Great idea, but could use some finesse.
The Toibocks is a great purchase for people who want something elegant and secure to store their toys. My only problem was slight damage to the finish. I have decided from what I have seen with this product, that I will definately be purchasing the ToiTissue which is the sister product to the Toibocks. We really are enjoying this product and I am sure it will give us years of usage.Published: October 1, 2011
Pros:
Beautiful interior, great locking mechanism.
Cons:
The finish needs finishing!
I have been waiting and saving up to get my Toibocks like a school kid would save up money for a bike on his paper route. I have wanted one of these since the first time I saw one, just to give you an idea of how excited about this product I have been. When I finally got up the money to get one, I ordered it right away. Unfortunately, my experience with the product did leave a bit to be desired.
The Toibocks is shipped in a regular cardboard box. The box the toy comes in has a picture of the product, as well as the company's logo and some basic information. The Toibocks arrived wrapped in plastic and surrounded with molded foam to prevent shipping damage. The documents and instructions that come with the Toibocks are shipped in a plastic envelope also protecting them from shipping damage. Rubber stick on feet are included with the box to prevent the box from moving around on slippery surfaces.
I carefully took the box out of its wrapping, set it down on our bed and applied the rubber feet. As I turned the box to apply the feet, I started to see defects on the Toibocks that can be best described as being manufacturing defects. It looked as if they had used wood stain or magic marker to try and pass the product off as perfect. I found several places that nails or fasteners had been used, where it looked as if somebody had poorly attempted to cover up the nails also with finish. I also found several light scratches on the top and back of the box.
When I opened the box I was pleased at how nice the Toibocks emblem looked. The emblem is a metal medallion that is located on the inside of the upper box lid. I enjoyed how nice the felt lining of the tray and lid was made. The lining, which is made of felt, is burgundy in color and soft to the touch. I then used the included instructions (which I suggest you read first) to open the box and found the mechanism to be very easy to operate and very well made. I can't tell you how the lock works, but trust me, it's pretty cool.
When I removed the tray, I was yet again confronted with poor craftsmanship. The tray had several areas where excess stain or a magic marker repair had taken place. I also found very slight, but clearly visible damage to the locking mechanism on the tray side of the lock. The damage looked as if the lock had either been loose enough during shipping to scratch or impact the wood slightly, which may have caused the wood to lose its finishing. I found that the compartment was finished beautifully with burgundy felt, just as the upper tray had been. I didn't find any further flaws at all with the secret compartment's construction or detail.
One of the Toibocks major downfalls for us is space. It has a length of 11 inches and a width of 7 Inches. It sits with a height of 6 1/4 inches with a weight of 5lbs. It is made of wood, metal and felt cloth. For easy figuring, think of something slightly smaller than the size of a mans size 12 shoe box. My major problem was that we do have toys that unfortunately will not fit into the Toibocks. My wife has a Jackrabbit and the toy is just slightly too big to fit, which is a bit of a disappointment because we were hoping to keep all of our toys in one place. I figured (and this is my fault for not checking sizes) that the Toibocks would be big enough to fit the Jackrabbit, since it is one of the most popular and spoken about female toys on the market. Once again, Eden has sizes listed on their site below the product. Use the measurements!
Even with all of the downsides I have seen with our Toibocks, I do have to say that I absolutely love the box and I will without a doubt be buying it's sister product the ToiTissue for my side of the bed. What really disappointed me was the damage on the product. I am not one to send a product back, so I probably will just take it down to my garage and repair the damage myself. My problem is that I shouldn't have to repair a product that is brand new. Since the shipping box arrived undamaged and Eden does not open the products while at the warehouse, I can't help but to think the product was shipped damaged from the company.

