Phoenix Blood

I'm not disappointed with my purchase, but I'm not thrilled exactly either. I've definitely used better bathing products with healthier ingredients, but I like the fun bottle and the deep red color so it's okay.

Use

This line of products can be used for either shower gel or bubble bath. It comes in six fragrances, each with their own intended purpose (For example, one is for people trying to avoid sweets, another for people trying to have a romantic time.). This particular one is for lifting your spirits.

This is not a sexual product and would make an okay gift for anyone including family members. The one I got would be a particularly nice gesture for someone having a rough time who needs a pick-me-up. Just don't give it to someone who has pristine white towels, cuz' this stuff could really stain!

Ingredients, which you should read before buying to make sure you don't have allergies to any of them or health concerns: Sodium laureth sulfate, deionized water, cocamidopropyl betaine, cocamide MEA, fragrance, phenoxyethanol, glycol distearate, methylparaben, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamont) fruit oil, yellow 5, red 4, red 33.

If you're avoiding parabens and sulfates, stay away from this one. Also avoid it if highly fragranced things are an issue for you.

The Phoenix, color of product
^ Product on hand.

The texture is pretty thick, and it's very shiny as well as bright, bloody red. It doesn't slide around too much when applied to skin, and it's nice and smooth. You really have to rub it between your hands with water to get it to lather up. It's easy to get out of the bottle and not sticky or greasy at all.

Taste / Aroma

The scent seems soapy to me. It has a very clean scent, a bit floral with a hint of citrus and some spicy note that bites my nose every time I sniff it. I would say it's pretty energizing, not exactly relaxing like the packaging implies. It also smells a bit like Play-Dough, which I found odd but not unpleasant.
The website describes the scent of this product as "persimmon plum." I'm not sure how accurate this is, being that I don't go around smelling persimmons and plums on a regular basis.

Since this isn't an edible product, I refrained from tasting it and I advise you to do the same!

Performance

As a shower gel, it wasn't that impressive. I had to use a lot to get suds and feel clean. I was amused in a morbid way by how much it resembled fake stage blood. If you want to bathe in the blood of the, uh, innocent shower gel I guess you will like this product a lot. If you really just love thick, slick shower gels in general, you might like this too but beware it isn't the best I've ever used.

As vibrantly colored as this stuff was though, I was pleasantly surprised that it did all come off my skin with water, leaving no stain behind. That would have been an awkward stain to explain.
I also liked that it washed off very easy and didn't leave my skin sticky or anything. The scent didn't linger either, which was fine since I prefer to add a fragrance after the bath.

As a bubble bath, well, I would rather use less product for the amount of bubbles I got with this stuff. They lasted a long time, but I had to use a lot of the gel in the water for them.

I also noticed that this shower gel is a little drying to my skin, so if you have a problem with dry skin, you might want to skip this.

Packaging

I love the packaging. It's cute, modern, and definitely what got me to try this product in the first place without even knowing what it smelled like yet.

The bottle is six inches tall, three inches across, and about two inches thick. It's clear plastic, showing off the vivid color of the product inside. The front has a mostly clear label that reads "THE PHOENIX (When you need to rise from the ashes- yet again)." I thought that was cute and made me imagine using this product after a bad day or even just a bad hangover. What can I say, I'm a sucker for products that work with my intent to feel better. Underneath the large letters, it says "revitalization bubbles for bath or shower" and Not Soap Radio.

The writing on the back encourages the readers to relax when picking themselves up again, start fresh, and believe in the future. Thanks for the advice, bubble bath. It also has the instructions and says that a portion from this sale will go to 365 Birthdays, a non-profit organization for at-risk children. Pretty sweet!

The dispenser is okay. It hasn't leaked for me yet so I think it would be safe for travel. Just in case, I would wrap it in plastic like Eden did for shipping.

    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

According to the manufacturer's website and the bottle, this body wash is infused with bergamot, which supposedly promotes a good mood, optimism, and confidence.
Follow-up commentary
I still have quite a bit of this left, so I guess that says something good about the quantity of product you need versus how much you get.
Now that I've brought this shower gel along on a trip I like it more. It fits well into the bottom of my haphazard, overstuffed backpack.
