The Hitachi Magic Wand vibrator is heralded as one of the best, if not the best, vibrators of all time for women. With that in mind, both my wife's and my expectations were very high when we purchased this. So did the Hitachi deliver? Almost too much, actually.

This toy can be used as a massager for the entire body, as it produces incredibly strong vibrations. But, as we all know, the reason most end up purchasing this is for use in specific areas, such as the clitoris. It can be used both as a solo toy as well as a couple toy.

The Hitachi is odorless, completely latex and phthalates free, and is made of plastic. The entire handle of the massager is solid, hard plastic, while the head is softer but still quite firm. The handle is completely smooth, and the head has a subtle texture to it. It's not rough, but it isn't totally smooth. There is a small lip around the entire base of the head that allows for attachments to be added on if desired.

In all honesty, the visual aspect of the design of the Hitachi leaves a bit to be desired. At first glance, it is very obvious to see that this massager was designed in the 70s and has kept the same look even until now. Having said that, it is essential to remember the primary reason for sex toys. If only looks determined whether or not I were to buy a toy, my collection would be very limited, and would not include some of my favorite items. The dimensions are as follows:

Those who are unaware of the multiple uses for the Hitachi may just see a simple body massager if they saw this lying around in the bedroom. However, due to its popularity, many are aware of the additional uses for this wand, so this may be something to keep in mind if you are planning on leaving this out in the open. It is, without a doubt, much more discreet than most sex toys, though.

Though I haven't yet tried to travel with this, I'd say that it would probably be a bit of a pain, unless you have ample space in your luggage. After using this thing, you may just decide it's worthy of leaving some extra space when you're packing.

The Hitachi doesn't operate on batteries, but rather is plugged into an outlet and powered in this way. This is helpful, as I'm sure that this beast would eat through batteries like crazy due to the incredible power that it produces.

The vibrations are located completely within the head of the wand. It features two settings, which could very accurately be described as "OH..." and "OHHHHH!", but are technically referred to as 5000 rpm and 6000 rpm. These settings are each constant vibrations, with no fluctuations, pulsations, etc. This is one thing that I appreciate about the Hitachi. It's very simple and to the point. These two settings are controlled using a simple power switch that is located on the handle. When in the middle position, the wand is off, while up and down correspond to the two settings.

One downside is that this thing is undeniably loud. It's a small price to pay for the sheer intensity of vibrations that it offers, though. Just make sure to keep this in mind if you're living with others and not wanting to draw attention to your sessions.

The Hitachi wand is not waterproof, though the fact that it needs to be plugged into the wall should be a dead giveaway to this.

Cleaning the Hitachi is a fairly easy process, but some special care is required. Because the Hitachi is not totally waterproof, I usually just rinse the head with some warm water and soap, but keep any water away from the neck region of it, as I don't want any water to seep into the inside of the massager. An alternative is to use some toy wipes and just clean the head region of the massager after use. I have read that the covering of the head can be removed for even more extensive cleaning, but I have yet to try this as I have been told that it is quite difficult to put back on. So far, I have had no need to do this.

As the head is plastic, both water-based and silicone-based lubes can safely be used with it. As for storage, we have just been keeping it in our drawer, not packaged in anything.

The Hitachi comes packaged in a simple cardboard box that displays a picture of the massager on the outside, as well as some pictures of people using the massager on "kosher" parts of their bodies. On the inside is a simple instruction manual, and of course, the Hitachi wand.

If you'd like, you can use the original box for storage. However, as I previously mentioned, my wife and I just store the Hitachi in the open in our drawer.

The fact that the Hitachi uses a power cord is both a blessing and a curse. It's great not having to worry about batteries, but the length of the cord can sometimes be irritating, especially when trying to move around in bed. We've found that we have to stay closer toward the edge of the bed in order for the Hitachi to reach. It isn't the end of the world, but it does get to be slightly frustrating every now and then.

At times, the incredible power of the Hitachi is almost too much for my wife to handle. This is a pretty great "problem" to have, though, as it's far easier to choose a different toy that may be more tame if she's not in the mood for this, than to be begging for something that is more powerful.

When we tried out our new Hitachi for the first time, my wife and I didn't quite know what to expect. We were both very much aware of the massager's reputation, but I don't think either of us were actually prepared for just how powerful it was.
