This is a lovely line of high-quality massage candles that are a great choice for a gift due to the lovely packaging. They can be used as just a candle to scent your home, or to light and use as a massage oil once the candle wax has melted. The candle oil will moisturize and soften skin where it is applied and is made of natural ingredients. (Check the ingredients if you have allergies or sensitivities.)

The candle wax is soft enough that you could scoop it out with your finger or a utensil without lighting the candle. It would be hard to spread around, but you could do it. Once lit, the wax melts quickly. (The recommendation to blow out the candle before using the wax presents the conundrum that you either need another candle lit or a light on.) Since the wax is very runny, I was afraid to pour it directly onto my boyfriend because it would likely run right off his back and onto the bedding. Therefore, I opted to pour it into my hand first for better control, rub my hands together and then spread it on his body. It remains oily or greasy feeling for sometime and you've gotta give a good massage to thoroughly work it into the skin.

Although this is a candle made of natural ingredients, it is not recommended that you ingest it. I suppose in the heat of the moment you might kiss somewhere you previously massaged, but I didn't, and can't report on the taste.

The scent of the sugar water and absinthe candle is very light and did not give me a headache like most candles. It was a neutral scent so my boyfriend did not complain that he was going to smell too girly. I noticed the scent faded during the night as we slept, but the next day I could still faintly smell it on both of us as well as the bedding.

This candle is not cheap, and I worried that I would spend the money and either not like the scent or have an allergic reaction to the massage oil because I am super sensitive. However, I was pleasantly surprised that although it is a small candle, between my boyfriend and I, we used so little oil that it will get used quite a lot before running out. I also had no allergy problems or headache issues.

The packaging is suitable for gift-giving. The candle comes with a sticker-like cover over the top that left residue on one side of the porcelain that I had to scrub off. Additionally, in spite of the cover, the candle wax had leaked onto the side of the candle and made it slick so I almost dropped it the first time I removed it from the package. The box is sturdy and I put the candle back inside it for storage.

If you look at the picture, the porcelain candle holder has a spout on one side. Frankly, it's hard to find the right side of it to use in a dark room, but the intent is that you will use that side to pour the massage oil. Since the oil is runny, no matter what side you use some of it will probably run down the side so if you have nice furniture you may want to place it on a coaster or paper plate just in case.
