extremely useful review
In the plastic storage tube with the Vixen “Off with your head!” vibrator cap is a small yellow instruction sheet. On it is a small drawing of a Hitachi Magic Wand with its plastic head removed, exposing the mechanical guts, was the sentence, “Gently grasp the rim of the Hitachi head with your fingers and pull back in a rotating motion.”

What? They wanted me to disassemble my Hitachi? While I’ve tried other caps that slide over the Hitachi head, getting my fingers under the rim of the cap and ripping it apart seemed to be asking too much of me. What if I didn’t like the new head? How would I ever get it back on?

It took all of my positive experience with other Vixen toys (one word: Goodfella!) to even consider taking Hitachi apart, but I did. One important note here—getting the head off is not as simple as grasping and twisting. When I twisted one way it felt as if the top of the vibe was loosening such that I had to twist it back tight, and grasping “gently” made nothing happen. I finally got a dull knife under the edge of the head and pried it up, grumbling about how someone had better be planning to be me a new Hitachi if this failed.

And, in the best ways, Vixen did buy me a new Hitachi – not the wand itself, but a brand new experience of the vibe.~~ I LOVE THIS TOY! ~~ The buzz of the Hitachi through its regular plastic head would begin to make my skin numb or itchy after a time, but the denser, thicker, more absorbing 100% silicone of Vixen’s cap transfers all of the power with none of the irritation. The smoother surface of the silicone makes the head slide more easily along the vulva and other sensitive skin areas (if you still need lubricant, make sure it is water-based so safe to use with silicone toys). And the silicone, unlike the original plastic head, is non-porous and can be sterilized by being boiled.

But wait – I’ve only so far described the product’s material. The design is also wonderful. The three dense ridges at the front of the cap are a delight against the clit or vulva. While they might seem a bit rigid to the touch, in use they greatly extend the wand’s position possibilities as it can be moved side to side across the labia or from front to back, with the wand held parallel to the body. The ridges give the sensation of fingers moving back and forth over the lips or over the clit. The only drawback, for me, is that I didn’t find the little protrusion/nib on the back to be very useful. It is too small for me to use for clit or nipple stimulation, and pointy enough to interfere with the experience of the rest of the cap being rotated gleefully around my cunt.

I’ve tried other Hitachi caps, the ones that fit over the existing head, and was never impressed. They made the vibe too top heavy, much harder to hold, and never seemed to get the power of the vibe through their various lengths and down to where the action is. This cap is very different, because it transfers the motor’s vibe directly through the silicone.

So I’m glad I conquered my initial resistance (which, humm, is pretty much true of any new sex toy or idea I’ve ever tried) and tried this Vixen cap on for size. Its design is intriguing and pleasing, and it’s made of the safest material around, and it makes a great thing even better – way to go Vixen!
Follow-up commentary
I still love this head, although I've now had the problem of the head coming off. This is very unpleasant, as the metal underneath can get very hot. This has only happened when there was a lot of activity happening around the vibrator, but still... Not sure what to do about this. Suggestions, other users?

But even with this problem, I still prefer this to the original hard plastic head, especially how easy it is to clean and how it muffles the nerve-deadening buzz without reducing the strength of the pulses.
