My instinct says: nothing special...

I was curious about the premise of the product, but was ultimately disappointed by it. Pure Instinct is the same generic, sweet, fruity fragrance on me and my boyfriend, and it's not a scent either of us was impressed by. It seems to be a crowd pleaser, so if you enjoy sweet fragrances it may be worth a try - but I wouldn't buy it for the promise of a personalized pheromone sex attractant fragrance, charisma in a bottle, or anything like that. Sadly, it seems like just another gimmick to me.

somewhat useful review
Pure Instinct attract cologne is sold as a unisex, pheromone-based attractant cologne. I was first introduced to the product in high school, by a friend who bought it at a sex shop. My friends and I all tried it on, and we were certain it smelled different on each of us. The idea of a personalized sex attractant fragrance was alluring, so when I ran into the same product online years later, I couldn't resist picking it up for myself to see if it was as special as I remembered.

When I received my bottle, I tested the fragrance on its own and on my own skin, and I got my boyfriend to try it on as well. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the results of all 3. On its own, "Pure Instinct" is a light, sweet scent. It changed in exactly the same way on his skin and mine, deepening slightly but maintaining mainly sweet, fruity notes - almost too sweet for me. It's not offensive, but it's not something I would pick for myself now and neither of us found it especially attractive. I would highly recommend sampling this fragrance before picking it up, if you are able to - it was appealing to me in high school, but at 20, I doubt I'll ever wear it and I'm certain my boyfriend won't either - although it claims to be unisex/"gender friendly," I would classify it as a much more feminine than masculine scent.

Pure Instinct is an oil-based cologne, so it is longer lasting on the skin than most alcohol-based scents. It lasted several hours on my skin. After that, it faded but was still faintly noticeable. It comes in a translucent blue glass bottle with a black plastic screw top. The top has a small glass wand attached to apply the fragrance with. This makes it easy to apply the desired amount, but may present some problems if and when you reach the bottom of the bottle. Of course, the bottle could also be tilted against the wrist to apply, but I prefer to use the wand, as it gives better control of how much I put on. The bottle contains 5 fl. oz (15 mL) of fragrance, and is about the same size as a standard bottle of nail polish. The small size is deceptive, as this amount will probably last most people a very long time because of how little is needed.
