O-No! What a Disappointment!

I very rarely rate a product so poorly, but I feel the need to honestly share my experience here. While ONO seemed like a great value, the waxy texture and lack of scent ruined it for me. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because at 16 bucks, it's still a pretty decent value for a natural candle, and it did come in handy during a recent power outage.

Use

The ONO massage candle is a new, budget-friendly product from the Lelo company. At just under $16 for 4.4 ounces, it's a steal compared to some other massage candles. For those who may not know, massage candles are intended to be lit like a regular candle, with the difference that the melted oil is used for massage purposes. Generally these candles are used by couples, but they can also be utilized for self massage. They can be used virtually any time and anywhere. While the ingredients are all-natural and vegan, those with allergies should pay attention to the ingredients list to avoid any reactions:

Glycine soja (soy) wax, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil, perfume (benzyl benzoate, vanillin).

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I'm finding that, depending on the formula, massage candles vary a lot in terms of texture of the oil. While my Jimmy Jane candle is slick and oily, the ONO is much thicker, sticky, and almost waxy. Unlike the Jimmy Jane that absorbs so easily into the skin, ONO's oil tends to hang around on the surface and takes quite a bit of effort to work in. I personally would much rather have my skin be a little oily than for it to feel like I just took a bath in a vat of wax!

There is no pour spout to speak of, so oil ends up dripping all over the container. I understand a spout isn't possible with a round container, but it would have been nice if Lelo had included a plastic spoon as other companies have done.

Taste / Aroma

The scent of the candle is very weak. Generally I don't like things with strong scents, but I'd rather have SOME scent than none at all. You can't smell it in a room when it's burning, unless you get up really close and even then it's faint. As for the smell, it does not smell much like lemongrass to me at all. More like citronella and cough drops. Not horrible, but not exactly my idea of romantic ambience, either. Then again if it were stronger, it would probably be very unpleasant.

Performance

First things first, this candle takes a LONG time to burn. It took about 45 minutes to produce a decent amount of oil for one massage. I took some pictures to show how slowly it burns:

Also, frankly, I don't like the feeling of the oil on my skin. It is so thick and waxy that it kind of ruins it for me. I took some pictures of how it looks on the skin, but it doesn't show the waxiness-you'll have to trust me on that!

Packaging

My favorite thing about the ONO massage candle is the packaging. It is classy, sleek, and I love the color scheme with the black, orange and pink. Unfortunately I threw away the outer box before I could take pictures of it, but I do have some photos of the jar itself for size comparison, next to a 4 oz. bottle of lube.

Included with the candle is an instruction booklet printed in several languages. It is very basic information that most people should already know: keep away from children, extinguish the flame before pouring the oil, and don't try to eat it or get it in your eyes.

Experience

My husband used this to massage me, and he agreed that it's incomparable to our Jimmy Jane candle. Sorry, Lelo, I might try your toys, but I'll skip on your candles!
Follow-up commentary
We have not used the candle since I did the review. It's just pretty much sitting around. It's probably my most disappointing purchase ever.
