Lather Me Lightly

Camu Camu may not be my favorite by way of DONA aromas but the body wash itself is a great buy. With its rich, natural consistency and easy-to-use packaging DONA makes shower time nice and easy. If you are interested in body washes that have light aromas due to allergies or just because you don't like overwhelming smells this will be a great find for you. If you are someone who prefers strong aromas that waft off of you post-shower this probably won't be what you're looking for.

Use

The DONA product line by System JO offers an array of goods to choose from. In this case we have the DONA line’s body wash in Camu Camu. This wash also comes in Pomegranate, Acai, Goji Berry, Blue Lotus, and Manosteen. Each of these products is infused with the aphrodisiac property of their names. Do not mistake these names for the scents of the product rather they are the type aphrodisiac you are receiving. Please remember that since everyone has different body chemistry it might take a while to find the aphrodisiac that works best for you. Since this is a body wash I would say this works well for anyone as long as they are A) In need of a body wash and enjoy showering or B) do not have negative reactions to glycerin. Yes this product does contain glycerin thereby making is slightly dangerous to those who are prone to yeast infections. This will all depend on how you use the product and you will have to be careful to keep the suds away from your nether regions. Although that’s kind of a main part of the cleansing process so you have been warned. While I am sure you can use this product anytime or anywhere its main purpose is to be used while you are washing your body to help cleanse you.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

As you might be able to notice from the picture below of the Camu Camu dripping slowly back into its bottle this is a thick body wash. But don’t fret it’s not so thick that it will clog the bottles pump or have a nasty consistency. This body wash has just the right amount of thickness to feel weighty in the palm of your hand but still move easily at your discretion. Due to this the consistency is fairly good. This is not a drippy product that will slip through your fingers the minute it’s out of the pump. Nor is it thick enough to have a slow, rough consistency. I have had no problems moving this about in my hands building a lather nor have I lost any of the body wash because it slipped out of my hands.
Some body washes that I have owned in the past tended to be creamy. They felt lighter than the Camu Camu and also slightly sticky. I am glad to report that this is not one of those products. If anything it feels to me something akin to dish soap. Not too thin, not too thick, nor too heavy or light. All in all this feels less artificial than a lot of other body washes I’ve tried recently and I appreciate that.

Taste / Aroma

I’ll admit that the first time I smelled the Camu Camu body wash I thought, “This smells like Play-Doh.” You know the mold that is marketed for children to play with and create art out of? Well that was my first impression of the Camu Camu's scent. Upon further investigation (read: sniffing) of this aroma I’ve realized that it differs a bit from the obnoxious smell of the Hasbro concoction. First Camu Camu smells lighter and less bitter. I cannot think of anything akin to what this scent reminds me of. I will say that it’s sweet but not to the point were you’re going to feel like your nose is getting a sugar rush. The aroma is more of a musky sweetness. That’s probably the best I can do in describing how this body washes smells.
Personally, I not really a big fan of this scent so I’m glad to report that this is a very light aroma. You would have to place your nose within an inch of the bottle or on the palm of your hand, wherever the body wash may reside, in order to catch a whiff. This is great for those of you who do not like heavy aromas that can sometimes be overwhelming. Naturally, since it is not a very strong aroma when in the bottle you can bet that the Camu Camu will linger on your skin once washed off.

Performance

Since this is a body wash you will probably want to use it in the shower. First make sure your body is damp, then place some to the Camu Camu onto your loofah or the palms of your hands and lather. After you're done rinse off your body. If you would like to try using it elsewhere you are free to do so as long as it is not hazardous to your health. I do not know how well this would clean up if it were to spill on cloth but I think if it did you could just pop it in the washer with little harm done. In general the product does not last very long. You use it to lather up your body then you wash it off. On that note I will add that the lather, while rich once you start using the Camu Camu, loses its suds pretty quickly. This is not something that bothers me too much but usually it means I have to apply more body wash then I would normally use. If you are hoping this product will last you awhile it may or may not depending on your showering preferences. I will say it usually takes me about 3-4 pumps of this to fully clean myself though.

Packaging

The biggest regret for me was the packaging. You may ask why, is it discreet? Yes, this 9.5oz clear bottle has no discerning factors that would make it indiscreet to travel with or have out when company arrives. The purple sticker covering the products includes a cute faux lace pattern, ingredients, and even instructions “Apply and lather generously all over your body. Rinse and follow-up with your favorite DONA body lotion.” So what the heck is there to dislike? Well usually I would be super excited to get a container that has a pump. The body wash slips smoothly out of the pump with no mess and very little fuss. My problem is that this is not travel friendly. The pump does not close back up once opened. No, correction, it does reseal if I press the pump down and twist in the opposite direction of the provided ‘open’ arrow. The problem is that it doesn’t stay closed. Luckily I rechecked my luggage before I went away for the weekend or I would have had a gooey problem on my hands…and clothes, and toothbrush. I packed my bag the night before and sealed my DONA body wash but come morning it had popped up again. This meant leaving the wash at home and borrowing someone else’s on the trip. While not a big deal it is something I’m unaccustomed to with my usual body washes that come in ‘squeezable’ packaging so I wasn’t too happy with this. Especially since it tricked me the night before by closing.

Info on Camu Camu
According to RainTree.com Myrciaria Dubia better known as Camu Camu is a shrub found in the Amazon that produces round, light orange-colored fruits are a considerable source of vitamin C. In fact the Camu Camu plant provides the highest amount of natural vitamin C on the planet. This has lead to the fruit being in high demand among natural supplement manufacturers. Luckily DONA is not asking us to eat this product, just lather it on our skin as the side effect of a high amount of vitamin C is diarrhea and gastrointestinal disturbances.

Experience

While I may not like the aroma given off by the Camu Camu and the fact that I cannot travel with it really chaffed me when I went on a trip overall this is a great product. I like how naturally this feels in comparison to some of my creamier, more artificial body washes. The consistency was rich without being too thick and the bottle’s pump feature is pretty dang nice. This is something I would get again in another aphrodisiac quality or DONA ‘scent’ however you prefer to see these products. One thing I do wish for is that DONA developed this for the consumer in different size quantities. Like I said earlier it usually takes several pumps for me to get enough lather for my whole body and I would hate for it to run out quickly.
Follow-up commentary
This was an okay body wash for the price. Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the scent very much nor the lack of lather. Because it didn’t lather so well I had to use more than necessary which led to the product not lasting as long as some of the other body washes I’ve owned. Now I can’t be certain this happens with all of the body washes in this collection because they’re all unique in some way. If you want to give this a try I say go ahead, after all I can only speak from my own experiences.

Thank you for sharing. I'm going to have to try Dona's body wash once I run out of all my Bath and Body Works body washes and bubble baths.

@Unfulfilled: Haha I love Bath and Body Works. Dona has a thinner viscosity though if that's something you like about your product. If not this is pretty nice.
@Lil' Missy: Haha yeah the name does kind of give you that impression if you've never heard of the fruit. Honestly when I first heard of it I thought the manufacturer made it up! Yeah, I'm sorry too.

Thanks for the thorough review! I have the Dona Lingerie wash in Acai Berry which I really like, but the consistency of this body wash looks suspiciously similar to the consistency of the lingerie wash. Great to know that the scent is not to die for. Will definitely reconsider future purchase.
