Light Me Up!
I love the feel of the Afterglow candle by JimmyJane. It left my skin very soft and got rid of a lot of the dry skin that I had. The only big issue that I had was with the scent. I didn't like how masculine the bourbon scent was. I would stay away from this if you are allergic to scents because it is very strongly scented.Published: January 3, 2011
Pros:
Great smooth texture, Not at all greasy or waxy, No residue left on skin
Cons:
Masculine Scent
The Afterglow candle by JimmyJane comes packaged in typical JimmyJane packaging. It comes in a cardboard box, which is kind of elegant looking, with a picture of the candle on the front of the box. It has a gray stripe around the box with the product name on it, and it features some very minimal information on the candle on the outside of the box.
When you open the box, the top flap will say "Melt Me" in white lettering with a red background. There is a small booklet that is set on top of the candle which is your user manual. It has a picture of the candle on the front with the Afterglow name and the JimmyJane logo.
Inside the manual, you will find everything you need to know about the candle. It includes how to use your Afterglow candle. It suggests that you burn your candle for 30 minutes before your initial use of the candle, so the wax/oil will evenly burn. Otherwise, you won't get the candle to burn evenly again unless you burn it for a suspended amount of time. The manual also features some basic info on what the candle in made from and what it doesn't contain. Farther into the manual, you will find all the scents that Afterglow come in and their ingredients.
Underneath the manual is a gorgeous candle that looks elegant and grown up. It comes in a ceramic, white container. It features a nice little pour spout that is great for pouring the wax/oil onto your skin or your partner's skin. It has the JimmyJane logo on the side of the square holder.
The Afterglow candle doesn't have paraffin or dye. It doesn't have any phthalates, parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, or animal products. Afterglow isn't tested on animals either which I found awesome. Your candle should burn for up to 32 hours depending on how much wax is used each time.
The Afterglow candle does has a very strong scent, so if you are allergic to scents, I would probably stay clear of this. I got the candle in the Bourbon scent, and to me, it doesn't smell very much like Bourbon but a bit more like fire wood. It has more of a masculine scent. If you are looking for something great and manly to use for your partner, this would be a great buy. The scent also lingers on the skin and can be noticed by people that are a distance of about 10 feet away.
The candle has a very nice smoothness to the wax/oil. I didn't find it sticky or greasy in any way. It sank into the skin very quickly, so I did notice that it was necessary to re-apply after a short time of use. We used the candle with the Contour M (also made buy JimmyJane), and it worked great! The wax/oil left my skin very soft afterward; there was no greasy residue or waxy residue to remove afterward. I just had very soft skin. The wax/oil didn't irritate my skin in any way which was nice. I have very sensitive skin which gets irritated quite easily, but I had no problems with this candle.
I do intend to buy more of the Afterglow candles. I will probably buy the sampler so that I will have a better idea of what scent works best for us. The Bourbon scent was just a little too masculine for me to leave on my skin, but I am looking forward to trying the other scents.
TIP: I also use this candle as a moisturizer on my really rough patches. For example: Use it on your heels, and put some socks on over it, and it will leave your heels nice and soft. Try it on rough patches on your skin; it works really great for dry skin.

Follow-up commentary
8 months after original review
I will always go to my Afterglow candles after a long hard day at work. I line the tub with them and take a relaxing bath, once I get out I have enough oil melted to hydrate and make my skin smell and feel amazing.

Jimmy Jane Afterglow candles- Best Scent?
-
what's the best Jimmy Jane afterglow scent? or the better ones?
-
Well, first off, there are lots of threads on the scent of these candles already. But ignoring that, I think it's really up to your preference in smell.
In my experience, all the scents are fairly high quality, so it just depends on what you like. I personally favor the Dark Vanilla and Bourbon scents. My good friend prefers the Water Cucumber, while it is totally not for me. Some people love the Truffle Gardenia, but it's comparatively very floral. I would really like to try the Vetiver Honey in the ember series.
My recommendation would be to go with what is most similar to your usual favorite scent. Sweet edibles? Masculine spices? Flowers? Citrus? Or you could always try the sampler. More expensive but awesome :-) -

The special edition scents look tempting, but I would also like to make sure I purchase something both my partner and I would like. Also I kind of wanted to get a general sense of what is most widely liked. Which I feel I could have gotten with a poll, but unfortunately I am not sure how to do that. I did see a post explaining that to post a poll it the option is next to the post discussion option, but I have seen no such poll option.

Can you describe the scents of the Afterglow massage candles from Jimmyjane?
-
If your own words and from your own personal experience can you please describe what the different scents are like? I'm having trouble deciding on which ones to get. Thanks! =]

I did a review on the Afterglow Sampler set, but this is what I have with the scents.
Cucumber Water smells like a crisp, clear, watered down version of a cucumber melon scent, and is quite possibly my favorite. Pink Lotus has a decidedly floral scent to it; not overpowering but definitely there. It's hard to pinpoint anything more specific than "floral" for me on that one. Truffle + Gardenia (the special edition one, also available as a regular Ember candle) is also hard for me to pinpoint. It smells like an earthy floral to me, a more involved scent. Bourbon smells sweet to me, almost like molasses or something else I'd bake with. Dark Vanilla still smells like a generic "vanilla cookie" scent to me. And Grapefruit. To me, there's a hint of citrus and a whole lot more of something I can't put my finger on. When I first smelled it I thought back to the Habanero + Grapefruit mini Ember I have, only this is a little less spicy to the nose. JJ claims notes of grapefruit, bell peppers, and mandarin for this one. -
Thanks! I think the ones I want to try most are Dark Vanilla, Cucumber Water, and the Truffle Gardenia... and the Bourbon. Jeez I want to smell them all. Choosing which to buy online is difficult but I'm sure whichever one I choose I'll love it anyway. =]

Afterglow Packaging

I was just curious - Jimmyjane has changed the style of the Afterglow candle to the "pour spout" that's rocked by the Ember. Is EF still selling the old style with the brush as indicated by the picture?
FYI I'm in favor of the pour divot format! -
This is something I'd like to know, too. *Bump*
-
The new version features a spout for easy pouring and that is what currently available on EF.

Thank you for viewing Afterglow – massage candle review page!

Purposely making the room, and your body, smell like booze . . . just wow. I think I'll try grapefruit or something instead! Great review.
The sampler package is definitely worth trying. Good review.
@ToyGeek It actually doesn't smell anything like Bourbon ... It smells more like a fire in the fireplace... with that smokey wood scent. It didn't resemble booze at all.
@Mistress Kay I am definitely going to give it a shot... I love the texture of the candle just not the scent.
Great review!!!
Thanks
I hate how ordering scented or flavored things online is such a hit or miss thing. Good review!
darthkitt3n - I completely agree
Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the review. What are the ingredients listed for the candle that you got?
Great review!
Good review...
