Makes a good candle....

As a candle alone, this is amazing. It smells awesome, nice, and clean. Unfortunately, as a massage oil, it leaves a thick film on your skin and doesn't last long in oil form. It takes a long time to melt down into oil, By the time there is enough to use, you are no longer in the mood for a massage. I guess that's why they needed to add the aphrodisiac effect into it.

Use

This candle is made to be burned, and then the "wax" turns into a massage oil. Each scent is also supposed to contain an aphrodisiac of sorts to heighten your "mood" during use. The candle should be lit for at least 30 minutes before used as a massage oil, and the flame should be put out for about 30 seconds before you pour it onto your partner.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I felt that the texture was very waxy. It left a thick film over my entire back and did not work into my skin like other massage candles I have used. I do not enjoy the feeling of waxy skin, and it started re-hardening about 3 minutes into the massage. Master said it felt greasier than a non-massage candle wax, but not as oily as the other candles we have used. There was not enough to use as massage oil.

Taste / Aroma

I LOVED the smell! It really was the best smelling candle I have sniffed in a LONG time. Because of this, I will be using it as a candle until it is gone, but I will not be using it for massage purposes again. I received the Mangosteen as a gift from one of my writers on A Woman And Her Wand, Wynter Reign because she fell in love with the Dona scents and wanted me to try them out.

Performance

Other massage candles I have used are quick to turn to oil, usually no more than 10 minutes before there is enough oil to use. Unfortunately, this candle took a very long time to melt, at 30 minutes in this is what we had available.

This was not enough for a full massage. I am impatient, and we decided to start anyway in hopes of having more available by the time this absorbed into my skin.

Master put the fire out, poured what little oil was available onto my skin, and re-lit the candle to make more oil. The massage lasted three minutes before the oil hardened as a thick wax and left a nasty film over my back. Master kept trying to massage for another 2 minutes before he gave up from hand pain, from having to struggle through the waxy film.

Packaging

There really was no special packaging. Wynter ordered 3 Dona products for me to try out, and they were all put into a plastic bag, and then closed with a knot. Each item had a "safety strip" on them to show they hadn't been opened and to show the scent (in this case, "Mangosteen"). The candle's safety strip was broken upon arrival.

Follow-up commentary
I still think this smells AMAZING, but as a massage candle, it is no good. I don't like the waxy feeling it leaves on my skin, if that is what I was looking for, I'd just use a regular candle. I will continue to burn this, just because it smells great, but I'm not going to try it on my skin again.

too bad it didn't work as a massage oil. A warm oil is amazing! Glad you enjoyed the scent. Thanks for the review.

I have tried regular yankie candle, the wax leave the skin smooth and moist. Can be messy, and have to like pain!

  • Dona products - which scent is the mildest?
    • I'm tempted to take advantage of the sale, but I'm very sensitive to fragrances. I know there are some Dona addicts out there who've tried everything. Which of the scents are the mildest? Which would you recommend to someone who is sensitive to smells?

All I know is that Blue Lotus smells sickeningly like Pop Rocks. So much so that I couldn't use it. I have no idea why, either. There was nothing blue or lotus about it.
    • I got the Goji Berry and I love the scent of it. It smells like berries.

  • massage candles
    • I'm not familiar with massage candles! I've never seen these before. So you burn it, let the wax melt, then poor it on each other? Doesn't if burn? Does it soak into your skin of is this something you have to scrub off when you're done?
    • There is a review with a video on this - maybe you should check that out in a bit more detail. I believe others will be writing reviews soon too.
    • I agree, read all of the reviews. Melted wax can be uncomfortable and even burn the skin. I haven't tried a massage candle, yet.
