It is made of plastic and has a safety rating of eight. The texture is smooth. The safety features of the Hitachi Magic Wand: made of food grade material, is latex-free, phthalates-free, and hypoallergenic. Its function is to vibrate; it has two speeds, low (5000 rpms) and high (6000 rpms), and they are powerful. The power source is 110-120 volts. The control type is a power switch and it is powered by an electric cord which is 6' long. The color is white and is 12" long has a circumfrance of 6 3/4" and a tennis ball size head that has a diameter of 2 3/8".
WARNING: This product can only be used with a U.S. electric circuit. When used through an adapter with non-U.S. power circuit, it is not covered by the warranty.
This massager requires NO batteries, which is a major plus for me as it is used a heck of a lot. The cord is long enough that I can lay in the middle of my king size bed and have plenty of give. It is soft and somewhat flexible, so when I use it on my clit, it does not hurt. It weighs around two pounds, so I am able to use it by myself. I recommend that you start out at a low speed and build up to high. I have a hard time having an orgasm clitorally, and with the Hitachi Magic Wand, it has been made it possible for me to do so. I find it very soothing and the build up is wonderful. It gives me the most wonderful orgasms in the world, I get multiple and VERY long lasting ones as well. Men like to use it as well. My partner uses it on his shaft and head; it gives him intense orgasms.

Good alternative to Hitachi?

I had a rechargeable mini fairy wand, but last week it ended up breaking, and now I'm desperately looking for a similar type wand massager. I've looked at a couple, but I'd really like some input on which massager people are recommending. Thanks!

I have 3 wand massagers that I use at times. There are things I love and hate about all of them. The hitachi is the most powerful one, but it is so loud! The Wahl 2 speed is also great. It is the quietest and I love how rumbly the vibes are! But none of the attachments are quite right for me. If I could only have one wand I would get Inspire. It has a button that you press and release when the power is at your desired strength. In stead of just 2 speeds like the hitachi or the wahl you have control over how much power you want to use. The Inspire has a detachable silicone head. My complaints are that it gets hot after about 20 minutes, at at the higher speeds it gets pretty loud. Your toy was rechargable, but the wands I listed all plug in and have more power. Good luck with your replacement!

Yeah, the rechargeable wands tend to get really hot too, plus it would die after 20-30 minutes, so I needed to stay near an outlet at all times. Noise isn't really an issue for me (at least not right now). The one I had before had an adjustable wheel for vibration intensity, but to be honest, I always turned it all the way up and never changed it, so maybe I don't really need adjustable speeds.
I've never tried any of the detachable heads. Are they worth buying?

I can't speak from experience about either of those vibrators though. However, if you want something similar to the Hitachi, I would suggest either The Wahl or a Fairy Wand. I own the Hitachi, Wahl, and Fairy Mini but highly suggest the Wahl. It is the most rumbly of the three and is nearly silent.

Is the hitachi better than the acuvibe for anyone who has had the chance to try both? I'm under the impression that they are essentially the same thing but maybe I'm wrong...

I have had both, and they are really both very good toys. The main difference really is that the Acuvibe is rechargeable and can be used cordless, while the Hitachi must plug in to work. Personally, I think that the Hitachi is slightly stronger, and it has definitely outlasted my Acuvibes - I have had two, and they both broke down after about six months or so.

Recently I've sold my Hitachi to a friend, and I've been on the market for a new clit vibe. I'm one of those girls who has a "clit-o-steel&quo t;, so I can't really get off unless I have something powerful on my clit. I bought a LAYAspot by FunFactory, thinking it would be a nice, powerful bullet to use when I'm with my partner, and I realized that it barely even packs a punch!
I guess I'm being a bit picky. I don't want something that's as strong as the Hitachi's HIGH setting, but something kind of inbetween the two, one that has a few nice, strong modes.

This is by far the best purchase I've made. My wife has a tough time reaching orgasm and needs the intense vibrations for her to climax.
