BEST LUBE EVER
I can't say enough good things about this product. I've tried recommending it to die-hard fans of other lubes: Some of them bit, some didn't, but the ones that did are grateful and I have only the experts in Austin to thank for turning me on to such an awesome product!Published: January 31, 2012
Pros:
glycerine-free, wet, non-sticky, fragrance-free, pump bottle for ease of use
Cons:
Loaded with parabens, in case you're allergic.
I've been using Liquid Silk for four years now and have cited it in almost every toy review I've composed here and elsewhere. It's my favorite lube, ever.
I'm not terribly prone to yeast, but as I get older and more aware of what chemicals, additives and miscellaneous ingredients affect my body in all ways, I tend to steer clear of products whose composition may instigate something I've never experienced, thus my choice of Liquid Silk as my primary lube. Secondarily, I use Grape Seed Oil (yes, like you cook with!), but it spoils easily and can be messy. Liquid Silk comes in a convenient pump bottle and melds with my body and (so far) my partners' bodies with ease and comfort.
WARNING: I know that parabens can be highly allergenic for some people, so it should be said that Liquid Silk is loaded with them. Coming from a background in cosmetics, I can say that I understand why they're part of the makeup of this product. They are non-perishable preservatives, as well as bactericides and fungicides. Being synthetic and containing a number of molecular components identical to citrus fruits, they can trigger allergies in a number of users. Please keep this in mind when shopping for personal lubricant.
That aside, glycerin-free is a huge seller for me. Why? Because while glycerin helps retain moisture during cleansing and while helping hydrate additionally during rinsing (in the course of the average bath/shower), it is a sugar and often introduces yeast into moist areas that might not otherwise be vulnerable. Since I know this about myself, I quickly learned (years ago -- yikes!) that drug-store lubes weren't for me, hence the resort to GSO. When I found myself not able to travel in 2007 with an unlabeled bottle of GSO that I sadly had to leave with customs, I found an "adult novelty shop" in my destination city that recommended LS; since I decided to purchase a toy, the clerk gave me a complimentary travel-sized bottle of Liquid Silk. I can say, in all honesty: it was the best retail give-away in memory.
A little bit goes a long way!!! Vaginal, anal, partner and/or solo, Liquid Silk has never let me down. It stays wet, it doesn't get sticky and yeast is never a problem. The reviews that declare it to have a bitter taste (in the event of oral) are correct, but it's so faint that I need only not think of it (or pop an Altoid before going down) to ward off that downside.
I love Liquid Silk!!!

no good?

i get the impression that this is crap......

Liquid Silk's not a bad lube, but "crap" or "awesome" depends a lot on what you want out of your lube. Like, do you want one for anal play or vaginal? For shower play? Are you a stickler for healthy ingredients?

It wasn't bad, but Alan and Michele have a point. What are you trying to get out of the lube?

Liquid Silk and Silicone Toys
-
So, while looking through highly rated water based lubes, I came across Liquid Silk. Aside from the bitter taste, no one seems to have any complaints.
However, I noticed that the fourth ingredient is Dimethicone - and I was wondering what everyone's experience with this and silicone sex toys was? Is the silicone in Liquid Silk a small enough portion that it has no effect on toys, or is it generally not recommended for that type of play?
Or does the bonding potential of silicone lubes have more to do with the type/quality of silicone than anything else? -
That's a really good question because Dimethicone is a silicone.
Basically it should be ok to use as long as the toy is made of medical grade silicone. There should, in theory, be no reaction. I, personally, wouldn't want to test that out on my own toys though. You can do a patch test on a small part of the toy. The reaction should be immediate if there is going to be one.
Anyone else know about this? -
I have had liquid silk react to a silicone toy. Which sucks because I love it. :(
