Mmm, You Taste Like Candy

Shunga massage cream is definitely not for a long massage, but it sinks into your skin really nice. Once it's dry, it doesn't feel sticky or greasy at all. It leaves you lightly scented and lightly flavored, making you an irresistible treat.

Use

This stuff makes a great massage lotion, and works really well if you're just looking for a way to make yourself slightly more edible after a shower, bath, or any time during the day. The scent is just strong enough to invite you in for a closer smell and it tastes just like candy.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Shunga's massage cream has a really thin texture to it. It's not watery by any means, but you can easily pour this right out of the jar it comes in. If you opt instead to dab your fingers into the jar, unless you scoop out a huge portion, it'll stay pretty much exactly where you put it.

Between the fingers and on the skin it feels really creamy and silky. It can leave you feeling slightly sticky, but that will go away once the cream dries completely, which varies based on how thickly you put it on. A thin layer will be completely dry in just a few minute.

Taste / Aroma

I have the Blazing Cherry version. Also available on EF is the Raspberry Kiss, Sensual Mint, and Vanilla Fields, although Shunga calls it Vanilla Fetish.

The cherry smells like cherry flavored candy really. It's hard to describe exactly. The aroma itself isn't all that strong, which is nice for those with sensitive noses. You have to be right up next to the skin to smell it. It tastes very much like it smells it would. On the skin it's fairly light. You'll still taste a lot of skin unless it's on really heavily, and then it'll make your tongue go numb and you won't be able to taste anything really.

Performance

I like this better as a lotion than as a massage cream, but for shorter massages between 5 and 15 minutes, it lasts the whole time. Once it soaks into the skin it leaves you feeling soft and silky, lightly scented and lightly flavored. If you put too much on, you'll really need to rub and rub and try to transfer to different areas to get it all soaked in properly.

For a few minutes after it goes on, and if you start to sweat a little bit, it'll be a little sticky. I find that adding the sweet snow from Shunga can keep it from staying sticky if you're starting to sweat.

If you do feel the need to wash this off, some warm water, soap, and a wash cloth should do the trick.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural

Packaging

As always, Shunga's packaging is elegantly packaged with a picture of some Japanese art, what it is and what flavor it is all on the front. One side of this short container lets you know that it's 7 ounces. The other side lists the ingredients, which are water, stearic acid, glycerin, safflower oil, sorbitol, cethyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, peg 100 stearate, petrolatum, triethanolamine, flavor, methylparaben, sodium saccharin, honey, vitamin E acetate, propyl paraben, DMDM hydantoine, fd&c red #40.

For those of you who are sensitive to glycerin and parabens, I would avoid using this anywhere near your girly bits.

If you have longer fingernails like I do, what I find makes it easier to get this out of the container without ending up with tons of it under my nails is to dip my knuckles in instead of my fingers.
    • Does not leak
    • Travel friendly
    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

While this is flavored and edible, I advise only licking off of your partner and maybe yourself. Eating right out of the tub can lead to a numb tongue.

Experience

I'm a big fan of Shunga. Everything I've gotten from them has been top notch. While this doesn't last the longest for massages, I think that using an edible massage cream usually leads to lots of licking and kissing and that massage should be shorter anyway ;)

Mostly I use it as a lotion right out of the shower. If I know it's going to be really hot outside I'll dust myself with the sweet snow powder which also seems to make the scent and flavor last a bit longer. The powder keeps me from getting sticky if I start to sweat.
Follow-up commentary
I don't use it very often, but I do still use it from time to time. The consistency hasn't changed, which is nice too. It's still a good enough lotion that my husband loves to lick off of me.

Thanks for the great review. I enjoy more "candy like" things and thus will likely enjoy these. Am ordering some. However, I'm confused. Some reviewers say the taste is SWEET, and LIKE CANDY, and others use the word TERRIBLE and don't get it in your mouth????? Are you all talking about the same stuff???????

  • Does the Shunga massage cream smell like yogurt?
    • I've tried the Kama Sutra Body Souffle's and they smell like yogurt. Do these smell like that too? Or are these more sugary/candy like? I really don't like the yogurty smell, it's just not my thing. Also when you rub this in does it start to pill up like the Kama Sutra does? Thanks.
    • In general Shunga products are more candy like than Kama Sutra's. The one I have from Shunga, the cherry one, doesn't smell like yogurt at all. To me it smelled (and tasted) a lot like candy, you can read my review on it here. This one seems to soak in like a regular lotion would, only it tastes better.
    • I don't think they smell like yogurt! I found raspberry kiss, vanilla, and cherry scents in this body butter quite enjoyable!
