Use

Cake Beauty's Satin Sugar Hair & Body Powder is a great addition to anyone's beauty drawer. This little jar of sweet-smelling powder works wonders to freshen up your hair and body throughout the day, when you don't want to wash your hair, or after taking a trip to the gym. It may be a light powder, but it still packs a punch when it comes to freshening up.

This product comes in two hues: light and dark, so it will work for anyone. The concentrated scent smells feminine and sweet but once applied the scent is so subtle a man could use it without smelling like a baked good. If you have dark hair and light skin (like me!) then the darker formula is for you.

Ingredients: Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Parfum (Fragrance), Caprylyl Glycol, Proylene Glycol, Aqua (Water), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene, Eugenol, Coumarin, Citral

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I was very surprised how light and fluffy this powder is considering the main ingredient is corn starch. It is a concentrated powder is very light once dispensed. It feels lighter than other dry shampoos and body fresheners I have tried. It is comparable to a mineral face powder. It's incredibly velvety!

The powder is easily poured from the canister from either the small slotted shaker slot or the larger circular hole for more product.

When poured onto the skin it feels incredibly light, again much like mineral cosmetic powder. It absorbs quickly and nicely into the skin leaving behind only a very subtle fresh, sweet scent. It stays in place on the skin nicely once gently rubbed into the desired area. No issues with rubbing off onto the clothing here.

When using for hair, you are supposed to sprinkle the product into your hands and rub as evenly as possible into the roots of your hair and run through to the ends. It still feels light and doesn't leave your hair looking dull or powdery like other dry shampoos do. It stays nicely in the hair, making it look fresh and clean with a subtle scent without leaving cakey residue on your scalp.

Taste / Aroma

I loved Satin Sugar enough that the scent is just an added bonus. When smelling the powder concentrated in the canister it smells sweet, subtle, and has lemon and sugar undertones. The scent reminds me of boxed lemon cake mix, but on a much lighter scale. When dispensed onto the skin in still smells fresh but on a much subtler scale. It can really only be detected right after application and the scent is barely there. It does a nice job of eliminating light odors but don't think you can douse this powder under your armpits after a 5 hour work-out session at the gym...you will just end up smelling like lemon-y BO.
    • Light smell
    • Smells good

Performance

I mainly purchased the Satin Sugar to use it as a dry shampoo in between washing my hair. It worked wonderfully. It freshened my hair and removes excess oil without dulling my hair one bit. I also loved that my hair smelled fresh after use. The scent lingered in my hair until I washed it the next day. I didn't feel the need to wash my hair after use, as there was no residue left behind on my scalp and no powdery feel when I touched my hair.

When used on my skin, the product really absorbed nicely and left behind a subtle scent that only lingered for about an hour. However, it does help remove unwanted odors left after working out, or even just a long day.

A factor that should be considered is that the product is very lightly scented, and is really only enough to freshen you up. If you are looking for a strongly scented powder, this is probably not for you. Also keep in mind this is meant to freshen up between showering or bathing - it's not meant to disguise heavy odors or to be poured on your body in mass quantity after you've been sweating profusely. If you are still damp (from sweat or...anything else) dry off or wait to use the powder until you are completely dry as it will clump when it's wet.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural
    • Long lasting

Packaging

Satin Sugar comes in a small (0.50 gram / 1.7 ounce) shaker canister. The lid is sealed and the circular plastic beneath the shakers will need to be popped out. The front features the Cake Beauty logo in light pink and the entire jar is a light brown or pale yellow depending on the hue you chose. It says "Satin Sugar hair and body powder" in English and French. The bottom front says "dry shampoo" in English and French. The side of the label says "Indulge" and on the opposite side it says "approved by beauty junkies". The back label has the instructions for use on hair and body. The bottom shows the ingredients and has their website URL ([link|http://www.cakebeauty.com]).

This shaker hasn't leaked on me in my gym bag or purse yet but just in case I keep it in a small ziplock bag. This is simply a beauty product so the packaging is very cute and discreet. It would make a sweet gift for any beauty gurus or people that frequent the gym.

    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Easy to use / dispense

Thanks for the review, this explains it to me. I was wondering what you would possibly do with "hair" powder!

In fairness, 1.7 oz for something this light is still a decent amount of product (although it's not as much as I think the price calls for, as I have this myself)

    • Could this work like a bronzing powder for lighter skin tones?
    • Quote: Could this work like a bronzing powder for lighter skin tones?
This powder really dissolves once applied to the skin. I have really fair skin and I got the darker hue (I have dark hair) and it didn't tint my skin at all like a bronzer would. So, no, I don't think this could work like a bronzer. Sorry!
    • Why would you want to use this and not a bronzer--less expensive and more effective!
