There are over 100 reviews of the Hitachi magic wand massager here. Over 100. All of them sing the high praises of the toy. It is also a toy that I see frequently in porn movies as well. The Hitachi has had great exposure and great reviews. I was still hesitant to get it though. I had high expectations for the toy that has been called the best of sex toys by many people. I was worried that my expectations were going to be too high to be met.

Of course when I got the package on my doorstep I was beyond excited. It was finally here, one of my own. The packaging of the Hitachi was sort of cheesy. I know that it is marketed as a massager, and not a sex toy, but the packaging is so 1970s. The font and pictures, and everything is just so outdated. Granted, packaging I guess doesn't matter to much when word of mouth is selling these toys.

There wasn't any smell or taste to the top of the Hitachi, which is awesome because I hate smelly toys. The top of the toy the part you use is made out of plastic, but doesn't really feel like plastic. It has some give to it and is just... different. I would almost say it is like a combination between rubber and plastic feeling. There is a texture to the head, but nothing that is too horrible for me. I could barely tell when it was in use.

Now, speaking of in use, the Hitachi lives up to its name as a powerhouse. I can honestly say that these vibrations are STRONG. That's what it is known for though. If you are holding the Hitachi head in your hand while it is on, you can feel the vibrations up your whole arm. Even on the 'low' setting which is still high the vibrations are earth quaking.

That brings me to the noise, the noise is noisy. You will hear this through a closed door no problem. This is without a doubt the loudest toy I own. Hands down. But the Hitachi itself is so awesome that I don't really mind the noise. But it is something to be aware of when purchasing if you live with a roommate or parents.

While the Hitachi doesn't scream sex toy, it is not phallic or anything, I wouldn't say it is discreet. Maybe it's just me and my sex toy obsessed mind, but if I were to see this in someone's house I'd think they were using it for some naughty time.

Cleaning the Hitachi is something that is a bit different than other toys. I wouldn't want to wash this down because it is in no way waterproof. So taking a damp towelette or toy wipes or toy cleaner to this is the way to go. I wouldn't recommend sharing this because it cannot be sterilized nor can it be used with a condom. It is worth the investment to just have one of your own, so just do it that way.

The Hitachi is big though. Measuring at a full foot for length, it is not tiny. Nor is it light, the toy is awkward and heavy to hold sometimes. However, it really does make up for it in the powerhouse orgasms that result.

However, while I adore my new powerhouse toy, it isn't the end-all-be-all for me. It has definitely earned a rightful position at the very top of my play box, but there are other toys that have more finesse. I think it is a great addition for those looking to expand their toy boxes, but if you are a beginner, look elsewhere.
