Tantric candle - body massage candle discontinued by Cal Exotics - review by DixieDoo

The Tantric candle is made of soy wax which allows it to burn at a lower temperature than a regular candle. The wax is made to burn just a few degrees higher than the body temperature for a nice warm feeling without any burning or pain. The wax is used to give massages. So, why not use an oil? I like using massage candles because they give you an immediate warmth, a slight sting at the first touch (the anticipation is great!), it makes the room you are giving the massage in smell wonderful, and it helps create a romantic environment even if you are not a romantic.

If you have ever had real candle wax (from a non-massage candle) then you know the weight of the wax. This is much lighter than regular wax, but it does solidify on the skin quickly like normal candle wax. The wax on my hand below was dropped immediately before I took the picture. As you can see, it looks pretty solid. If you have used a massage candle before, then you are aware that (for the most part) unlike regular wax, massage wax hits the skin as an oily consistency at first then slowly begins to "form" into the solidified wax texture. This is not the case with the Tantric candle. When I dropped the wax onto my hand I was worried that the wax would not rub in easily based on the fact that it solidified quicker than other massage waxes. As soon as I started rubbing it, it eased onto my skin perfectly.

The passion fruit smells amazing, it is very fragrant yet is not overwhelming. The best way I can describe the scent is to say it smells like fruit punch.

Unlike most massage candles, (where wax hits the skin as an oil consistency then slowly begins to form into a solidified wax texture) the Tantric wax solidified faster than other massage waxes. I was worried that the wax would not rub in easily based on the consistency but, thankfully, as soon as I began to rub in onto my skin I realized it was not quite as solid as I thought it would be (based on its appearance).

I was somewhat irritated at the fact that I spent the money I did on this candle only to get a wonderful smelling candle with wax that is not hot enough to appease me. I love massage candles because I love the anticipation of that first little sting you feel when the first drop of wax makes contact with your skin. I was sad when there I did not get to experience that little sting that I enjoy so much. The wax is not hot enough for my taste and, based on that, I would not spend another $22 for a nice smelling candle.

The one thing I hate about this candle is trying to pour it. Since the container is round, when you pour it, it seems to go everywhere on the rim leaving a wide margin of waxy canister. After pouring it, some of the wax drips down the side of the container which makes a bit of a mess. Yes, I realize a candle will do that; however, it would have been nice if the container design would have had a spout of some sort to help eliminate the mess. For example, the Afterglow Massage Candle is designed in a square format and a slight spout on one corner. This would have been ideal to have.

I did have to re-apply the wax several times as the wax seemed to either dry or absorb into the skin. Clean up was easy, I just used a wet (hot) wash cloth to gently rubbed it over the areas I used the wax on. Clean up on the container consisted of a few wipes of the wash cloth on the waxy areas. I was sad to see how much wax was wasted just hanging on the side of the tin.

The candle has a 60 hour burn time.

The top of the tin simply says the name of the brand (Cal Exotics) and the name is the candle (Tantric). The whole of the container is black and does not have any writing or otherwise on it. Overall, very plain and effective.
