Looks Can Be Deceiving
While the Don't Stop Massage Candle is quite lovely, smells nice, and will last for a long time, it does not work well for massages. The oil is thick and waxy, and just sits on top of the skin leaving you feeling coated.Published: March 31, 2010
Pros:
Pretty scent, long lasting, lovely container.
Cons:
Does not work well for massages. I do not smell any chocolate.
I love massage candles! And I’m starting to amass a collection of them. So when I saw the Don’t Stop Massage candle by Booty Parlor I jumped at the chance to get it and review it. I was actually quite excited because I really like Booty Parlor’s products…….usually. Unfortunately as far as a “massage” candle goes, this one falls short of what I had hoped it would be.
The Don’t Stop massage candle is actually quite beautiful. It comes in a lovely white porcelain holder with matching lid. It actually looks like a little creamer container, with a pour spout, which works great for pouring the wax out. It is trimmed with a pretty black ribbon and bow, with a thin pink ribbon running along the middle of it. Unfortunately the first night that fell apart because it was barely glued together and couldn’t hold up to even the lightest handling.
The candle scent that I got was called Spicy Chocolate Cinnamon. So imagine my surprise when I opened it and smelled cinnamon and floral….no chocolate. But I thought maybe once the candle was burning that it might smell a bit different. Unfortunately it does not. I really can’t describe the florals but there is a definite floral scent. I did ask my husband, two of my daughters and my son what they smelled, just in case it was me, and they all described it the same way I did. It is a pretty scent and I do like it. It’ just not what I was expecting.
The candle holder is filled almost to the top with the wax. It is a very nice sized candle with 7.5 oz of wax, and is supposed to be able to burn for 46 hours. Of course that means as just a candle and not when you pour out the wax for a massage. But even if used as a massage candle, this one will probably last for quite a long time. The wax is made of shea butter, vitamins A & E, jojoba, olive and coconut oils, and natural soy wax. It is paraffin and paraben free, and contains no dyes or colorants. Booty Parlor says “ This formula melts at a low temperature to become a silky, long lasting massage oil that warms and nourishes your body.” What you do is light the candle and let it burn until enough oil forms. Once you have enough oil, blow out the candle and pour the wax onto the body, and massage it in. The wax will remain liquid for about 15 minutes. If you need more oil, simply relight the candle to create more oil.
The wax from this candle is wonderfully warm, and not the least bit hot. And that’s about the only good thing I can say about it as far as how it performs on the skin. As I said, I love massage candles and have others. What I have experienced before with other candles is a nice oil that feels heavenly, holds up well to massages, and then soaks in to the body, leaving behind soft scented skin. But with this one, the oil is very thick and waxy feeling. It’s rather heavy and doesn’t want to move around much, and it never soaks in. It just sits on top of the skin and feels like you have a coating of wax on it. The only way I was able to finally get it off was to wash it off with soap and water.
I will use this candle until all the wax is gone. But only as a candle. As I said, I do like the scent. And the container, minus the ribbon, is still very pretty! I just wish this one hadn’t been such a disappointment.

We still only use this as a regular candle. I'm not even super crazy about the scent. But it works. I am looking forward to the day that all the wax is gone because the holder is super cute and will work great for holding cream for coffee. I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone, especially at such a high price.

Massage Candles-Yes?No?Worth the price?
-
Im not really one for the whole "hot wax" foreplay, but I really love the massage benefits because of my muscle/joint pains and fibromyalgia issues. $35 seems like a lot to spend on this candle, but I LOVE the look and it seems to be a decent size. What do you think? Are there better ones out there? Which is your favorite? What would you suggest?

While I don't have that specific candle, we have tried others and we really enjoy using them. My partner absolutely loves the heat of the oil. I know he would say it's worth it. I personally think $35 is a bit much, but since my partner loves it so much, I let him buy it lol!
There are other candles that are decent for lower prices if you wanted to try one out. Try searching the Tantric Candle. We tried that one and it was pretty fantastic. -
The JimmyJane candles are about the best as far as what you get and the massage that you can get from the oil. There are a lot of candles that would be good for short massages where you're basically just rubbing the oil in as a moisturizer, but for most longer massages where the oil starts out as a candle JimmyJane Afterglows are probably going to be recommended the most. The Tantric candle that sktb0007 recommends is a good one too, and cheaper than the Afterglows.
