Smells Good Enough to Eat!

I love this compact. It is yummy-smelling and natural lip balm. Unless you're looking for a very thick and moisturizing balm, this one should suit you just fine.

Use

This is a lip balm, plain and simple. It comes packaged in a small pot similar in size to Carmex lip balm. However, this balm is much more natural and a heck of a lot tastier than Carmex.

For those interested in ingredients, they are as follows: Theobroma cacao, (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Persea gratissima (Avacado) Oil, Olea europaea (Olive) Fruit OIl, Beeswax, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E)

As you can see, the ingredients are all natural. It should be noted that the product is NOT vegan due to the beeswax. Also note that if you are allergic to nuts, cocoa, or avocado, proceed with caution.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

As far as lip balms go (and I should know as I'm a bit of a lip balm addict!) this one is thinner than most. That could be a good or a bad thing, depending on your needs. It's not very emollient, for one thing. So if you need a lot of moisture, this will not provide it. If your lips are not very dry and you just want shine and flavor, it will deliver in that aspect. Also, I've found that some heavily moisturizing balms can feel "thick" or "waxy". Maybe since I don't need the extra moisture. This one is light and sleek. It doesn't produce that white residue that some other balms do.

To apply, you can either use a small makeup brush or your finger. Some might worry that the finger method is not sanitary. If your hands are reasonably clean and you're the only one using it, I don't see much of a problem. I have noticed some debris on the outer rim of the container from hanging out in my purse, but it can be easily wiped off so it's not a big deal.

Taste / Aroma

I've heard the scent of this balm compared to Tootsie rolls and hot chocolate. To me, it smells like Nutella: a gorgeous mixture of chocolate and almonds that is sure to make any mouth water. Yes, I used the word "gorgeous" to describe the scent of a beauty product. It's that good. The intensity of the smell is rather strong, but it doesn't bother me. I think it is probably because it comes from all natural ingredients like cocoa butter rather than chemicals. I decided to give the balm a quick taste, and was somewhat disappointed to find that it tastes like nothing. Guess I'll have to turn to real chocolate for my fix.

Performance

I have to be honest and say that I am somewhat disappointed that this does not last as long as some of my other balms. This makes sense given its thin consistency. I can deal with it not being super emollient, but I wish it would last a bit longer before I have to re-apply. If you drink a lot of liquids or spend a lot of time outdoors in the wind, that will definitely effect how long an application lasts.

The plus side is that it's easy to remove if for some reason you don't like it.

Packaging

The pot is .33 ounce, which is the standard for lip balm pots. It's made of plastic and is presumably recyclable. On the back there is a sticker listing the ingredients in the balm. Both the top and bottom stickers are removable. I have not had it leak, but I would be careful not to let the balm melt because that might cause it to seep out of the container.
    • Does not leak
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Recyclable

Special Features

It does not have any special features beyond smelling like heaven in a jar.

Personal comments

For me, this balm fits my needs perfectly. I don't need a lot of moisture, so just having a little extra shine and the incredible scent is good enough. It's a little expensive at $4.99, but worth it. Just think how much some beauty products cost that are loaded with chemicals and preservatives. While the pot may be small, I know it will last me quite a while.
Follow-up commentary
I still use it regularly and it's one of my favorite lip balms. I just wish it lasted a little longer!
