Not The Best Lip Balm

While I was super excited to try this lip balm, I'm sorry to say it was a colossal disappointment. If you're looking for a balm that moisturizes your lips and lasts a decent amount of time, look elsewhere.

Use

I'm a lip balm fanatic and a lover of all things truly natural and organic, so needless to say I was excited when I saw EOS Organic lip balm offered on Eden Fantasys. At first glance, this product is the ideal when it comes to lip balm. It's paraben- and phthalate-free, and 95% organic. It comes in mouthwatering flavors and pretty pastel colors. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations, but more on that later.

The ingredient list reads as follows: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Beeswax (Cire D'abeille)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Natural Flavor, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract*, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract*, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit Extract*, Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit Extract*, Linalool.

Note that because beeswax is an ingredient, the lip balm is not vegan. Also, if you have allergies to bees or tree nuts, proceed with caution. If you have any kind of allergies it's always a good idea to test a new product on an inconspicuous area such as the inside of your arm.

Presumably this could be used by both women and men, although I think most men would be a little put off by its feminine appearance.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The consistency of this lip balm is waxy and rather heavy. I'm surprised, given the natural and organic ingredients, that it feels like it just sits on the lips rather than sinking in and actually moisturizing. I would expect such a result to come from a petroleum-based balm (a la Chapstick), not one with plant based ingredients. I have to say I was very disappointed in this regard. Moisturizing is, after all, the entire purpose of a lip balm, so it's kind of useless.

    • Waxy

Taste / Aroma

The smell of the product is mouthwatering, but not too strong. It reminds me of a specific other strawberry product which I can't recall at the moment. You can only smell it when you put the container right under your nose, or when you first apply it you can also smell it. Unfortunately, it tastes more like a candle so I would advise if you do buy the product, save it for your lips.
    • Light smell
    • No taste
    • Smells good

Performance

On the plus side, I did not find this lip balm hard to apply as others noted. Even though it is shaped differently than stick balms, I was able to apply it easily to one lip at a time, or both.

However, as might be expected from a lip balm that fails to moisturize to begin with, it doesn't last long. Maybe ten minutes, tops before all traces disappear.
    • Dries up too fast

    • Reapply often

Packaging

EOS organic lip balm comes in an egg-shaped tube. To open it, you simply twist it counterclockwise. Inside you'll find the little pot of balm on the bottom. I think it's rather cute, if not a little impractical if you happen to be used to carrying lip balms in your pocket.

I bought mine at a big box store, so the packaging might be a little different from the way it arrives from EF. Mine came inside a plastic clamshell attached to a cardboard backing. There was some information on the back, such as ingredients, etc.

This is not a sexual product, so we don't have to worry about its "discreetness." It is most definitely suitable for travel as it's so small, even though as previously mentioned it's more suited to purses and backpacks than pockets.
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Travel friendly
    • Very informative packaging

Follow-up commentary
After finding out I hated this, my husband promised he'd use it. Well, it's been sitting on our kitchen counter since, and I'm probably just going to toss it. What a waste and a shame.

I personally like the stick much better but the flavors are more limited in that one. Thanks for the review.
