Use

This candle both looks and smells wonderful, but also serves a lovely function in the bedroom. It melts into oil that can be poured onto the skin or applied with the included brush. This is wonderful for use solo or with a partner. It can be used with massage aid (stones, wands, etc) or with bare hands. The product can even be used as a lotion as well. This candle helps set the mood as well as getting in on the action.

Since the product contains wax, it is for external use only. It is also advertised by Jimmyjane to contain no nasties such as phthalates, sulfates, lead, paraffin, or petrochemicals. It also does not contain animal products or use animal testing so it is a nice vegan product.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The candle, when not lit, is not a hard wax. It is very soft and is almost like a balm. It melts very slightly with body temperature and you can pick some up when running your fingers across it. It reminds me of those lip balms that come in a tin, although not as sticky.

Melted, the candle is a very runny oil. It is incredibly slick and smooth. Because of how runny it is, it is advisable to use the included brush for mess free application. The oil sticks nicely to the brush and transfers well to the skin.

When rubbed into the skin fully the oil is neither greasy nor sticky, though if you do not rub it in fully it is a bit greasy. It is more of a moisturizer when rubbed in, due to many of the ingredients dual function as skincare products. The candle contains jojoba, shea butter, vitamin E, soy, and aloe. All of these products are also used for general skin care products.

Taste / Aroma

As the title suggests, I have the Fig Leaf scented candles. The smell is very strong and is unisex, although if you try to use this as a solid perfume, the fragrance does not last long. It is a layered smell. It is not fruity or sweet. It reminds me of winter, as it has the warmness of wintery scents. It simply smells sensual. The scent is great for getting in the mood for solo or play with your partner. As far as taste is concerned, it tastes like it smells. If you have ever had perfume in your mouth, it tastes very much like that. It is not very pleasant nor mild.
    • Smells good
    • Strong smell

Performance

The candle performs well. The smell is strong enough to be noticed but weak enough as to not overpower. A little goes a long way in a massage, and does not need super frequent reapplication. The oil takes a bit of work to rub completely in, but that work is worth it for the luxurious moisturized feel.

If it does not get rubbed in all the way, a shower with soap and water is good to wash it off. Because it is oily, more than just water is needed for cleanup. A nice soap will do the job just fine though.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Feels natural

Packaging

The candle comes packed in a small, simple cardboard box. It was discreet enough for me to leave out in my living room in plain view of my parents. Inside the box is the candle, a brush and some matches (my box was much smaller than the ones pictured on the product page). There is also a pamphlet that has other Jimmyjane products in it. The candle arrives with an adhesive film covering over the top of the candle. Maybe to prevent leakage? It didn’t work so well for that though during the shipment of one of my candles. The packaging can be tossed as the glass candle holder is suitable enough for storage (or leaving out in your living area).
    • Minimal
    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

If you plan on ordering this candle, do not do so during a heat wave or be aware that it probably will melt. The wax has a low melting point and melts at low heat. I ordered two of these candles and one arrived during a 80-90F average week. The candle arrived melted all over the packaging and half of it is gone as a result.

  • Jimmy Jane Afterglow candles- Best Scent?
    • what's the best Jimmy Jane afterglow scent? or the better ones?
    • Well, first off, there are lots of threads on the scent of these candles already. But ignoring that, I think it's really up to your preference in smell.

In my experience, all the scents are fairly high quality, so it just depends on what you like. I personally favor the Dark Vanilla and Bourbon scents. My good friend prefers the Water Cucumber, while it is totally not for me. Some people love the Truffle Gardenia, but it's comparatively very floral. I would really like to try the Vetiver Honey in the ember series.

My recommendation would be to go with what is most similar to your usual favorite scent. Sweet edibles? Masculine spices? Flowers? Citrus? Or you could always try the sampler. More expensive but awesome :-)

Thank you for replying! I have read quite a few posts on the scents, but I'm still indecisive.

The special edition scents look tempting, but I would also like to make sure I purchase something both my partner and I would like. Also I kind of wanted to get a general sense of what is most widely liked. Which I feel I could have gotten with a poll, but unfortunately I am not sure how to do that. I did see a post explaining that to post a poll it the option is next to the post discussion option, but I have seen no such poll option.

  • Can you describe the scents of the Afterglow massage candles from Jimmyjane?
    • If your own words and from your own personal experience can you please describe what the different scents are like? I'm having trouble deciding on which ones to get. Thanks! =]
    • I did a review on the Afterglow Sampler set, but this is what I have with the scents.

Cucumber Water smells like a crisp, clear, watered down version of a cucumber melon scent, and is quite possibly my favorite. Pink Lotus has a decidedly floral scent to it; not overpowering but definitely there. It's hard to pinpoint anything more specific than "floral" for me on that one. Truffle + Gardenia (the special edition one, also available as a regular Ember candle) is also hard for me to pinpoint. It smells like an earthy floral to me, a more involved scent. Bourbon smells sweet to me, almost like molasses or something else I'd bake with. Dark Vanilla still smells like a generic "vanilla cookie" scent to me. And Grapefruit. To me, there's a hint of citrus and a whole lot more of something I can't put my finger on. When I first smelled it I thought back to the Habanero + Grapefruit mini Ember I have, only this is a little less spicy to the nose. JJ claims notes of grapefruit, bell peppers, and mandarin for this one.
    • Thanks! I think the ones I want to try most are Dark Vanilla, Cucumber Water, and the Truffle Gardenia... and the Bourbon. Jeez I want to smell them all. Choosing which to buy online is difficult but I'm sure whichever one I choose I'll love it anyway. =]

  • Afterglow Packaging
    • I was just curious - Jimmyjane has changed the style of the Afterglow candle to the "pour spout" that's rocked by the Ember. Is EF still selling the old style with the brush as indicated by the picture?

FYI I'm in favor of the pour divot format!
    • This is something I'd like to know, too. *Bump*
    • The new version features a spout for easy pouring and that is what currently available on EF.
