The Old Classic That Never Fails

The Hitachi Magic Wand is an old cult classic that is certainly deserving of its title. Strong, deep vibrations both provide earthquake-inducing orgasms and relieve your aches and pains. Discreet, and versatile, no one can go wrong the Hitachi Magic Wand.

extremely useful review
Ever since I discovered vibrators, the Hitachi Magic Wand never failed to appear before me in the form of rave reviews. The Caddy of all Vibrators, the Queen, entranced me and I longed for her for three years. The only thing scaring me away from the Hitachi was the price tag; being a college student, I couldn't afford such an expensive vibrator. A few years after I purchased my first vibe, I discovered Eden. I saved up all my points, and finally came the day when I could purchase the legendary Hitachi for myself!

The Hitachi Magic Wand is a white electric-powered massager that resembles a microphone. Twelve inches in length, 6 3/4 inches in circumference, and 2 3/8 inches in diameter, she's one big, heavy vibe! A large, foam, flexible head and a long handle allows for easy maneuverability. She comes in two speeds: the "low" 5000 RPM, and the what I call "OH SWEET JESUS" high 6000 RPM. The settings are controlled by a simple switch. Pushing the switch down activates the low speed, pushing it up activates the high speed. Leaving it in the middle, or in neutral, turns and leaves it off. The cord is not too long, about six feet in length, so those who don't have beds near an outlet should look into getting an extension cord.

I'll start with the cons first: the Hitachi is LOUD. If you don't live alone, you WILL need to blast your TV or some music to cover up the noise, and/or run a fan. Covering up the Hitachi with a thick layer of blankets and shutting the door won't cut it. I know; I turned it on in the low setting, covered it up with all my blankets, and left the room and shut the door. I could hear it buzzing away from outside the door. So, there's no discretion when it comes to sound. Also, like I mentioned above, the cord is not too long. Some may need to use an extension cord with it. Being an electric-powered vibe, the Hitachi is NOT WATERPROOF. Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, even let her near water! Electrocution can be FATAL. One last con (that will also be mentioned in the pros) is that the Hitachi is STRONG. Very strong. I've got a clit o' steel myself, but for at least a week after using the Hitachi, no other vibe can get me off. For those with extremely sensitive clits, I'd maybe look elsewhere, or at least put something between your labia and the tennis ball-head to reduce the vibration strength. I actually use it with my clothes on. One last con: it tends to get warm after extended use, but that's never a problem for me because it gets me off in less than five minutes flat.

Now for the pros: it's strong! The Hitachi produces some of the strongest orgasms I've ever had and it's one of the only two toys to have ever made me squirt (I've only ever squirted from clitoral stimulation). The Hitachi never fails to leave me gasping and shaking after a round of solo fun. Second, there's no need for batteries. You won't have to worry about the vibrations decreasing as the batteries drain. No more spending money on batteries or having to steal from the TV remote. The Hitachi produces strong, unwavering vibrations through its electric power. Third, it can be used all over the body for aches and pains. And fourth, it's discreet in looks. You can leave this out and not get a raised eyebrow. When I first got this, my little cousin said, "It looks like a microphone," and then proceeded to grab it and start singing into it. So funny!

The packaging is also discreet. There's a woman on the box demonstrating use on her shoulder, but nothing about it even hints that it can be used as a standard clitoral vibrator. I wouldn't use it for gift packaging, though. I'd put this in a nice gift box with a nice bow. A toy of such power deserves special treatment.

Cleaning is rather easy. I use a toy wipe on the foam after every use, and it works perfectly. DO NOT put it under running water, even when it's unplugged. Use a wipe or an alcohol swab. It's all you need to keep it clean. Storage-wise, this can be kept in a drawer, or you can store it in its original packaging. As I've said before, it can be left out unassumingly. Just keep it out of reach of children and/or pets. For traveling, I wouldn't advise it, at least for overseas. The Hitachi is not meant for use outside the U.S., and it's not covered by warranty when used with a voltage converter.
Experience
I have leg, back, and hip pain, and so when I purchased the Hitachi, it wasn't just for "creative" fun. The deep, throbbing vibrations penetrate right through tissue and deep down into the muscles, working out any kinks you may have. Five minutes on a sore spot and the pain is gone. It's absolutely wonderful to have a toy that not only produces earth-shattering orgasms, but helps quell my pain. I can safely say that the Hitachi is worth every single penny, and I look forward to using it for many years to come.

