An Ode to Maximus
If you're looking for an anal lube that will work in a lot of different situations, buy Maximus. I haven't found anything better for it. If you're looking for a general purpose lube, or for something for a more specific kind of experience, you might shop around, but Maximus is a great place to start.Published: April 16, 2011
Pros:
Safe with most materials, doesn't smell, doesn't turn sticky, lasts a long, long time
Cons:
Does contain parabens. Doesn't taste awesome.
For a long time I used another water-based lube (which Eden Fantasys doesn't sell) which the seller insisted was long lasting and perfect for anal play. I found that I needed to use a ton and that it dried up within minutes. I really felt like anal sex was simply destined to be a frustrating and awkward experience for me. Especially when I was first experimenting with it with my partner, the last thing I wanted was to have to say "Ah! Stop. I'm all dried up." Finally I discovered Maximus and there's been no looking back. It makes me forget that my butt doesn't lubricate itself. Looking through the other nearly 200 reviews, there's not much to be said about Maximus that hasn't already been said by other contributors. So, instead, I submit to you, this sonnet.
I like to have things in my derriere,
Some long, some big and wide, some curved, some knobbed.
But as things stand it's rather dry in there.
Oh penetration! Will I thus be robbed?
Some oil perhaps, to make my bottom slick?
It's cheap, and slides and holds up well enough.
Yet no protection may make someone sick,
And condoms would not hold up to such stuff.
Then silicon? I'd only need a tad,
Enduring through my most tempestuous joys.
And silkier elixirs can't be had.
Alas, it would not play well with my toys.
Oh Maximus! You safely lubricate
Sans smell or tack--for anal, damn, you're great!
It's not my favorite lube to use for vaginal, and it definitely falls short as a jerk-off lube, but I really couldn't ask for more than Maximus provides in the way of anal. I also really like the fact that it comes in a rather unprovocative container with a pump. Aside from going out of their way to make it look like something it's not, Maximus couldn't have really made the bottle look more innocuous.

Experience
It may be hard to believe if you've used other water-based lubes, but when they say it doesn't turn sticky, they really mean it doesn't. I took a dollop and rubbed it into one of my hands. After a long amount of rubbing, it finally dried up. And behold! No trace of it remained. There is no tangible difference between my clean hand and the hand I rubbed it into. No stickiness, no stiffness, no smell, nothing.

I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?

I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

Maximus is my go-to lube. I have very sensitive skin and have never had a problem with it.

Is Maximus as Great as The Reviews Say?

Two negative things I've seen written are that it has a bitter aftertaste and it does peel off, dry, and need to be washed off.
Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.
I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me. -
This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

It is slightly bitter but not bothersome. It is thicker and also works very well for anal. I never feel the need to wash it off unless I overdue in the heat of passion.

Does Maximus come in any other size bottles? I feel like 8 oz. would be a lot for me to use before it goes bad. Also, it seems like a big bottle to store somewhere discrete.

It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5
I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad -
