Super powerful but also super loud--both the vibrator AND me

I'm really glad that I bought this toy. It's incredibly powerful, which can sometimes be too much, but is usually a lot of fun with how quickly it becomes enjoyably intense. It's easy to use and well worth the price since the cord means you won't have to buy batteries forever. Plus, I love its versatility and enjoy that I can use it comfortably both alone and with my partner.

Pros:
Really powerful, plugs into the wall, great for yourself or with a partner.
Cons:
Cord is short, the vibrations are sometimes almost too strong.

Use

The Hitachi Magic Wand is a wonderfully pleasurable toy. It is definitely best suited for clitoral stimulation since it's not at all designed for insertion. It is also marketed as a back massager, so it feels great on sore muscles if that's the case. There isn't really much option for moving it around the clit since the massager head is a really big block of silicone around the vibrating motor. I found that pushing it against yourself allows for a variety of levels of stimulation.

The Hitachi has a pretty long handle, so it's easy to hold on to if you want to use it by yourself or if used in the hands of a partner. My partner and I both found that the stimulation is best focused on my clit when the Hitachi is held with the vibrating side down and the handle part pointing up towards my stomach. Used like this, the vibrator doesn't get in the way of the vagina allowing for easy access for manual stimulation of the g-spot. The Hitachi is too big, however, for me to use while my partner performs oral sex. Since the Hitachi is corded, it was also a little bit awkward getting into a position where both of us were comfortable while also allowing the cord to be plugged into the wall.

I'd also like to add that even though the Hitachi isn't designed for g-spot stimulation, there are still kits and accessories made for the toy that allow for such stimulation. I haven't tried any of them, though, as I'm more than happy enough just enjoying the super powerful and intense vibrations on my clit.

Material / Texture

The Hitachi is made of hypoallergenic, food grade, and phthalates free plastic. The toy itself doesn't give off any smell. It is easy to clean off any of your own fluids that get onto it, and the scent doesn't stay on the material. The handle itself is very stiff, but the vibrating head has some ease to it and bends a little bit which is reassuring when I press it into myself with a lot of pressure.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all
    • Rigid

Design / Shape / Size

Although the Hitachi is a really amazing vibrator, it is kind of intimidating at first due to its sheer size. It's ridiculously enormous and quite a bit heavy. Once I got past these concerns, I found that I really, really, REALLY enjoyed the powerful vibrations. Even though the toy is easy to use, beginners might feel a bit apprehensive due to its intimidation factor as well as its intensity. Also because of the intensity, my entire arm starts to go numb after using the toy for a while, and so does my clit. The Hitachi is very buzzy, and you start to feel that buzz everywhere.

With a 9" handle and 2.5" head diameter, the Hitachi takes up a lot of room. It can't be easily stuffed behind a pillow and is not at all easy to hide away. I store mine in its original packaging and then tuck that under my bed. Furthermore, I don't think that this toy is well-suited for travel, also due to its size. It wouldn't stow easily in an overnight bag and certainly won't fit into my purse.

If I wished that anything about this toy were bigger, it would definitely be the cord which is only six feet long. The Hitachi needs to be plugged into an outlet and that is sometimes made difficult by the rather short cord.
    • Partner play

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Hitachi only has two settings: High and "Low." Even the low setting is ridiculously intense, and the high setting leaves me numb after only a few minutes. I have heard of others using the Hitachi over underwear or a towel to combat this crazy intensity, though I have never tried this. The vibration intensity could be easily described as TOO strong. The speeds are controlled by an easily-manipulated switch in the middle of the handle.

Along with the strong vibrations, the toy is really, really loud and buzzy. If you live alone, it shouldn't be a problem, but I can't use it in my apartment unless all of my roommates are out, even with the TV on loud to try to cover up the sound. The Hitachi is just way too loud to even try to cover the sound. Also, you shouldn't try to cover up the noise with the shower running since the toy is NOT AT ALL waterproof and that would just end disastrously.
    • Easy to use
    • Not discreet at all
    • Powerful

Care and Maintenance

The Hitachi is really easy to care for. After use, I wipe it down with an antibacterial spray (sold by Eden Fantasys) and dry it off. As I said, it is too big for super discreet storage so I store it in its original packaging and stash it under my bed since that's the only place that it will fit.
    • Difficult to store
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

The toy is packaged in a long, rectangular box. Since the Hitachi was originally marketed as a back massager, the photos on the box are of men and women working their sore muscles with the toy. The toy came with some papers about a limited warranty and warnings about not getting the toy wet and not electrocuting yourself. Otherwise, there weren't really any instructions about how to use it, but the toy is self-explanatory anyway.

I found the original box pretty sturdy so I continue to use it as storage for my toy.
    • Good for storage
Follow-up commentary
I'm still very much in love with this toy! At the same time, it still saddens me that I can't use it as often as I would really love to because it is so incredibly loud. It is, by far, the most powerful of all of my vibrators and my go-to when I am looking for something quick and intense. I recently bought some of the attachments that can be used internally, so I'm looking forward to trying those out; but for now, I'm still more than content enjoying the Hitachi clitorally.

This toy just intimidates me. I think it'll be too strong and loud. I'm sorry you can use this only with your roommates out!

Good first review! I'm glad you are enjoying your Hitachi.

I did have to note than when taking an A/C toy like the Hitachi (or the Wahl) on an overnight or a vacation a large make up bag or a small back pack can be used to store them in. which can then be placed into your luggage. Also, remember to bring an extension cord! I recently took ours on an overnight in a hotel, and was so glad I had my extension cord (Nina Hartley said to bring one, woman knows what she says) and it was a good thing, as the socket was not very close to the bed. But, we had the extension cord and so we were happy.

Thanks for the review! I just ordered one, though I'm worried about the loudness because both me and my partner are RAs in a dorm. I figure we'll be using it for back massages half the time anyway, so we can always just tell people that's what we were doing.

  • Good alternative to Hitachi?
    • I had a rechargeable mini fairy wand, but last week it ended up breaking, and now I'm desperately looking for a similar type wand massager. I've looked at a couple, but I'd really like some input on which massager people are recommending. Thanks!
    • I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

Ooh, thanks! Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.

I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

  • Will it be out of stock until the sale is over?
    • Ekk! It is out of stock again! I keep missing it. I finally have enough to buy it but I guess the discount made it sell like crazy. Does it typically not come back in until the sale is over?

Panicing a bit because I'm moving soon and will need to purchase it within the next week.

    • Quote: Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
Probably not for less than fifty dollars. A friend of mine is saving for the Sybian or The Rock Box. I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though. However, if you want something similar to the Hitachi, I would suggest either The Wahl or a Fairy Wand. I own the Hitachi, Wahl, and Fairy Mini but highly suggest the Wahl. It is the most rumbly of the three and is nearly silent.

I think the Hitachi is the strongest vibe i know of.

  • Hitachi Wand Vs. Acyvube
    • Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...
    • I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

We are going on 3+ years on the acuvibe. The shell is starting to crack but it still functions great, I just wanted to know if we should switch when I do want to buy a new one. More powerful sounds good :)

  • The Size !!!!!!!
    • Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
    • In the way of what, exactly? It's not really a toy for couples play and actually it's not even designed for masturbation but has become the Holy Grail of vibrators through decades of word of mouth.
    • Quote: Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
It's really only meant for external use. So if you are talking about insertion it probably would be a bit big.

I don't know if I understand the question, but the attachment we bought for our Hitachi is a "universal" attachment that we bought from another store. It's too "floppy" for me, but is a nice g-spot attachment, or would be if it was a little stiffer!

  • Bullet Vibes that rival the Hitachi Magic Wand
    • Hello, everyone!

Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!

I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.

I was looking at the more expensive clit vibes- JeJoue's MiMi and Lelo's Siri. Do you think that they would be strong enough? Do you recommend anything? Thanks guys!

U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00

Its on a review of mine already..

    • This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax. The Hitachi far exceeds this task, she doesn't use any other toy now, always reaches for the Hitachi. Just need to get her the G-spot attachment and she is set up. Thanks again.
    • I completely agree. The Magic Wand is the best vibrator ever.

  • Have you ever used a wand?
    • HI I was wondering if you have ever used anything like the Fairy Wand? I have used the baby fairy wand but its tiny... the size of the larger ones kind of intimidate me ... what are your thoughts on them and should I get one?
    • I dislike most of them intensely. They're too strong, too big and they make my whole vulva - as well as my hands - feel numb.

      Many folks love them, though!
    • I used the Wanachi Mini, which I really liked. Unfortunately it fell apart, it seems mine wasn't the only one either. I did contact Pipedream though and they seem eager to correct this problem!
