Maybe Too Good?

While the Hitachi Magic Wand is considered the ultimate vibrator by many users, the limit of only two levels of vibration may make it too intense for some. Overall, it's a great toy to use to warm up for more pleasures in the night to come.

Pros:
Easy to clean and strong vibrations
Cons:
Ball is not smooth and vibrations can be too intense

Use

I wanted to love the Hitachi. It is supposed to be the Holy Grail of vibrators that is a must have for anyone that likes intense vibrations. Up until now, that has always been me. My body responds best to a good strong vibrations, so I decided to finally buy a Hitachi. Unfortunately, she just can not get me off. I tried several times adjusting the amount of direct stimulation I had on my clitoris but no matter what I did, I just couldn't finish. In fact, it made it more difficult for me to orgasm other ways after I used it. The Hitachi does feel wonderful on my vulva and is incredible on my breasts and nipples and love to use it that way.

This toy would be useful for both private use and partners. I can see it best use for getting in the mood. Rubbing out sore or tired muscles and just teasing your sensitive spots before moving on to other toys or play to finish your evening. Also, it would be wonderful to use as a muscle massager in a non-sexual fashion when ever you had a painful spot.

Material / Texture

The Hitachi Magic Wand is made of food grade plastic, so that means it is latex and Phthalates free. Being latex sensitive, this is a very important thing to me. The ball is not smooth, but textured and that might be uncomfortable for some. I really didn't notice it because I could just feel the waves of vibrations except on my nipples where I found it quite pleasant. When I took the toy out of the plastic wrap, there wasn't any smell that I noticed and it didn't have an unpleasant taste. Overall, I don't feel this is a beginners toy. It is definitely for someone who has used vibrators before and likes strong vibrations and the texture certainly goes along with that.
    • Bumpy
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

The Magic Wand is a very traditionally designed massager. The business end is a ball shaped end that is about 2.5 inches in diameter. The base of the unit is about 9 inches long. The neck of the massager does move slightly so you can aim the ball where you need it. Having the long base does make it easier to hold on to, especially since the vibrations are so powerful, but it may get in the way during couple play. On a side note, I was worried about the cord getting in places it shouldn't, but that never seemed to be an issue for me.

The good thing about the design is that you can put the ball almost anywhere. While I played with it, not only did I massage neck, shoulders and back, but also my breasts, inner and outer lips, clit and the peri area. My partner loved it on the inside of his thighs and also behind his testicles.

A few important tips: because of the intensity of the vibrations, I strongly feel the Hitachi is for an advanced user. It is certainly something you need to build up to. Because of the noise, it is certainly not discreet and out on a dresser or in a travel bag it would be very obvious what it was.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The great thing about the Hitachi is how easy the controls are. The switch is located on the main body of the toy and is easy to use like turning on a light switch. The first setting is low and the second is high. But, be warned this is not your usual low. The settings on the Hitachi are low but seriously intense and high and wickedly intense. If you want to really tease someone these settings would be sweet torture. All of these incredible vibrations are located in the slightly flexible ball end of the toy. The Hitachi has attachments, which can be purchased here at Eden, to make that ball into many other fun shapes.

The other good thing about the Hitachi is that it is electrically powered. Batteries are a pain, so I love that this massager plugs in for its power. There is no worry here about how long you can use it or disappointment because of dead batteries.

Another thing to consider is how loud this toy is. Since it's on the minute you plug it in be prepared to muffle the noise before hand if this is an issue for you. Of course, with noise levels nearing washing machine and jet engine depending on the settings you are using, it probably is not something to use if privacy is an issue.
    • Easy to use
    • Not discreet at all
    • Not enough variety

Care and Maintenance

The Hitachi is easy to care for as long as you do not get it wet. Since it is an electric toy, I prefer to immediately clean it with toy cleaner and then carefully was the head with a soapy washcloth followed by rinsing with just a damp one. Since the ball is made out of plastic and has a ridge, it is important to get it clean to make sure that nothing is left behind.

