Joy jelly - water based lube by Doc Johnson - review by Angelica

This is a pretty straightforward product. It is a great aid to oral sex or as an incentive to practice oral on a toy. It can be used on male or female partners (or anyone in between) provided that they are not allergic to, or sensitive to, any of the ingredients contained in the product. Joy Jelly tastes so good I could even see using it on a partners nipples as means of foreplay. The lube is also thick enough to act as a lubricant as well, but it primarily shines as a flavored aid to oral.

The ingredient list on Joy Jelly is as follows:
Water, Glycerin, Hydroxyethycellulose, Flavor(Aroma), Sucralose, Diazolidinyl Urea, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. May Contain: Caramel, Red 40, Yellow 6.

If you are sensitive to glycerin and sucralose, you may need to pass on this product. There are no parabens in this formula, which is worth noting. Being a waterbased lube, this is not suitable for use in water as it will just dissolve.

Contrary to the product's name, this is not as thick as a jelly. It is much thinner than say, the original KY Jelly, and it instead reminds me of a slightly thinner gel icing. The product in general stays where you put it and is not very messy. It is very easy to squeeze out of the bottle and put where you want it. Even though it is a flavored lube, it is not sticky. It is slick, though probably not the best suited for activities other than oral.

Before opening the plastic shrink-wrap on this bottle I could smell the watermelon. I would say it is a pretty strong aroma and to me it is very pleasant. The product tastes much like it smells and reminds me of watermelon flavored bubble gum. It is not realistic meaning that it does not taste like you are eating a piece of watermelon but it is very pleasant and mouth watering. It is sweet without being overpoweringly or cloyingly so. It is a very candy like taste, so if you are looking for something that is more of a realistic flavor this might not be the flavored lube for you. There is not a noticeable aftertaste with this lube, even with the addition of sucralose in the formula.

Although the taste and texture of Joy Jelly absolutely rock, the product needs frequent reapplication to maintain the flavor. The flavor seems to disappear after about 30 seconds of sucking/licking. It is a product designed for oral so it is understandable that it won't stay on forever. This could get annoying during any extended oral sessions.

Joy Jelly is a water based lubricant and is compatible with any toy or condom. It cleans up well with water (that is if you don't lick it all up first) and does not leave any sticky residue. Though it is compatible with any condom or toy, it is not compatible with any partner you might have. Some ingredients on this list have been known to give some women issues with infections and some people do not like sucralose in their products, so something to think about and talk to your partner about if you want to purchase or use this product.

Joy Jelly arrives as pictured shrink-wrapped for your safety. There is no external box or frills to this product. The bottle is made of a squeezable plastic and the cap is slightly more rigid. The cap removes and you have the applicator. It is a plastic cap, which feels cheap, with a spout you pull up with your finger. Even though this part of the product feels cheap, it works well. The spout combined with the squeezable plastic bottle ensures that you can dispense how much of the product you want at a time. The spout closes and the product is too thick to leak through.

Personally, I have only had experience with one flavored lube ever and I hated it. I can't remember what product it was but it tasted terrible and had an even worse aftertaste. I was hesitant to receive this item as a review, but figured I would give it a shot. I am really glad I did. Joy Jelly, though it has a name that makes me chuckle, really surprised me. It tastes so good that after receiving it, I would just put it on my finger and lick it off. It tastes so candy like to me that I just can't help myself. Thankfully, I know that I am not sensitive to any of the ingredients in this product so it is a keeper in my toy box for sure.
