Shave it off, shave it all off!

Evolution of Smooth's Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream is a thick, conditioner-like shaving cream that leaves skin soft and moisturized. While it does contain glycerin and doesn't give me the closest shave possible, it does reduce skin irritation and the fragrance free version is actually completely scentless.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream is similar in consistency to thick body lotion or conditioner. It is very smooth and creamy with no grains, granules or texture at all. A pump of the product will stay in place on skin because of its thickness. What product isn't scraped away with a razor while shaving is easily wiped off the skin and it doesn't leave a sticky or greasy feeling.

Taste / Aroma

The unscented, or fragrance free, version of the Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream is actually completely scentless. I held a pump of the cream right up to my nose and couldn't smell anything at all, so that's definitely a good thing for those highly sensitive to scents or who don't care for the other ones.

As always, this is an external use only product, do not ingest. I didn't taste this, neither should you.

Performance

EOS's Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream is a cream, so it does not lather when applied to the skin. The bottle suggests pumping two or three times, slathering the product thinly over the area to be shaved and then go to town. Generally, two pumps was enough to cover any area I was shaving. After shaving, there wasn't much product left on my skin to clean off, but what was there was easily wiped off with a washcloth. Usually I have to apply lotion after hair removal, but I didn't have to with this product because it did leave my skin feeling very soft and moisturized.

Packaging

The fragrance free version of the Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream comes in a white plastic bottle with blue lettering. The bottle holds 7 fluid ounces of product and is about the size of your average tall can/bottle of shave gel (8 inches high including cap and 1 3/4 inch diameter). The front lists the name of the product and scent. Vertically along the side is the ingredient list, on the bottom of the bottle is printed an expiration date. On the back is a paragraph about the product and brief instructions both in English and French. The bottle is lightweight and fairly squishy with small and large grooves on the front and back to aid in holding the bottle with slippery fingers. Under the transparent cap is a simple pump top.

The bottle is very discreet and doesn't leak, which makes it suitable for travel. You are also encouraged to recycle the bottle when you are done with it.

Experience

I generally prefer shaving gels that foam and lather because I wear glasses, and if I'm shaving in the shower (obviously without my specs on), I like being able to tell exactly where I've shaved and where I haven't. Since EOS's Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream is a conditioner-like shaving cream, it took me a little bit to get used to it.

Frankly, I'm a little on the fence about this product. Regular shaving gels leave my skin itchy and dry when I'm done, but this product left my skin feeling soft and moisturized enough where I didn't need to apply lotion afterward. I even showered and lathered up with a shower gel, and my skin was still soft and not requiring lotion. I'm also one of those women who has to shave their entire leg, and while shaving my bikini area, I also clean up around my asshole. Regular shave gels usually leave this area rough and irritated (mostly because of nicks and taking off quite a bit of skin with the hair) and when showering afterward, my skin stings. This was not the case with the Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream. I didn't nick myself once anywhere and my bikini line and butt area were not irritated. I also didn't need to keep reapplying product to my bikini line or armpits like I usually do.

Now the bad part - this product definitely didn't give me a super close shave like other products do (and trust me, I know close - I use a 5 blade razor). It felt like I had quite a bit of stubble on parts of my legs and armpits, and my bikini line wasn't left as smooth as usual.

Overall, this is an alright product. I like that my naughty bits weren't irritated after shaving, but for the cost of this product, I definitely expected a super close shave which I didn't get. I love that the fragrance free version is completely scentless, but I'll have to see how many uses I get out of the bottle before I decide whether or not that's worth it.
Follow-up commentary
I'm still not that fond of this product. I do like that the unscented version is actually completely scentless, but it doesn't give me a super close shave and the product gunks up my razor. As for protecting my skin from irritation, well, to be honest, I did have less ingrown hairs and irritation than normal. But I can't completely say if the shave cream had anything to do with that other than since it didn't give a close shave, there was less likely a chance of ingrowns happening because they weren't completely shaved close to the skin. Honestly, I'll finish up this bottle, but I won't be buying another one.
