Vibrating Va-Va-VoomThe Hitachi, while initially intimidating, is the most easy-to-use toy I've ever encountered. It works great as both a clitoral stimulator and as a massager--no wonder women have been singing its praises for years!
Incredibly powerful, easy to use, great for massage
Super noisy, heavy, large
Although originally marketed as a massager, the Hitachi wand is also a great clitoral vibrator. The strong vibrations it produces can lead to quick, incredibly intense orgasms. Although I wouldn't recommend this powerful toy for a beginner, it is definitely guaranteed to satisfy any woman who likes strong clitoral vibrations. However, the Hitachi is also great at its intended use as a massage tool. Because it is so easy to use, its great for couples massages, as well as solo relaxation. The only issue I've had with it is that, because it is so large, it is difficult to reach the middle of my back with the vibrating head.
The wand itself is made of hard plastic, while the head is a softer, slightly porous plastic. It does not emit any type of smell, and the head has a very light bumpy texture to the touch. Combined with the powerful vibrations, this texture serves to stimulate the area, and is also hypo-allergenic and easy to clean.
The wand is rather large, at a little over 9" long. Although it does have an attached electrical cord, it's a very long 55", which hasn't caused me any problems as of yet. The head of the Hitachi is roughly 2 1/4" each way, which provides a large surface area for stimulation. Because of the large size of the toy, it is also fairly heavy. This might seem intimidating, but it is very easy to handle regardless. Perhaps the only major issue I have with its size is that it is much too large for travelling discreetly, although you could definitely pass it off as a hair tool in a straightener sleeve if you had the room!
There are only two speeds on the Hitachi: low and high. However, as the vibrations are intended to work for a massage as well, when used as a clitoral stimulant, the speeds are more like very high and incredibly high. The flip switch is located on the side and is very easy to use. One major downfall of the Hitachi is the amount of noise it makes--it can definitely be heard in all areas of my apartment when I turn it on, which is why I don't recommend it for dorm life or a small apartment (at least, when other people are home). This toy is definitely not waterproof, as it plugs into an electrical outlet. There are several labels that warn the user about getting the toy wet, so definitely do not use this toy in the shower or tub, ever.
As with any toy, you should make sure to clean the Hitachi after every use. Because it is porous, I would recommend getting a cover for it to make clean-up easier. It is possible to take the porous outside head off of the wand, but removing and replacing it the first time might be a little difficult. The head can be cleaned with soap and water or wipes, but make sure you're holding it upside-down to avoid getting any water on the body/plug of the toy. Another important aspect of maintenance is storage. The Hitachi is very large, so it might not fit in your toy box if you have one. I like to keep mine in the box it was packaged in, just to keep it from getting dirty, even though the box isn't very discreet.