Experience
Lets put it this way; I absolutely love anything with secret compartments, so this box scored very high for me right away. My wife and I have been collecting sex toys for a while now and since we do have three younger children, we have been asking ourselves the question of "What do we do now that we have lots of toys but no place to put them?" I was looking online and came across the Toibocks line of storage accessories and I decided right then and there that we just had to have one. Honestly, if it wasn't for the issues with the finish on the box, I would be ecstatic about my purchase. I mean, it's not going to prevent us from buying other products from the company, but I just hope we don't have the same problem when we purchase the next product.
Follow-up commentary
8 days after original review
Since my review I have really noticed the scratches less and less. I think I have really come to love the Toibocks even with all of the things that had displeased me initally. We have several other boxes on our dresser that we purchased from the now defunct Bombay Company that the Toibocks looks great sitting with. It is very difficult to figure out which box is the Toibocks and which box has the secret compartment. I love how the product looks and I absolutely love how the product works. As I had said in the review, I cannot wait to get my hands on Toitissue to complete my collection. I do wish the product was bigger and could hold more but we use the Toibocks to store only our top end toys. We actually found ourselves throwing out toys we didnt use anymore because of what didnt fit and found that the majority of the collection now fits within the Toibocks. As far as the physical damage on the box, as I said earlier I am noticing the slight damage less and less and finding more reasons to love the product as time goes on. I still like it and I am pretty sure I will be back for more.

What Kind of Wood Is The ToiBocks Made of?
-
I'm wondering if the type of wood is what makes it valuable. Does anyone know what kind of wood it's made of?

ToiBocks is the only discreet storage designed specifically for novelties, that you can keep on the nightstand, dresser, or desk and it will not look out of place.
Due to variations in humidity and temperature throughout the world, and the small lock mechanism, ToiBocks is manufactured using MDF. We tried many different kinds of actual wood to create ToiBocks (over 3 years of R/D) and found the humidity/temperature of real wood made it constrict/contract and interfered with the effectiveness of the lock mechanism.
The design and function of the box are what increased the manufacturing costs, leading to the higher price.
All my best,

What do you guys think of this new company? I think while they are expense, it is an awesome idea. According to a video I watched, the owner said they have 9 products coming out by the end of the year! I am very interested to see what all of them are as only two (the original ToiBocks, and the ToiTissue). I think the pieces are gorgeous and seem like an awesome idea for people with lots of guest or children.
The ToiBocks locks via magnetic key, so even if someone suspected it had a compartment in the bottom, they wouldn't be able to get into it unless they had one and knew they worked (and had a key). While it wouldn't hide very many toys, it would be great for keeping a few favorites easily accessed. I've been looking at more storage options lately, and it's been hard trying to decide what I want to get! At least now I know, even if they are out of my price range at the moment. I definitely want the ToiTissue for condoms, and I want the ToiBocks for my favorites on my dresser. I am really hoping they make something a little larger too, though I feel faint when I think how expensive larger pieces would be. No doubt these are high end and absolutely gorgeous.

They're nice- but completely not my style. I don't care for any wood finishes with my furniture. They'd be totally out of place. Like Backseat- I need large storage. Any really small toys I have that would fit in those I just keep in my nightstand.
They're just awfully expensive, neat, but pricey.

Thank you for viewing The original toibocks – storage container review page!

Thank you all so much for your comments. Sorry it took me so long to find this review but I'm glad you're ultimately happy with the product.
The ToiBocks was manufactured with MDF not because it's cheaper, but because real wood contracts and expands with temperature and humidity and as you can see by looking inside, the lock itself is just a few mm wide. So in Arizona the box would work right but in Hawaii it might not open. Hope that makes sense.
The process for veneering a ToiBocks involves several coatings on the veneer. So they do one coat, let it dry, and then repeat. It's quite time consuming. Quality control is done by people. We tell the people, if the damage to the finish is minor, correct it with a furniture marker, if it's major, reject the box. All I can say is that apparently the inspector's perception of your particular box was that the repairs would be difficult to notice and the box functioned perfectly, so they passed it.
I've had my same ToiBocks on my nightstand for four years now. I keep things on top of it, am in and out of it regularly and it still looks exactly like it did the day I put it out (except for dust ). I truly hope your experience going forward is similar to the joy you're having with it now.
All my best,
Dawn
Thank you for the review. I've been wanting one of these for a while. But, after hearing about the defects and how I already wish it was a wee bit larger... I might stay away from it.
Thanks for the review. I'm sorry it isn't as nice as in the pictures, but it may still be worth it for me.
