Not Really Pomegranate, but Works Anyway

I enjoyed this lotion for its light moisturizing properties and its long-lasting smell. Unfortunately, the pomegranate smells floral and not fruity, like I was expecting. It could be because the products are named after their main aphrodisiac and not the actual scent. Every review seems to describe the scents differently so I think it's an adventurous gamble you'll be taking if you buy this product.

System Jo's new line of health and body products use the brand name Dona. I ordered both the body lotion and body wash in pomegranate scent. The body lotion itself is a thinner product, intended for light moisture on a daily basis -- or more.

I enjoy fruity scents so was pretty sure that this was a safe bet. However, as soon as I opened the shipping box, a pretty strong floral scent was noticeable. Unfortunately, this was the smell of the products themselves, coming through both the bottles and the plastic that the folks at EF had wrapped around them for shipping. With that said, I've tried really hard to detect any sort of fruity smell about this product and there is none. If I had to describe Dona's pomegranate products, I would label them as mostly floral with a bit of generic cosmetic/perfume scent. It's not a bad scent per se. I just don't especially enjoy florals and if you're really expecting this to smell crisp and tart and fruity, then you're out of luck.

It's a shame because the scent probably seems overpowering due to my personal preferences but it's also long-lasting. If this did smell as I would expect, I'd love it. Rubbing the lotion into my skin leaves a lingering scent that lasts over several hours and several hand washings. The same is true for the body wash so they work very well together.

Dona has also hit a slam dunk with its packaging. The label depicts a clean and somehow modern lace pattern in the background. It's quite elegant. The lotions are all an orange hue, which I don't love. I would have rather seen the packaging colored by scent (red for pomegranate!), but it's attractive, nonetheless.

The lotion comes in a pump bottle that locks. This is a great way to administer a thin lotion; however, mine seems to be broke and I can't seem to get it to come unlocked no matter how much I turn it. I can probably replace it with a pump from an old lotion bottle, and it's unlikely that this has affected the entire line because my body wash pumps just fine. These things happen.

As I've mentioned, the lotion is quite thin, but it still seems to rub into the skin pretty nicely. It doesn't offer a deep condition for the rougher skin on my feet so I will probably stick to thicker lotions there. Still, it doesn't simply seem to smear over my skin like some thinner lotions, so I enjoy that. It does leave my skin feeling quite soft and smooth, however. I would really enjoy using this product on a daily basis if the scent didn't turn me off.

The list of ingredients is pretty long, and while it does include a lot of natural oils, that contentious "fragrance" makes an appearance. If you're curious, the ingredients are as follows:

Purified Water, Heptyl Undecylenate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oil, Propanediol, Saccharide Isomerate, Caffeine, Maltodextrin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta Glucan, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Algae Oil, Passion Fruit (Passiflora Edulis) Seed Oil, Rice Bran (Oriza Sativa) Oil, Açaí (Euterpe Oleracea) pulp Oil, Babassu (Orbignya Oleifera) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Myrciaria Dubia (Camu Camu) Fruit, Fragrance

However, this product doesn't contain parabens or tricosan so it's better than some others on the market. I don't have any allergies or sensitives so I like it well enough.

In fact, I'm pretty sad about the scent because I like this as a light lotion. Unfortunately, I think it will wind up in the back of my bathroom cabinet.

Great review, I am sorry this didn't work for you. I had the same trouble with by body wash bottle, I thought it was just me. I had to hand it to the hubby for 5 minutes before he was able to get it unlocked.
