Not so sweet almond
I’m a fan of both Kama Sutra’s line and massage oils, so had high hopes for this sensual product. As I'm an amateur masseuse, I have fairly high standards for a massage oil, and put this through it's paces.Published: September 16, 2011
Pros:
doesn't soak into the skin, STRONG scent,
Cons:
discreet packaging,
The bottle the Sweet Almond old comes in is tall and thin and made of squeezeable plastic. Kama Sutra has updated their packaging, so the bottles are no longer frosted, they're now clear with a classy looking and vaguely middle Eastern logo. This is something you could leave out on your dresser, as there is nothing overly explicit on it. The scent of the oil is listed on the front, along with a brief description of the oil’s properties.
The lid seems to hold up well and hasn’t leaked in my toy box, but I’d recommend storing it upright and put it in a plastic bag if you decide to travel with it. The back of the bottle has a quick description of the oil in multiple languages as well as the ingredients, which are:
Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Pistacia Vera Seed Oil, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus (Sweet Almond) Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, Coumarin, Limonene, Linalool
The scent, Sweet Almond, smells like marzipan to me. Marzipan is insanely delicious Christmas treat for me, but something that’s best in small amounts, otherwise it leaves me feeling nauseated. Sadly, this scent has a similar effect. It smells really strong to me, and my girlfriend also finds it overwhelming. Also, the scent sticks around on skin. Half an hour after I’d given a massage with it (and washed my hands!), I’d keep getting whiffs of marzipan. If you like the scent of your massage oils to be long lasting, this is definitely for you! Kama Sutra’s oils also come in several other scents, including ‘Serenity’, ‘Healing Blend’, ‘Pleasure Garden’, and ‘Soaring Spirit’.
The oil is a very light and (as oil tends to be) is very runny. Be careful pouring this onto your partner’s back, as it may decide not to pool conveniently and run over their sides. It will stain fabric, so putting down an old towel before you start your massage will keep you from worrying about ruining your sheets or blanket. The oil isn't meant for consumption, but if you accidentally get some on your tongue, it doesn’t have much of an aftertaste, just the normal ‘Oh, hey! You just licked something that is made of oil’ flavour that’s to be expected. I also don't recommend using this oil as a sexual lubricant. Oil weakens latex, and having to deal with a broken condom will definitely ruin the relaxed mood your massage just created!
In use, I found that you really didn’t need a lot of this oil. A quarter sized puddle worked well for a fairly long (15 to 20 minutes) massage on my victi…erm, subject’s back without needing to reapply. It stayed reasonably slick and smooth without becoming tacky. However, the reason I didn’t need to reapply it was that it didn’t soak into the skin the way I prefer my massage oils to. It stayed lightly on the surface of the skin and needed to be washed/wiped away so it wouldn’t stain the sheets or our clothes. My subject's comment post massage, was "I feel nice from the massage, but my skin feels like I worked a shift at a fast food place 'cause of the oil on it. I'm going to go shower now." I wasn’t a fan of having to let them shower post-massage so we could go to sleep or leave the bedroom without accidentally ruining surfaces we came into contact with.
I really wanted to love this massage oil, but I can’t get over how overwhelming the scent is. I give it 3 strongly scented paws up out of 5.

I still dislike this oil. I tried using it again, but we ended up showering to get the oil off and re-started the massage using my Holy Grail massage oil, Sensuous. I tossed what was left of the bottle afterwards.

Sensual Massage Oil- What the heck do they smell like?
-
Sensual Massage oil has a nice little selection of scents...
Here's the problem- There are 5 scents to choose from, but no way to know what each one smells like! There is no description of any kind! And most of the names (Pleasure Garden, Healing Blend, Serenity and soaring Spirit) give no hint as to what scents they include!
Does anyone know of a website/page that describes each scent option better than EF's product page? -

I read the first 3 reviews that had been posted on this product, and was discouraged when they didn't describe all 5 scents. After reading your response, I decided to go through and read every review for this product, in search of descriptions.

"~Purple- Healing Blend
"Rich blend of essential oils for soothing muscles and restoring harmony."
This scent is very relaxing and warm. This is a great scent for when you want to relax and unwind. It has elemi, clary sage, clove, and nutmeg. It's a warm and sensuous nutmeg/clove scent. It makes you feel warm and sleepy.
~Turquoise- Soaring Spirit
"Invigorating blend of pure essential oils to energize and refresh."
This scent contains scent notes of citrus, geranium, ginger and fennel. This scent makes you feel clean and awake! To me it smells like strong peppermint.
~Orange- Sweet Almond
"Sensual combination of calming oils for relaxation and de-stressing."
This one smells exactly like almond extract. I love that smell! It contains the oils of sweet almonds, vitamin E, and skin smoothing emollients.
~Green- Pleasure Garden
"Aromatic mix of pure essential oils for sensual and seductive intimacy."
This one contains oils from Italian bergamot, ylang ylang, neroli, rose, lavender, and sandalwood. To me it smells like a sexy blend of sandalwood and lavender. It's very warm and cozy.
~Blue- Serenity
"Soothing mixture of pure essential oils for quieting body and soul."
It contains oils from warm cedar, sweet marjoram, orange, and lavender. I think this one smells the lightest and kinda smells like a mix of sweet almond and healing blend. It doesn't smell unique. It's a very relaxing scent and it's the lightest."

"The sweet almond is the most simple of the oils. While the Pleasure Garden is italian jasmine, rose, lavender and sandalwood; the Soaring Spirit is fruity with orange, lemon, peppermint, spearmint, geranium, ginger and fennel; and the Healing Blend is more of a woodsy smell with lavender, cardamom, rosemary, marjoram, elemi, clary sage, black pepper, clove, nutmeg, juniper and pine."
I wanted to share those two descriptions, in case someone else is wondering what they smell like and (like me) doesn't think to read through ALL the reviews for a description. :)

Thank you for viewing Sensual massage oil review page!

Thanks for sharing. Interesting you found this to have a really strong scent. I purchased the Massage Therapy Kit and the Sweet Almond was one of the lightest ones.
Great review
Great review
@Schwaltze It could be because I am sensitive to some scents? Both my girlfriend and I found the oil to be very strong. Of course, everyone has different tastes.
@Pink Jewel Thanks!
Yum, marzipan---but only in small doses, like you say! Bummer that this doesn't soak in. I think I've been less impressed with Kama Sutra's stuff overall than everyone else seems to be.
@Antipova Thanks for the comment! My test monkey and I were ridiculously slick after playing with this...it was like a marzipan slip'n'slide of doom!
I've tried a few different Kama Sutra products, and while I've adored a few, I've found better (and cheaper!) alternatives to most.
Thanks for the review!!
Looks like a great one. Thanks for the review!
@purpleladybug Ta for the comment!
@Elnoa I would disagree, given that I got rid of it...maybe I wasn't clear enough in my review.
Thanks for the review
@Angel142stx Thanks for reading!
Sounds too sweet.
@arewehavingfun? I definitely found it to be an overly sweet scent, yes.
Wow, that is one awful experience with a massage oil! Thanks for braving that to write this review!