I store mine in its original box inside my toy bag. I like to keep it in its separate box to keep it dust free between play times. Since the Hitachi is plastic, it is safe with both water based and silicone lubes. I used mine only with water based and noticed that I needed to keep reapplying because of the strength of the vibrations.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The Hitachi comes packaged in a cardboard box that has a life sized photo of the product on it so it is not very private. The massager itself is wrapped in a plastic bag inside the box. Also included in the box is a small instruction booklet.
    • Good for storage
    • Not discreet

Personal comments

I almost feel bad giving the Hitachi a so-so review since it seems to have an overwhelming following, but it's important to note that not everything works for everybody and this toy has its place in my toy chest for other fun play.
Follow-up commentary
While the Hitachi still remains too strong for me to orgasm, I still love it for different types of foreplay and muscle relaxation. I am very happy that I added this to my toybox because my husband and I are finding ways to use vibration to please him that would never have happened with my penis shaped vibrators.

  • Good alternative to Hitachi?
    • I had a rechargeable mini fairy wand, but last week it ended up breaking, and now I'm desperately looking for a similar type wand massager. I've looked at a couple, but I'd really like some input on which massager people are recommending. Thanks!
    • I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

Ooh, thanks! Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.

I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

  • Will it be out of stock until the sale is over?
    • Ekk! It is out of stock again! I keep missing it. I finally have enough to buy it but I guess the discount made it sell like crazy. Does it typically not come back in until the sale is over?

Panicing a bit because I'm moving soon and will need to purchase it within the next week.
    • You can open a support ticket from your account dashboard to ask about it. If they know when it'll be coming in they'll be happy to tell you.

  • Strength
    • Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
    • Quote: Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
Probably not for less than fifty dollars. A friend of mine is saving for the Sybian or The Rock Box. I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though. However, if you want something similar to the Hitachi, I would suggest either The Wahl or a Fairy Wand. I own the Hitachi, Wahl, and Fairy Mini but highly suggest the Wahl. It is the most rumbly of the three and is nearly silent.

I think the Hitachi is the strongest vibe i know of.

  • Hitachi Wand Vs. Acyvube
    • Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...
    • I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

We are going on 3+ years on the acuvibe. The shell is starting to crack but it still functions great, I just wanted to know if we should switch when I do want to buy a new one. More powerful sounds good :)

  • The Size !!!!!!!
    • Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
    • In the way of what, exactly? It's not really a toy for couples play and actually it's not even designed for masturbation but has become the Holy Grail of vibrators through decades of word of mouth.
    • Quote: Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
It's really only meant for external use. So if you are talking about insertion it probably would be a bit big.

  • Universal
    • Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
    • There are a few. If you search the site you can find a couple.
    • Quote: Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
I don't know if I understand the question, but the attachment we bought for our Hitachi is a "universal" attachment that we bought from another store. It's too "floppy" for me, but is a nice g-spot attachment, or would be if it was a little stiffer!

  • Bullet Vibes that rival the Hitachi Magic Wand
    • Hello, everyone!

Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!

I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.

I was looking at the more expensive clit vibes- JeJoue's MiMi and Lelo's Siri. Do you think that they would be strong enough? Do you recommend anything? Thanks guys!

U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00

Its on a review of mine already..

  • Hitachi
    • This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax. The Hitachi far exceeds this task, she doesn't use any other toy now, always reaches for the Hitachi. Just need to get her the G-spot attachment and she is set up. Thanks again.
    • I completely agree. The Magic Wand is the best vibrator ever.

  • Have you ever used a wand?
    • HI I was wondering if you have ever used anything like the Fairy Wand? I have used the baby fairy wand but its tiny... the size of the larger ones kind of intimidate me ... what are your thoughts on them and should I get one?
    • I dislike most of them intensely. They're too strong, too big and they make my whole vulva - as well as my hands - feel numb.

      Many folks love them, though!
    • I used the Wanachi Mini, which I really liked. Unfortunately it fell apart, it seems mine wasn't the only one either. I did contact Pipedream though and they seem eager to correct this problem!
