Happy Hanukkah lip set - lip balm discontinued by Not Soap Radio - review by teachmetouchme

It isn't often I can both review a product and give a little history lesson. HOORAY for the "Happy Hanukkah Lip Set". This kit is sold as a cute gift for girls and women of all ages to celebrate Hanukkah. A similar kit with 12 pots is sold for Christmas.

In the year 165 BCE Judah Maccabee reclaimed the Temple of the 2nd era for the Jewish people. Young Judah was victorious, but after all that fighting his troops were hungry and exhausted. When the final push came, it looked like all was lost. Inside the Temple, a small drop of oil and a place to burn it was found. Everyone expected the oil to last for a short time. A miracle occured and the oil burned for 8 days and nights during which time the army had a chance to rest and regroup and were victorious in saving the Temple and returning it to its rightful place of worship for the Jewish people. So, today we celebrate by lighting candles for 8 nights (the illumination from the oil), eating fried foods (I guess they used some oil to cook), partying and feasting.

According to "Not Soap Radio" these colorful and nicely fragranced products are meant to, "...scrub, condition, moisturize and shine.." your lips, so let's see how they do, point by point. I won't take up time and space listing the ingredients, which you can check in the product description, but I do want to point out that they contain glycerin. Glycerin has gotten a bad rap for intimate lubricants, however, the small amount in these products should not affect anyone. They are topically applied and very little will be systemically absorbed. All of the items are packaged in tiny little "pots" and are applied by scooping a bit with your finger, or other applicater and rubbing on your lips. Very simple.

The first product to be used is the "Brown Sugar Scrub". As the name implies, it contains, smells and tastes like brown sugar. It even has a grainy quality that is the brown sugar which acts to exfoliate dead lip cells. This has an odd, although expected, feeling when used, but that quickly goes away as you rub and rinse. Surprisingly, it did leave my lips feeling smoother.

Next is the "Day/Night Lip Conditioner" which is applied to the exfoliated lips. In the morning it is lightly applied alone to keep the lips from drying due to weather and other environmental variables. It is also used as a base for any coloring you may want to apply (your own or those included in the kit). After a thourough cleasing at night, the conditioner should be applied at bedtime.

During the day you have your choice of breath mint, mango butter or hazelnut cocoa butter lip balms to apply as needed to keep your lips smooth and soft. The mint has a scent and mild minty flavor; the mango butter and hazelnut cocoa butter both have a sweet taste, but I am not sure if they actually taste like mango or nuts and chocolate. The flavors are pleasant but quickly fade once applied. I like that unlike other products to prevent chapped lips that come in a lipstick like form, these do not clump when applied.

The last step is to apply, or not, color to your freshly prepped (kissable) lips. The kit comes with a pot of "super shiny" colorless gloss and a pot of matte (no shine) red color. Once applied the red is very light and natural looking. I recommend using a lip pencil to outline your lips before applying color (to prevent the color from "bleeding") and a lip brush for applying color so that you can more accurately get the color where you want it.

All products do a great job for their intended purpose. That's a 5/5 rating in my book.

The scrub is the loosest of all 8 lip care items and, as mentioned, has a grainy quality. The other pots are soft and solid so that you can swipe your finger across the top and get just the right amount to apply. You don't want so much that your lips look lumpy but you do want enough so that you know you are using something good for your lips. If you leave the tops off, these products will dry out, but if tipped or if they fall they will not drip or leak. If you get some on your clothing, I think they would stain, similar to any other lip products.

Four of the pots have a stronger scent, as expected, than the other 4. The mint is obviously mint, but the mango and hazelnut/cocoa, while having a moderately strong scent, do not (at least to me) smell and/or taste like what the name implies. The scrub does smell and taste like a sweet brown sugar. The remaining 3 pots have a very faint scent and no taste, much like other lip/skin care items being sold today. All scents and flavors fade quickly once applied.

NOTE to guys who love women: Being a sexy, beautiful woman is hard work, but we do it all because you like us and we like you. To be effective, the exfoliate-condition-moisturize-color routine should be done at least twice daily. The moisturize and color phase should be done as needed which will probably be about every 2 hours, particularly in extreme climates. Color is optional. These products are easy to apply and effective, however, if you would skip just a day or 2, you'd be back to square 1. It is similar to hand lotion. As long as you use it consistently and often, your hands are soft and smooth. Stop using the hand cream and you will quickly have that rough, scaly skin back. This product works at least as well as other similar items I have tried and the kit is reasonably priced to boot.

Eight small pots, or jars, of various colorful lip products come in a clear plastic bag with a card inserted which says in bold lettering, "Happy Hanukkah". Each pot has a colorful label itentifying what that pot holds. The card lists all the ingredients and explains how to use each product. Even though (I believe that) each product is self explanatory and simple to use, I like that clear, easy instructions are included. I also like that all the ingredients are listed so that women (or their kissing partners!) with a known sensativity/allergy are aware of what potential hazards lurk beyond.

There is NOTHING blatently sexual about this product, so there is no need for discretion. I would give this as a gift to a young lady as young as 8. I am sure the ingredients are safe for younger girls, but a 4 year old may want to eat the nicely smelling items and although not deadly, I am not sure how they would feel later that day!

I have a warm and fuzzy feeling about this and any item that is not focused on Christianity. We need to remember that not everyone follows the same beliefs and/or practices and everyone should be respected. I overdose on "Merry Christmas" and too many Christmas cards from people who know that we do not celebrate the same holidays they do. Just a comment. The world is made up of multiples of different people, not just Christians and Jews - we need to be more sensative to that. Thank you EdenFantasys for being open enough to carry this product.

If there is 1 item that you like and/or don't like, each item is available on EF in larger, individual containers. You can customize your needs/wants and save money at the same time. Way to go!

I love anything that is easy to use and works as marketed. Proper application requires little time and with the exception of color, can be done with no mirror, making it easy to use on the go. My husband said that my lips were softer and sweeter, but I think he just said that because I asked him (and he knew what the right answer was. After all, what guy would dare say that his partner's lips aren't soft and sweet?
