If Only The Scent Was Stonger

I enjoyed using these bath salts. The smell is great and they dissolve fast. However, the scent is not as strong as I would have preferred and the aphrodisiacs had no effect.

Pros
Smells great, dissolve easily, packaged attractively, relatively well-priced
Cons
Smell isn't strong enough, no scoop, aphrodisiacs did not effect us

Use

DONA by JO is an aphrodisiac infused line consisting of 20 different bath and body products. The name originates from Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of sexuality and love. It may also interest you to learn that this product line was created for women by other women. It is intended to be a ritual, consisting of five steps: relax, cleanse, nourish, illuminate and engage. These Bath Salts are part of step 1, the relax step.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

DONA Bath Salts come in crystal form and feel like little rocks in your hand. The crystals are pretty solid and will not crumble as you throw them in. They are a very natural looking milky white opaque color, with no added colors. There is no scoop included with this product, so you will have to throw them in by hand. Make sure your hands are dry when you do this so as not to get the contents still left inside of the jar wet. I did not notice any particular feel to this product once it was dissolved in the bath.

Taste / Aroma

Products from this line are infused with one of six proven aphrodisiacs. Please note for fragrance preference that Acai, Camu Camu, and Goji are types of berries, Lotus is a flower, and Mangosteen and Pomegranates are types of fruit. Also, expect the fragrances in the DONA product line to be on the lighter side, as the products are intended to be used together to creating a layering effect. I purchased these Bath Salts in Acai. The smell was wonderful and just like an acai berry. When I first opened the jar, the scent was nice and strong. However, when using it, I found it to be too light on its own without the other products I purchased. There is currently no taste added to these products.

Performance

Other than the scent being too light, I didn't have any other issues with this product. The container did not specify how much to use so I tried a few tablespoons. The salts dissolve quickly even without being placed directly under running water. Once dissolved the salts were pretty much unnoticeable. I did not notice any residue left on my tub, so there was nothing to clean up after using it.

Packaging

DONA Bath Salts come in a 9 oz plastic jar with a screw off cap. The cap closes securely and opens easily. The label on this product has a print of black lace over dark purple. The front of the bottle lists the product name, what the product is, what step in the ritual it is, the scent, and some of the eco-friendly bullet points (more on that later). The back of the bottle has brief instructions, the ingredients, and the product's official website. Here are all the details:

Directions: Add generously under running water into bath tub.

Ingredients: Sodium Chloride, Magnesium Sulfate, Silica, Maltodextrin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta Glucan, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Oil, Laminaria Digitata (Algae) Extract, Euterpe Oleracea (Açaí) Fruit Powder, Fragrance

Personally, I found the information offered with this product to be very minimal. I had to go to various websites to research the product on my own. It would have been nice if the product came with a hang tag or fold out label with information on all the steps, the scents & actions of the various aphrodisiacs, and the eco-friendly qualities.

    • Easy to use / dispense

Personal comments

I would like to take this opportunity to briefly discuss some of the benefits to using sea salts. DONA Bath Salts are from the Dead Sea which has been particularly recognized as having healing aspects. This is an ancient method, recorded both in the Bible and said to be used by Cleopatra. Sea salt is a recommended treatment for those with skin conditions, including psoriasis, dermatitis, and acne. "The sea salt solution softens the outer layer of the skin, allowing magnesium and other beneficial minerals to penetrate and heal it...sea salt "acts as a surface disinfectant" and encourages blood flow...the increase in circulation and assistance in cell rejuvenation boosts the general appearance of skin." The minerals in sea salts also help to relax aching muscles for those with chronic joint conditions. It doesn't end at just physical benefits however. There are psychological benefits as well. Using sea salts has been shown to affect one's brain chemistry, positively altering mood, increasing one's energy level, enhancing sleep quality, and creating peace of mind.

Experience

As I have already discussed most of the qualities of this product, I think the only thing I have left to talk about is whether or not it lived up to the claim of increasing sensuality by being aphrodisiac infused. Sadly, while the scent was quite pleasing, this did nothing extra for my partner and me. The Acai is meant to have stamina prolonging qualities, but we didn't notice any difference. I'd like to give this product the benefit of the doubt and say maybe with daily use there would be more results. However, since my partner and I really don't get a chance to take daily sensual baths together before having sex, this wouldn't really increase the product's usefulness for us.
Follow-up commentary
I still think it's a decent product. It dissolves very quickly, even if you use a lot of it. However, no amount of it makes the scent any stronger, which is sad given how wonderful it smells in the jar. I plan on using up what I have, but not buying it again.
