Use

Flickering Touch Massage Oil in Spicy Clove and Amber is best used for massage or as a luxurious skin moisturizer. Simply give the bottle a shake, lift off the oval cover, and depress the pump to apply a quarter-sized dollop of oil onto your skin. When first applied, the flecks of 24 karat gold shimmer in the light. As you spread the oil, the deep, sensual scent of cloves and amber fills the air. The rich aroma is calming without being overly strong.

While this product works well for massage and moisturizing, it should not be used as a lubricant. Additionally, be careful not to let it get near the eyes or other mucous membranes, as the gold powder (made of mica, titanium oxide, iron oxide, and gold) can cause irritation.

This oil is fairly thin but not runny. It stays in place well on moderately flat surfaces and slowly drips down more vertical planes. Once applied, it rubs into the skin somewhat easily without leaving much of an oily residue. The oil spreads easily across skin, feeling silky rather than slippery.

Taste / Aroma

The clove notes of this scent are more vibrant initially, and once your nose has taken in those earthy essences, the serene notes of amber embrace you. When you first apply this oil, the scent is much more noticeable. The aroma may lightly linger during a massage due to friction and hand motions, but it won't permeate the air when the oil is left alone. The scent is still noticeable when inhaling near the skin for up to an hour or so after application.

Performance

The apricot, grapeseed, and jojoba oils in this product make massages and self-moisturizing both luxurious experiences. To prevent dripping, place your fingers or hand against the wider portion of the pump top. Keeping the bottle upright, depress the pump assertively and completely, then release. When applied, the oil absorbs into skin fairly quickly and feels silky afterward. As a moisturizer, your skin will feel softer and retain a light glow. If you enjoy massages with a bit of friction, apply sparingly. Adding more oil allows for more fluid gliding motions and longer massage sessions. The gold flecks are much more visible before the oil is massaged into the skin; once spread, the skin retains more of a mild glow than a distinct shine. As silky and smooth as the oil feels on the skin, it also washes off pretty easily with soap and warm water.

The oil bottle stays upright easily due to its stout, weighty design, so feel free to keep it on the bed with you during a massage; it shouldn't tip over or spill. Overall, the packaging and product itself work well together to create a sensual pampering experience.

Packaging

Flickering Touch Massage Oil comes in attractive, sophisticated packaging, as you might expect from a LELO product. The black matte cardboard box is sturdy and has a decorative front featuring a faint silhouette of the product and the word “LELO” in gold. Instructions and ingredients are listed on the back of the box. Opening the top of the box reveals a thick cardboard insert with the oil bottle nested inside. An orange-red oval cover sits over the pump, acting as a guard. The packaging holds the bottle in place and could easily be wrapped and gifted.

The solid, classy container can easily be reused once you have fully enjoyed the Flickering Touch Massage Oil.

Personal comments

When I first saw this product, I couldn't remember what cloves smelled like, and I hadn't a clue if I'd like the amber scent. I was delighted that these fragrances were such a good match for me and my partner. We both prefer deeper, richer scents like Spicy Clove & Amber to fruity- or flowery-scented massage oils. The rich fragrance inspires confidence, power, and thoughtfulness in me, and has yet to be overpowering, even after several reapplications. My partner and I agree that the scent is very slightly masculine, but it certainly hasn't clashed with my femininity (or his, for that matter). We both really enjoy the scent and like the drier blend of oils. This product has certainly earned a place on my nightstand next to my favorite massage oil.

      I've actually been using it every day as a moisturizer (I get dry skin in winter)and it has no bad effects on my skin. It cleans off easy and doesn't leave you feeling greasy afterwards so I don't think it will leave much residue to block your pores.
    • I've got all three of them and yes!!! I've got weirdly oily skin in some places and very dry skin in others.

      Lelo oil is the only moisturiser I've been able to use daily after my shower that doesn't make my skin drip with oil, doesn't feel like it coats my skin, and makes my skin feel sooooooo good!!! The scent is not strong and works with my perfume not masking it or changing the scent.

      This being said, I feel that the spicy clove and amber one is the strongest scent out of all three (but not in a bad way if that makes sense) and not something I'd recommend for the summer.

      I've used all of the Burt's Bee's line, Ocean Potion Original and the Hemp Seed lotion, countless after sun's, and countless other products designed for oily and combination skin from name brands to dollar store types and everything in between. Last year I switched to using just olive oil as a moisturiser in the winter and had some good results, but I couldn't stand how it smelt.

      Then I tried the Lelo oil... and WOW!!! My skin has been so thankful!!! I have found that on the underside of my breasts, I have to be careful to not apply too much and to rub in a little bit extra, or make sure I let my skin dry completely before putting on clothes.

      And on that note, I am off to write a review for Lelo oils.
