It Was Good While It Lasted

The hitachi is a staple of my sex toy bag; it deserves the hype it gets, for sure. Strong, but loud, the hitachi might just be too much for some, but for those who are disappointed by weak vibrations in other toys, the hitachi delivers.
Published: March 20, 2010
Pros:
Strong vibrations, easy to use solo or with a partner, might be too strong for sensitive women.
Cons:
LOUD! And it died mid-session.

Use

A classic personal massager, the Hitachi Magic Wand is certainly magical. With a large head for huge stimulation and a powerful vibration speed (even on low!) the Hitachi is sure to hit the spot, wherever the spot is. It also works well to stimulate your partner's penis; if you are using it while being fucked, he'll be able to feel the vibrations, too.

Because the vibrator's head is so large, it can also be used for anal stimulation, or as an actual massager--use it on your arms if they're tired from too much masturbation!

Material / Texture

The hitachi's head is smooth, slightly ripped plastic; but as it's corded and not waterproof, full sterilization can be tricksy. One of my issues with the hitachi is that I used it while menstruating, and was subsequently unable to restore the head to its former pristine white condition. A lesson learned--use a condom over your hitachi if it's gonna get dirty!

And, because it's latex free, those who are allergic don't have to miss out on a thing.

Design / Shape / Size

It's large, so it won't fit in an ordinary toybox, but for those who think bigger is better, the Hitachi delivers. The only issue is that if you're using it for solo stimulation for a long period of time, the straight shaft can hurt your forearm--so remember to switch off and give your dominant hand a break!

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls are easy to use: Low, off, and WOW. Even on low, the vibrations are intense. . . And LOUD. The hitachi sounds like a jackhammer in the bedroom--but it can be muffled under a blanket and a TV show. But the vibrations are serious, so people with difficulty reaching climax may find this toy satisfying.

While some don't like electric--I do; it means that the hitachi is never going to die on me from low battery power when I need it to live on.

Care and Maintenance

The hitachi is easy to care for; the plastic means it's safe for use with all lubricants, and safe for cleaning. Because of its size, I cannot store it in a toybox with my dildos and vibrators, so I make sure it is wrapped in cotton before storage, to prevent anything nasty from soiling it.

Packaging

It came in a fairly bland cardboard box: I was suspicious and underwhelmed when I first saw it. Looks were totally deceptive.

Personal comments

A fabulous toy that every woman should own; if not for daily use, then for those special occasions where a quick fix isn't quick enough.

Experience

I must say that I am the first among my friends to actually KILL a hitachi! My hitachi died, mid-session a few weeks ago, refusing to turn on to its low setting. While I'm saddened that the hitachi only lasted about a year, it was used daily and did its job quite well while it lasted.

I think your Magic Wand was defective. I've had mine for 30 years. Its possible they don't make them the same way now, but even so, a year is too soon for it to die.

It's possible that it was defective; it has since started working properly again, but it concerns me that it fritzed out; I'd rather have a new one than one that's got an electrical short. Even so, it was a great product while it lasted; it worked quite nicely.

It does suck that it's defective--and it full well might not be, but I'd rather not take a chance and just buy a new one. Thanks!

The Hitachi's just one of those classics that I've never tried. Maybe someday Smile Thanks for the review.

I was never interested in the hitachi, but my partner insisted. . . I'm so glad she did! It's definitely something else--but it's a little rough on sensitive parts at times.

Ugggg - a shame it didn't live longer. I'm interested in those wand cause of how everyone raves about it but the noise is an issue for me. I so need my own place.
Cheers on the review!

  • Hitachi Wand Vs. Acyvube
    • Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...
    • I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

We are going on 3+ years on the acuvibe. The shell is starting to crack but it still functions great, I just wanted to know if we should switch when I do want to buy a new one. More powerful sounds good :)

  • The Size !!!!!!!
    • Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
    • In the way of what, exactly? It's not really a toy for couples play and actually it's not even designed for masturbation but has become the Holy Grail of vibrators through decades of word of mouth.
    • Quote: Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
It's really only meant for external use. So if you are talking about insertion it probably would be a bit big.

  • Universal
    • Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
    • There are a few. If you search the site you can find a couple.
    • Quote: Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
I don't know if I understand the question, but the attachment we bought for our Hitachi is a "universal" attachment that we bought from another store. It's too "floppy" for me, but is a nice g-spot attachment, or would be if it was a little stiffer!

  • Bullet Vibes that rival the Hitachi Magic Wand
    • Hello, everyone!

Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!

I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.

I was looking at the more expensive clit vibes- JeJoue's MiMi and Lelo's Siri. Do you think that they would be strong enough? Do you recommend anything? Thanks guys!

U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00

Its on a review of mine already..

  • Hitachi
    • This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax. The Hitachi far exceeds this task, she doesn't use any other toy now, always reaches for the Hitachi. Just need to get her the G-spot attachment and she is set up. Thanks again.
    • I completely agree. The Magic Wand is the best vibrator ever.

  • Have you ever used a wand?
    • HI I was wondering if you have ever used anything like the Fairy Wand? I have used the baby fairy wand but its tiny... the size of the larger ones kind of intimidate me ... what are your thoughts on them and should I get one?
    • I dislike most of them intensely. They're too strong, too big and they make my whole vulva - as well as my hands - feel numb.

      Many folks love them, though!
    • I used the Wanachi Mini, which I really liked. Unfortunately it fell apart, it seems mine wasn't the only one either. I did contact Pipedream though and they seem eager to correct this problem!
