Vanilla? More like Musk.

I feel like "Musk" needs to be in the name of this scent. It has more of a musky scent than a vanilla scent, which is deceiving. If you are expecting something that smells even faintly like baked goods, this isn't it. Though it's not quite sweet smelling, it can be fairly overpowering. Otherwise a great product it seems, if not for the scent.

Use

This massage candle would be great for couples. If you're looking for something to add a little lubrication to a massage, and want to moisturize your skin while you do it, this candle is for you. This would make a nice addition to foreplay, but only for massaging into the skin; it should not be used as a lube or anything else. It's not edible, and should only be used externally. Since the candle itself is in an all-white holder, this could make it a nice addition to a bridal basket. I'm not sure how the oil from the candle would work in a bath, if melted, but you could try it.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

If you run your finger across the wax before it is melted, it has a smooth, slick feeling to it. It sort of will melt across your finger a little, leaving an oily feeling. When rubbed in, it will not really leave you feeling slippery, but it will leave the scent behind. It seems to absorb into skin pretty well. There's no real texture to it, it's just a smooth and even oily consistency.

Taste / Aroma

Okay...the scent. This is the second massage candle that I got from Eden Fantasys that looked great and I'd had my eye on it for a while, and the scent disappointed me.

When I originally got this candle, I had it sitting out by my bed. Eventually I had to move it, since the smell was a bit too strong for me, and without ever having lit it my whole room seemed to smell of it. That quality seems to have faded. It's been sitting back in that same spot for a while now, and I don't notice the smell when I'm in my room or in my bed, unless I'm close to the candle.

The smell of this candle can be a bit overwhelming to me, though I am very particular about (and sensitive to) scents. I would describe the scent as a masculine version of vanilla, at best. It's not really sweet, nothing like cookies or candy. It doesn't smell like vanilla extract either. Actually, it's kind of musky. I'm not a big fan of musky scents. Actually, if you were to hand me this candle and ask me what it smells like, without telling me the name of the scent, I would probably not say vanilla. Maybe, faintly, of vanilla. Faintly. There are a lot of different vanilla scents out there, some sweet, some strong, some light, some smell natural, some smell sugary and artificial. This isn't really like any of them, not really at all. It is pretty much a musk scent. If you like that sort of thing, you'd like this. I'm not a big fan of musk scents, so I had trouble trying to bring myself to use this. My partner wasn't too fond of the scent either, but we both prefer the smell of this to the Bwarm Fig Wood candle. Still, neither of us really wanted this scent on our skin either. I definitely haven't wanted to light it since I had issue with the scent filling my room when I first got it and left it out of the box. I figure it I lit it, it would be a lot I'm thinking maybe if I got it in another scent I might like it more. Cucumber Water sounds like it would be clean, light and fresh...but then again, I thought this would be a lot of possible things, and it's none of them.

If you even run your finger across the unmelted wax, the scent is strong and will stay on your finger. It lingers for a while, so be prepared to smell like this for the night if you use it for a massage. This is another product that neither my partner nor I were too keen on the idea of. I didn't want the scent stuck on my hands if I used it on him, and he didn't want it on his body. Which is too bad, because the consistency of it seems nice, and it's moisturizing. Plus, the packaging is pretty sleek and appealing.

Performance

As I said, this absorbs quite nicely into skin. It won't leave your skin feeling oily or gross, like some massage products can. If you don't use too much, there shouldn't be excess, which would reduce a mess or need to clean up extra oil. It feels nice on the skin, but the smell is the big problem for me and my partner. The effects of the wax last long..but so does the scent. Because of that, you might want to wash it off with soap and water. We don't like the scent, so for that reason, I would not want it on my skin. And, as I said, the scent lingers. The quality of the wax itself is great though. It seems to perform well, if you get it on your skin. I can't really get past the scent with this one, which is sad. I'm tempted to try another scent, but I'm not sure given the price and how long I waited to try one of these. Still, aside from the scent it seems to be a quality product, in a nice white holder. If JimmyJane made and unscented candle, I'd probably be all over it. I'd prefer more light and natural smells to this. Because of all of this, I'm giving it two stars, rather than one. I can't use it smelling as it does, it bothers me too much. But, in another scent, this would be a lovely product.

Packaging

This came packaged wrapped in plastic, to prevent any possibly leakage, I would imagine. Inside of that, it is in a paperboard box. The box is pretty sleek and simple looking, which I appreciate. It is all white and gray on the outside, with bright pink on the inside when you open it. The outside of the box has an ingredients list on it, which I also like. It does include aloe, which some people are allergic to. If you recognize any of the other ingredients as allergens, I would advise against using it. I think that between the box, and the white holder that the wax is set into it, this would make a nice gift.

Included in the box was a small booklet, with info on the candle in various languages. This includes info on how to best use the candle, ad warnings on fire hazards, burns, and use of the candle.

The wax is set into a sleek, white holder. It isn't a candle that can be taken out, it is set in. It is white all over, and pretty discreet. It is white all over, except for a silvery abstract logo in one of the bottom corners, which says JimmyJane beneath it. Nothing about it looks overly sexy, it looks very clean and simple in design. It doesn't really look like a sensual product, so nobody will know unless they know of JimmyJane. Or, if they look at the bottom and see "Natural Massage Oil Candle". I like that one of the four corners of the holder is tapered in such a way that it is like a tiny spout. This is to make pouring the wax an easier process, more precise and less messy when compared to other massage candle designs.

    • Does not leak
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Would make a nice gift
Follow-up commentary
Got rid of this candle. I didn't like the smell, neither did my partner. We couldn't handle it, too sensitive.

I'm actually more interested since you say it smells musky. My favorite body lotion has musk mixed in with rose and violet. The musk softens what I would otherwise find to flowery sweet.
