It works.

This product is a decent lip balm, with a cute design. It will do as it promises: smooth, soften and moisturize. However, it doesn't offer any features or performance over the variety of lip balms that you can purchase at any corner store.

Use

This lip balm adds a moisture to your pucker when you don't require any significant color or shimmer. The formula has a touch of shine, too, so it's good when you're in a hurry and need to add something to your pout without looking at the mirror.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Like most lip balms, this one feels a little thick and waxy. It definitely gives your lips the feeling of having a protective barrier. It also works well for stick form, because it's solid enough to keep its shape; although, it may melt in hot temperatures. What lip balm wouldn't?

Taste / Aroma

The vanilla scent is noticeably sweet. The vanilla is there, but you may be able to detect just a hint of something else. It might be a little cocoa but, whatever it is, it makes this less boring than your traditional vanilla. There's also just a hint of sweet flavor when you first apply it. This does fade rather quickly, and you're left with the waxy residue taste instead. The scent is really quite light, so it shouldn't bother you or your partner if you don't like overpowering smells. On the other hand, if you like obvious smells, you might be disappointed.

Performance

As a product, this performs about as well as Chapstick, providing smoothness, moisture and softness. You may notice that your lips need a few days to become accustomed to this, during which time they may feel more dry than normal. After that period, however, it should help improve the look and feel of your lips, even when you haven't applied any product recently. It helps reduce dryness, cracking and general discomfort associated with both, thanks to the Vitamin E, jojoba oil, and shea butter.

You'll be able to know when to reapply when the moisture wears off, which will take no more than a couple hours. The thicker balm does leave lips shiny and feeling soft and moist. It helps to camouflage lines just a bit as well, but there are no plumping qualities. This might be great to put on before colored products, to assure that your lips are smooth and not ragged.

One positive you may notice is that it doesn't cause the foam reside at the corners of your mouth or where your lips meet.

Packaging

This comes in a tube like lipstick, rather than Chapstick. You pull off the cylindrical cover, which is almost as long as the tube itself, and twist to apply. The top of the tube is slightly indented -- perfectly, for your finger to push down upon so it snaps into place. This feature isn't necessary; however, it does add an interesting visual element.

The design is thicker than Chapstick and might feel bulky for some folks, especially if you like to slip your balm into your tight pockets.

The EOS logo is engraved into the side and bottom of the tube, which has a velvety finish. This adds a bit of drag and makes it a little more difficult to accidentally drop. Other than that, the tube is a plain color (off-white or green).

Special Features

Although some reviewers have reported that the mint has a cooling effect, this is not the case with the vanilla scent. If you're sensitive to tingling, this might be the better option for you.

If you're a fan of organic products, this might be better than some of the chemical-laden alternatives that are readily available. It's specifically labeled at 100% natural, but only 95% organic. Many consumers assume that the two go hand-in-hand, but it's obvious that EOS is very conscientious about these labels, and there is definitely a market for this angle. It also contains no petroleum and isn't tested on animals.

Experience

I enjoyed this product. It worked decently and was a good replacement for my Chapstick. It helps to moisturize my lips and add shine; however, the waxy feel is unmistakable. I like the change from my cherry lip products to vanilla, but I wish the smell and taste lasted longer. It's a little bulky, which does make it pretty easy to find. I'm just not sure that something that only works as well as my previous product is worth around three times the price.
Follow-up commentary
I finally used up the last of my lip balm. After using it every day for months, I think I got my money's worth. However, I really miss it and my lips do, too. If there's one thing that I don't like about it, it's how it completely broke without notice when the tube got to its end.

Thank you for the review and its follow-up! I know the lip balm breaking is common to the tube-form ones I've tried; I wonder if the round form is better at preventing this?
