Better than KY, not as good as Silicone but highly universal.

An above average lube that can be used for any toy for use vaginally or anally. A great lube for anyone looking to own one lube for all of their needs.
Published: February 27, 2010
Pros:
Compatible with all toys, above average performance for water based lube.
Cons:
Gets sticky after a while.

useful review
Prior to using ID Glide, I had very little experience with lube. Prior to using this product, I used plain KY lube and some Astroglide. I picked up the 9.5 oz bottle when I bought my first toy. I wanted a lube that was fairly universal which could be used on any toy and either vaginally for use with my partner or anally for either of us.

I have never used a silicone lube, which I have heard performs better, but since most of my toys are silicone, those lubes really aren't an option.

ID Glides ingredients are fairly standard for water based lubes: purified water glycerin propylene glycol cellulose polymer polyethylene oxide sodium benzoate methyl paraben carbomer 981 tetrahydroxypropyl ethylenediamine diazolidynl urea EDTA.

Overall, I have come to like this lube better than the mass market options as it works in all sorts of cases. I do wish it were a bit thicker because it has a tendency to be runny at times. It performs well in all situations, but like all water based lubes, it dries up and become sticky. However, I have found that this lube performs pretty well for a water based lube in the shower and even when submerged for a short amount of time. It does rinse off with water which is also very convenient. It comes in many different sizes from 2 oz all the way to 35.5 oz with a pump top.

Once the bottle runs out, I do think I will pick up another bottle of this stuff. I would rank it as above average, but not excellent given its few downfalls. I believe there are also a few other ID brand water based lubes with different features, such as warming as well, which could add an extra perk to this product.
Follow-up commentary
This lube has been ol' reliable for me for about 6 months. It took me a while to make it through the bottle. I think I will be buying another bottle of this stuff once my current bottle is empty.

I will say that I used this lube for anal play quite a bit, and now that I have found Anal Lube, I definitely have found a replacement for this lube when playing anally. However, for use during sex or for masturbators or if my girlfriend needs lube for a toy for vaginal use, this has become the go to.

Not bad, not amazing, worth keeping around. Water based so it is compatible with all toys. Definitely all positives!

Thanks for the review! I still have mixed feelings about this one, but I will definitely be trying that Anal Lube you posted in your follow up

  • I received a sample and want to make sure it's the real thing before writing a review.
    • I got this sample with a wholesale order:

Is this the one EF is selling in larger bottles, so can I review it?
    • It looks the same to me. If you're going to review it, do note that you have a smaller sample size tho.

I would mention that. It got pretty good ratings but it's like the worst thing I ever tried maybe 2/5. So not sure if it's just my personal preference or just plain different. Ingredients looks like the same tho. I read your durex warming review! I like that lube and use it to the day. This is far worse than that in terms of smell and performance. I got a premium silicone lube recently and I can finally understand why people gave 2/5 to the durex warming :) But I like it anyway, it's different. But made me realize what tacky really means and now I got a better picture.

  • Why is this product not sold in the same types of containers?
    • I am wondering why the different weights are sold in different containers. The 17.5 oz. container looks the best, but costs more. The 4 oz bottle looks weird, and I don't like it. They should be sold in same-looking containers. Any comments? Agreements?

I'd noticed that, too, and I think it's a bit odd. I think it'd be much better if they made them all the same as you suggested. I guess they figure they're just giving people a choice in the way the lube is disposed?

The Gun Oil lube bottles look pretty much the same except for size or if it has a pump. Personally it doesn't bother me what the bottle looks like. Some I am sure are easier to conceal in a pocket or purse for the purpose of travel. Others do to their size like the one I baught being 35 oz. looks like a shampoo bottle and you could probably have out in the open as long as someone didn't take to close a look at it. I am sure they had their reasons for making the bottles the way they did.
