Smells good, but the wash kind of blew it.

Dona body wash is part of a new line of natural and eco-friendly bath and body products from System Jo. They won't break the bank, but sadly the body wash doesn't quite measure up to my favorite (and cheaper) Caress product.

Use

System Jo's new Dona line is natural, eco-friendly, paraban and cruelty free. Each "scent" is named for the aphrodisiac it is infused with, not its actual smell. This product does contain glyercin, so please keep this product away from your naughty bits if you are glyercin sensitive (though fragranced products should be kept away from genitals as well).

The ingredients listed on the Blue Lotus bottle are:
Purified Water (Aqua), Sodium C 14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Saccharide Isomerate, Sodium Chloride, Lycium Barbarum (Goji) berry, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed, Euterpe Oleracea (Açaí) Fruit, Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Fruit, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf, Garcinia Mangostana (Mangosteen) Pericarp Extracts, Propanediol, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Guar Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazone, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The Dona body wash is clear, texture free, and about a medium consistency/thickness. It feels very much like any ordinary medium thickness bath gel or wash. Upon twisting the pump top to release it, a good-sized glob of the product came out with the pump shaft so I suspect that the top isn't very leak-proof. But being a pump bottle, I, like everyone else, would keep this standing upright.

The product pumped easily into my hand, and being medium thickness, it did run somewhat down my palm as was expected. The body wash itself didn't feel sticky or greasy; it performed and felt exactly how you would assume a body wash to feel/perform. Though the label and product page states that the wash is exfoliating, I did not notice anything of the sort.

Taste / Aroma

Trying to describe the scent of the Blue Lotus Dona body wash is a little difficult. As several forum posts, Dona's facebook page, and other reviewers have said, each body wash is named for the aphrodisiac it is infused with not what it actually smells like.

In the bottle, the Blue Lotus scent smells very good. It is not overly floral but there are other smells that I can't quite put my finger on. To me, it honestly smells "green", like flower leaves. It may just be me, but I also detect a very slight ocean-y smell. So imagine shoving your face into some clean and soapy flowers and leaves while standing on the beach. That's the best way I can describe the Blue Lotus scent.

Honestly, it also smells better (and stronger) in the bottle. I could hardly smell this over my L'Oreal cleansing conditioner in the shower (and it's not that strongly scented). Afterward, I could also barely detect the scent on my skin.

As with other body care products, this is for external use only, do not ingest. I didn't taste this — neither should you.

Performance

The Dona body wash performed exactly as it should. It lathered and left my skin squeaky clean; albeit a bit too "squeaky". I would definitely recommend using body butter or lotion after this because it did leave my skin dry.

I personally did have to pump out quite a bit of the product onto my washcloth because it was a low lathering wash. But it rinsed away easily and did not leave my bathtub slick or greasy. I also didn't notice any "aphrodisiac" effects from using the product.

Packaging

The Dona body wash bottle is very pretty! The pump top, 9.5 oz plastic bottle is covered in a dark purple label with a black lace print on it and white lettering. The label states the name of the product, the "scent", ingredient list, brief instructions, and small symbols listing highlights of the product. (Paraban free, cruelty free, natural, petro. deriv. free) The label does say "an aphrodisiac infused ritual" on the front, but if the recipient doesn't mind that, then this would make an excellent gift.
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Recyclable
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

When I first saw the new Dona items, I was beyond excited to try some. I am definitely addicted to bath and body products and I was immediately drawn to the Blue Lotus "flavor" though I had no idea what it would smell like. Because I am a bit scent sensitive, I chose a product that will wash off in case I didn't like the scent or it was too strong. I needn't have worried about that though. The Blue Lotus smells divine! It's hard to describe the scent and it also isn't strong or overpowering. I didn't have any reactions (like headaches) at all during use or after.

I wanted to love this product, I really did. And I expected to, but it honestly falls short in my opinion. As I said, the smell is divine! But it didn't last. Even right after I toweled off, I could barely smell it on my skin. I could only detect a slight "clean" scent. I'm sure adding the corresponding lotion would help.

Speaking of lotion, I would really recommend using some after this. The body wash left my skin a bit dry. Not extremely parched and itchy, but it was noticeably uncomfortable enough where I would have definitely reached for some lotion. The other problem I had with this product was that it was rather low lathering. It did produce some suds, but they were not thick or frothy and "soft" like I like.

If you're looking for something that creates a lot of lather and has a long lasting scent, this isn't it. But I'm not entirely disappointed and this won't deter me from trying the body polish or lotion from Dona in the Blue Lotus scent.
Follow-up commentary
I'm determined not to be wasteful, so I've been using this body wash every single day. While it is still low lathering and the scent doesn't last, it doesn't leave my skin as dry as the first few uses. Though I personally wouldn't purchase another bottle of this, I do like it just a wee bit more than I had originally.
