized bath and the two scoops was just fine. I swirled the water around with my foot a bit checking that the blue didn't stain me and slid on in. Most of the salts were already dissolved into the water when I got in. No uncomfortable granules to sit on. I immediately noticed that the water felt silky, but not oily. It made my skin feel smooth and flawless. The fragrance and feel of the water put me at ease and I sat reading a book til I got pruney. I totally enjoyed myself and my luxurious adult bath! Even after getting out and drying off my skin felt softer and smelled like the salts. The smell was not as strong of course, by a nice lingering even four hours after my bath.

I could not tell if the small white votive candle that was included was scented the same as the salts or if it just because it was in the same container. I did not light the candle because I didn't want to have to watch it while reading my book, but I did test if it floated. It floated upright in the water just fine. It would be nice if more than one were included.

Packaging

This product comes in a large round tin. It included a pound and a half of salts! I imagine that it contains enough for 30 plus baths based on the amount I used for mine. The packaging tin is very pretty. It is gold with black wrapping that tells about the product, and lists the ingredients. The front has a pretty picture of an Asian couple embracing. The top is like a paint can. Peeking out of the lip, is a plastic disc attached to a red piece of ribbon. When you pull this out, you can use the disc to pry the top open. I didn't have any trouble doing this or putting the top of the tin back on. I could turn the tin over and it would stay put.
Because of it's large size, I would say that this isn't very travel friendly. Shunga has kits with smaller containers however. Or if you want to take some on a trip, you could put some in a zip lock bag. I would keep the salts in the bag they come in, instead of dumping them into the tin. This will preserve the smell and oils.
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

It really does turn the water bright blue, but doesn't dye you or the tub I promise!

This is a low quality camera photo picture, but you can see how bright the blue is! Photo

Follow-up commentary
After using this about 5 times so far, I've realized that the tin will last a fair amount of time. You can tell that I've used the bath salts, but I think that if you use two scoops from the shell like I do on average, that this tin will last you about 25 uses. This isn't true for a larger than standard tub however. A lay-in tub or one for two people, would last about half as many uses. Even if you used this to soften the water in hot tub, and only used it once, I would still think this stuff is worth it. I still love the smell it leaves in our bathroom, on our skin, and the way it makes the water feel. This is one product that I plan on continuously replacing for a long time.

I also wanted to not that you actually can leave this in your bathroom without fear of the salts clumping due to moisture. Make sure the bag is spun and twist tied and then the tin lid is on securely. This sits on top of the back of my toilet and has not gotten an moisture clumping.