One last note: I haven't tried any of the attachments for it, but the Gee-Whiz look promising. I plan on purchasing it someday.
Follow-up commentary
There's no way I could ever stop liking my Hitachi...but a week ago, it broke! The plug got bent (I have no idea how), so it's completely unusable. I actually cried a bit, and I'm still pretty upset. I guess that right there shows you just how much I loved my Hitachi if my earlier review didn't do it for you. I'm going to have to save up all my Eden points so I can eventually afford a new one. To everyone who is considering buying one or has just bought one: be VERY careful with the plug. Other than that, the Hitachi will last you a long time. I definitely plan on buying a new one!

Great review on a classic toy. I'm glad it also works on your sore muscles. I use it on my hubby's back from time to time and it works wonders.

@kendra: Yes, buy one! You won't be disappointed! And I think you'd get free shipping for it, and I think the 20% off 'MAGIC' code can still be used.

Fantastic Review; I really want one of these, but "was" sensitive to vibrations so I stayed clear for a while. Now my body's becoming used to vibrators and it takes more power to get me where I want to go. I think I'm going to have to get this at some point. If all else fails I can use it for a back massager b/c my hubby suffers pain.

  • Good alternative to Hitachi?
    • I had a rechargeable mini fairy wand, but last week it ended up breaking, and now I'm desperately looking for a similar type wand massager. I've looked at a couple, but I'd really like some input on which massager people are recommending. Thanks!
    • I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

Ooh, thanks! Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.

I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

  • Will it be out of stock until the sale is over?
    • Ekk! It is out of stock again! I keep missing it. I finally have enough to buy it but I guess the discount made it sell like crazy. Does it typically not come back in until the sale is over?

Panicing a bit because I'm moving soon and will need to purchase it within the next week.
    • You can open a support ticket from your account dashboard to ask about it. If they know when it'll be coming in they'll be happy to tell you.

  • Strength
    • Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
    • Quote: Are there any stronger vibrators out there?
Probably not for less than fifty dollars. A friend of mine is saving for the Sybian or The Rock Box. I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though. However, if you want something similar to the Hitachi, I would suggest either The Wahl or a Fairy Wand. I own the Hitachi, Wahl, and Fairy Mini but highly suggest the Wahl. It is the most rumbly of the three and is nearly silent.

I think the Hitachi is the strongest vibe i know of.

  • Hitachi Wand Vs. Acyvube
    • Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...
    • I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

We are going on 3+ years on the acuvibe. The shell is starting to crack but it still functions great, I just wanted to know if we should switch when I do want to buy a new one. More powerful sounds good :)

  • The Size !!!!!!!
    • Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
    • In the way of what, exactly? It's not really a toy for couples play and actually it's not even designed for masturbation but has become the Holy Grail of vibrators through decades of word of mouth.
    • Quote: Does the size get in the way ??????? It's so BIGGGGGG........
It's really only meant for external use. So if you are talking about insertion it probably would be a bit big.

    • Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
    • There are a few. If you search the site you can find a couple.
    • Quote: Is there a head set for universal attatchments anyone knows of?
I don't know if I understand the question, but the attachment we bought for our Hitachi is a "universal" attachment that we bought from another store. It's too "floppy" for me, but is a nice g-spot attachment, or would be if it was a little stiffer!

  • Bullet Vibes that rival the Hitachi Magic Wand
    • Hello, everyone!

Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!

I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.

I was looking at the more expensive clit vibes- JeJoue's MiMi and Lelo's Siri. Do you think that they would be strong enough? Do you recommend anything? Thanks guys!

U had the flexi anal rod prior to the Hitachi..It is strong as well, and it probably right between the hitachi hi and low... I actually prefer the two setting on Hitach..SHIT and OHH SHIT.. The flexi rod has about 4 if i'm not mistaken..Plus it is flexible as well.. Costs about 25.00

Its on a review of mine already..

  • Hitachi
    • This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax. The Hitachi far exceeds this task, she doesn't use any other toy now, always reaches for the Hitachi. Just need to get her the G-spot attachment and she is set up. Thanks again.
    • I completely agree. The Magic Wand is the best vibrator ever.

  • Have you ever used a wand?
    • HI I was wondering if you have ever used anything like the Fairy Wand? I have used the baby fairy wand but its tiny... the size of the larger ones kind of intimidate me ... what are your thoughts on them and should I get one?
    • I dislike most of them intensely. They're too strong, too big and they make my whole vulva - as well as my hands - feel numb.

      Many folks love them, though!
    • I used the Wanachi Mini, which I really liked. Unfortunately it fell apart, it seems mine wasn't the only one either. I did contact Pipedream though and they seem eager to correct this problem!
